  1. Jour J - French AH Comics collection

I love the general concept and art of Jour J, but some of the plot lines seem like they were written after the authors read a bunch of popular history books with every page laced with LSD.
  2. Popular misconceptions about 19th century History

A few of my “favorites” - The American civil war was very closely fought and could have gone either way - France was always destined play second fiddle to Britain and/or Germany in Europe - Japan never became a colony due to its powerul WARRIOR SPIRIT
  3. Jour J - French AH Comics collection

I started reading "La Ballade des Pendus" because I'm a sucker for anything with Joan of Arc in it. It's slow going with my poor French, as I have to constantly look words up, figure out sentence structure etc. I found that reading it on a tablet significantly speeds up the translation process...
  4. Jour J - French AH Comics collection

Okay, that's it, I'm learning French.
  5. Jour J - French AH Comics collection

I get the impression that sometimes the 'Jour J' writers just want to provoke. There's really no good reason for using Hitler and Goering, they seem like very generic characters, but that wouldn't make poeple go 'WOW, that's so radical!" Still, the fact that something liek an alternate history...
  6. Jour J - French AH Comics collection

Ah, that's too bad. Thanks anyways.
  7. Jour J - French AH Comics collection

I really appreciate these write-ups. It's hard to find info on the series that's not in french - I did study a bit of french years ago, but it's extremely hard for me to read anything more complicated than a resturant menu! So having someone do a quick summary in english really goes a long way...
  8. Media set in a "No WWII" TL?

'Kiki's Delivery Service', perhaps Studio Ghibli's most harmless film, is supposedly set in a world with no World War I or II. It's not really a realistic movie of course, the idealized early 20th century Europe is beautiful however.
  9. Ottomans take Vienna in 1683

Could Franco-Ottoman hegemony over Europe be a result of the Ottomans taking Vienna?
  10. Plausibility check: could an European become emperor of China

Well the British monarch was emperor/empress of India by virtue of the Brits being in charge, I don't see why a European colonial power might not grab China as a puppet and claim the title of Emperor for their monarch. German China would be fun - not that the other powers would ever let the...
  11. Fav small nation in history that had a chance for greatness but didnt

The white aristocracy had no wish to soil their ranks with plebs.
  12. Fav small nation in history that had a chance for greatness but didnt

For a broader kind of 'nation' I've always had a soft spot for the cathars. The divergent sects of Christianity really did draw a short straw in general, a timeline where religious pluralism a la Hinduist tradition becomes the norm in Europe would be interesting.
  13. America Discovered by Eruopeans Through Bering Strait

This thread propose two questions: 1. How might knowledge the Siberian-Alaskan connection between the Eurasian and American continents be wide spread in Europe before 1492? 2. How would European exploration using this connection as primary route unfold? Any and all feedback appreciated. If...
  14. DBWI: Which other countries could pull a Radama modernization?

That's an interesting question. I've seen a lot of discussion along those lines. Some argue for China, having the Qing abolished or strengthened and get a huge industrial capacity going. I don't give my for that theory myself. Even assuming the chaos of civil war stopped how would you...
  15. WI American Revolution suppressed by Indian Indians?

How about we have a Maratha civil war take place, with the French and Mysore jockying for influence through intervention. Perhaps a French/Mysore/Maratha three-way free-for-all war takes place? The British East India Company decides to sit the conflict out and slowly extending their influence...
