I take intercepts over the Channel preferable to ones where British targets are threatened, which allowing them to cross does. I also doubt FC would actually manage to reach them actually assembling (they might), but it's highly likely, IMO, FC would be able to intercept before LW fighters...

At least some of the reduction in BdU effectiveness has to be in reduced crew quality. The early war crews had years in service. Also, I think you underestimate the influence of the Type XXI: it effectively obsoleted every ASW weap the Allies were fielding, except (perhaps) radar-equipped...
