Why do we really have awards (Turtledove Award) in his name?
He doesn't seem like much to me; not bad but not really good either.
I read some of his more recent stories because I've been hearing good stuff about him, and it's not impressive imo.

I agree. I read about through the first few sentences of the summary (a little bit tl:dr I guess but mostly just turned off by it), scrolled down, saw your post, and it sums it up perfectly.
One thing to change? I'd make sure the Big Bang doesn't happen.
If I can't do that I would kill Karl Marx. Nothing wrong against what he says, but rather the way some people take it (North Korea, Mao, Stalin)
