Sample of some of the topography work currently being undertaken for Aephlera. Most of the activity is on Discord now so I think it is good to come back to this thread to post an update every now and again.
Fantasy world topography! A work in progress view of Aephlera, one of the Wormhole Worlds from the Great Big Worlda Collaborative Project, and previously a standalone project of its own.
I might just work on topography stuff for Aephlera anyway since it was its own project originally and then just design some civilizations for this project. Not really sure about what sort of civilizations Aephlera will have, I might think about it while everyone comes up with ideas for the other...
How much effort are we planning to put into the Wormhole Worlds? I've made a rough tectonic map of Aephlera just now, and made a similar one for Vesperia back in its original thread. We could use these as guides to make topographic maps and then river and climate maps, but that would be a bit...
I'd be really interested to see how these worlds become incorporated into this project. I've worked on at least two of these, Aephlera I made all by myself but I never made any lore for it.
Thank you. It was a quick job and it's kind of hard to go off coastlines alone, you have to use your own imagination to think where the mountains may be, as well as the ocean trenches.
Didn't participate in the creation of the continents, but thought I would have my own go at making the plate tectonics, in case it is of any help. I have to say, plates are hard, because in reality their direction is subtly rotational as well as against or toward one another. My drawing might...
The history timeline is starting to become more interesting. Up until this point I preferred the geology component but now I want to see what happens to the empires and stuff as well.
@zesamofdepast it turned out looking really good! I'm glad I chose that time period for the map. I could suggest more dates but I might wait for others to make their own requests first.
You're using Algol's new video as a resource aren't you? Let's try 2,050 million years ago, during the Rhyacian. I like the look of the scattered archipelagos around this time. Perhaps make it in WorldA format if possible, and with labels. Colouring is up to you, I don't really mind.
Have you seen Algol's channel on YouTube? There are depictions of continental movement going as far back as 3 billion years ago and even further.
One of the Algol videos linked below. There's also another one that was uploaded just a few days back that has a 360 panorama-type mode and more detail.
