  1. DC taken early in Civil War.

We do need more info. I was just working with what was on hand. Didn't think expansion was likely, but with politicians you can never be too sure what they will do. It would be illogical though, so probably wouldn't happen since it would be a waste of time and paper. So DC could very well...
  2. The Margin of Prediction

I agree with Norman and Grey here. Basically anything right after the POD cannot be accurately predicted and by 10 years later, you are basically just making stuff up. The difference between these TLs and the ones in ASB is that here the authors of TL attempt to make a prediction that seems...
  3. Reconquest of Constantinople in the 19th Century

Back to topic, looking forward to Felix Austria. A Habsburg Spain in 1870 will be interesting. Might even avoid giving a trigger for the Franco-Prussian War (which could very well start for other reasons later on in time). Napolean Bonaparte II? I thought he died young. Can't really see Spain...
  4. Reconquest of Constantinople in the 19th Century

Okay, well nicely clarified. Now, how about you and Rafi agree to disagree, leave the truce in place (before someone gets kicked) and let's continue with the new PODs started, yeah? It is a nice discussion after all (aside from the arguments over the subject we are not supposed to speak about)...
  5. DC taken early in Civil War.

It is, isn't it? Enfranchise the citizens in DC and perhaps after the war (if the Union wins as is likely with a long war) the Federal government would decide to give DC the vote. It probably wouldn't change much in terms of Presidential elections from the 1860s onwards, but it might spur some...
  6. 1846: Oregon War

I never said that Europe and America were not and still are not. And it is true that Britain's government changed over time (I never denied that). And it is good to see that you acknowledge that race isn't the only reason you go to war. Any 10th grade history student could also tell you that...
  7. 1972: Much bigger Derry massacre

Hmmm...PODs being constantly recycled. I did a TL about this on the Old Board, you can check for it (can't remember what the title of the thread was, mark you, it was so long ago), but here is a link to the finished product on the Changing the Times website (well, at least the internet archive...
  8. WI: No Polish Unification?

Well, with a weakened Poland, effectively split into several fiefdoms, then most likely German immigration would continue for a while. But at some point the continued divisions are going to become ridiculously small and it is possible that before Poland divided itself totally out of existence...
  9. DC taken early in Civil War.

Well, if DC was taken, what would happen to it? How would it be governed? It was created by the cession of 100 sq. miles of land from Maryland (the current area) and Virginia (about a third of the territory south of the Potomac) and it was a southern city, so might the South try to arrange a...
  10. an accurate map to show political systesm

True, but that (calling a dog a cat) is from a third person perspective, in this case it is the party calling itself so and actually (more or less) having been so in the recent past. Granted the National Socialists were more fascist than socialists, but then they were a rather exceptional case...
  11. Reconquest of Constantinople in the 19th Century

earlier post: last post: Well, Pasha, whilst I am not overly interested in the little low level, mostly now resolved feud (or whatever you want to call it) between yourself and Redbeard, or yourself and Knight, I would like to point out that what you say above, doesn't agree in any way...
  12. an accurate map to show political systesm

As for China, though many (or just a vocal few) have argued for it not to be coloured communist red, the fact is that it is still the Chinese Communist Party which runs the show. This map is to show political systems, correct? Not necessarily economic. So putting a fascist symbol on China (which...
  13. an accurate map to show political systesm

With regards to constitutional monarchies, why not just put the symbol for the monarchies (the crown) in the states which are democratic (multi-party or otherwise) or rather in the states which are not traditional monarchies? No need to keep putting in new colours.
  14. A Loose Bandage - McKinley Lives!

Yep, excellent continuation. keep it up. By the way, now that McKinley is alive, what will he try to do about the Isle of Pines (which was declared to be disputed and was apparently to resolved later by the Platt Amendment to the Cuban Constitution)? Might he try to keep it as a territory? Leave...
  15. Reconquest of Constantinople in the 19th Century

Thanks. But wouldn't this mean that whilst the Greeks may refer to themselves as "Romaioi", their neighbours and the rest of Europe may just call them "Greeks"? Hmm...Muntenia...interesting. odd. How on earth did that name arise?
