Third World Countries/Countries who choose neither side in the Cold War
In the aftermath of the first wave of nuclear strikes these countries may fill the whole of leading superpower while the USSR and USA pick of the pieces, set the world back to a radioactive stone age to prevent any competition.

I somewhat doubt they'd be totally untouched, but remember the possibility of a nuclear winter as well as a depleted ozone layer, the entire world would suffer the consequences of a nuclear war.
Many great works of fiction have been dedicated to what the world would look like after a nuclear war, great stories like "Threads" or this own sites "Protect and Survive" have looked at the aftermath of world war 3.
However there haven't been as many, realistic, looks at how society would...
I wonder how the nation would react to having a man who was 75% native American as president, I am sure having the depression occur under his presidency wouldn't work wonders for race relations.

Could we greatly expand the size of the Soviet Union? If somehow Germany and Austria-Hungary experienced succesful communist revolutions near the end of the war, and/or, the red army is much, MUCH, more succesful you would have a larger and much more ethnically diverse Soviet Union.
