  1. A Bigger RAF Battle of Britain Win

I take intercepts over the Channel preferable to ones where British targets are threatened, which allowing them to cross does. I also doubt FC would actually manage to reach them actually assembling (they might), but it's highly likely, IMO, FC would be able to intercept before LW fighters...
  2. Professor Zyzzyva's Canadian History 101

 It's just like NWT, but with oil & Americans?
  3. Why I really came here. Please help. Part 2

So, if somebody, anybody, has thoughts on old threads, we should a) not start new threads, since somebody will complain & b) not revive old ones? Which amounts to "shut the hell up about it", doesn't it?
  4. AH Challenge: Ending WW2 by October 1944

That's perfectly possible with just a little work. Me too! Me too!;)
  5. 1941: Hitler Condemns Pearl Harbor Attack

Wait, now. This presumes a) Winston accepts, which is ASB, IMO & b) Japan doesn't attack British colonies in Asia, which is unlikely at best. So aid to Britain still happens. It's not direct aid against Germany, but it's aid. And if FDR doesn't drop Britain like a hot rock, what do you suppose...
  6. WI: Gallipoli Naval Attack Succeeded?

You appear to be the only one who doesn't mind.... Some say "don't start new threads on old subjects", then some say "don't resurrect old ones"...:confused: Believe it or not, the necro got me kicked over complaints. I really, really don't get it. If someone (not...
  7. The History of the Malaya Campaign

In light of the Army General Board's disbelief in the need for heavier tank guns, I have real doubts anything remotely resembling the mooted Thomas would ever appear... (BTW, who's it named for?)
  8. Professor Zyzzyva's Canadian History 101

Hurtig's Canadian Encyclopedia (v3, p.1917) says "by 1583...settlement had developed on the central and eastern sections of the N side of the harbour."
  9. The possible role of computers in WWI

WW1-era crypto (no cypher machines) didn't desperately need computers to break it. There are 2 areas that occur to me: better AA (pretty haphazard WW1), which makes improved a/c possible, in response; & better sub torpedo firecontrol ("Gen 0.5" TDC, equal to, if not better than, the sliderules...
  10. Can it Carry Bombs?

Except U-103 wasn't a Type XXI. Picture Nautilus (SSN-571, not SS-168) attacking a convoy: run in submerged, get past the escorts & into the convoy columns (which even Type VIIs were capable of), shoot & scoot, then come back later (after the escorts can't find you) & do it again. Morton wiped...
  11. Can it Carry Bombs?

Why don't they go via Suez, Alex, & Marseilles/Toulon? Too sensible?
  12. Can it Carry Bombs?

Well... "optimistically estimate three torpedoes per ships sunk"? No. It's perfectly possible to sink a freighter with one fish. And a Type 21 could get so close (not having to deal with escorts until very close in), it could almost guarantee a hit. So, with 23 fish, 12 or more ships/patrol...
  13. Can it Carry Bombs?

At least some of the reduction in BdU effectiveness has to be in reduced crew quality. The early war crews had years in service. Also, I think you underestimate the influence of the Type XXI: it effectively obsoleted every ASW weap the Allies were fielding, except (perhaps) radar-equipped...
  14. Pacific War Redux

Mine, too. Very probable. Which should (I hope!) eliminate the problem OTL of putting the Luzon Strait off-limits, since the OTL SWPA/POA boundary ran right through it. Not developed even yet AFAIK, tho there were recognition signals arranged. These didn't work too well: the one case I...
  15. Pacific War Redux

Actually, it gets even better. Without MacArthur's mania for return to the P.I., you can take off about 6mo more (between reconquest, Iwo, & Oki), presuming Wainwright isn't as fixated on return, or FDR is more resistant to his demands. (This also butterflies the stupid Peleliu op.) Plus...
