  1. AHC: Parliamentary America

It's been a very very long time since I read this, but I believe a parliamentary system (President elected by congress) was in fact the preferred choice of most delegates to the constitutional convention, and that the electoral college and all that has followed came about after its minority...
  2. AHC: Abolish the Electoral College

Would be easier to just have it not adopted. I'm really reaching back years and years trying to remember this one, so I could be entirely wrong, but wasn't the electoral college an unpopular idea at the constitutional convention, most delegates preferring a President elected by congress...
  3. AHC: The Monarchical Government Goes Extinct

What about a TL when Edward VIII keeps the British crown? Could hammer the monarchy come WWII and perhaps generate public sentiment for a republic. Or for that matter, I seem to recall that protecting public support for the monarchy was a major propaganda goal in WWI (since the royal family...
  4. Hitler without the mustache?

in TTL Charlie Chaplin costumes are much more popular.
  5. WI: Surviving Isaurian dynasty?

If my current game of CKII (in which I'm playing in India, and thus uninvolved in such things) is any indication, a surviving Isaurian dynasty dominates Southern italy, keeps the West Med islands, and pretty much takes over both sides of the entire Danube Basin.
  6. WI: Kennedy Assassination Really Perpetuated by the CIA

It was the Cigarette Smoking Man. Obviously.
  7. AHC/WI: Kurds with a nation

Have Ataturk die of an infected Monkey Bite in 1919 or so. Might turn out well for the Kurds eventually.
  8. WI/AHC: Greeks respond to Greek genocide

You missed such a great chance to say "Minor Asia Minor"! But otherwise, that all sounds pretty on point.
  9. Challenge: Export Kemal Atatürks idear of secular Islamic democracy to the wider M.E?

As noted above, Ataturk as pioneering Liberal Democrat exists only in the imagination of today's secular Turks, and their friends abroad. OTL Ataturk was a Nationalist first, a Secularist second and chiefly because he thought Turkey needed to be Secular to survive, and a liberal democrat not at all.
  10. WI: Zyuganov wins in '96?

I'm sure he'd try to buttress the state's position in the economy, but it's hard to see exactly what he could do there. The oligarchs have already walked away with so much of the economy at this point, and the state got so little in return that its resources are very limited. If he can't fix the...
  11. Christian Lebanon?

Well outside my expertise here... But I recall hearing several times that part of the reason for the decline in the Christian share of the population was Lebanon's substantial emigration over the later 19th and 20th centuries, which was disproportionately Christian. Any way you could generate...
  12. Britain joins the USA in 1970....

Hawaii had a King, who was deposed decades before Hawaii became a state. It now has a failed congressional candidate who a few Native Hawaiians sometimes humor by calling King.
  13. Far more Russians needed in this world

This reminded me of something I read forever ago... Took me awhile to track it down, but here it is
  14. DBWI: Riots in Germania

I've got a lot of family in Europe, mostly Norway and what remains of the Netherlands, so it's been stressful lately, to say the least... My grandfather finally got in touch with his sister back in Kristiansund, she's shaken but excited, she's lived under the Nazi boot since she was a girl...
  15. For the Dream of the Dead Empire: A Post-Roman TL

Only the deceased Clovis and Childeric are concrete historical personalities unfortunately. Chroniclers of the time did not see fit to remember the siblings, cousins, wives, second sons, friends, etc... That a fuller narrative requires. I feel confident in the characters as created...
