  1. Isaac's Empire 2.0

And with your map, fair sir, I would quibble ... For pray tell what might ‘Nicosia’ be in this year of our lord 1335?
  2. Isaac's Empire 2.0

Greetings and salutations from the dusty senate house of Nea Constantia, which is just beautiful in this lilac light with views over the quicksilver sea. Basileus Giorgios isn’t allowing this Dux to rest his weary old bones in comfortable retirement on this sun-burnished isle of Roman isles...
  3. Isaac's Empire 2.0

?! Looks like this thread has gone all quiet... Too busy now with real, grown-up, politics, eh BG?
  4. Isaac's Empire 2.0

Nice update, BG. When will you write a little more about the social situation of the Empire. Surely, Italy, too, particularly with an ambitious Pope there, is changing. With all those city-states, as well as rampaging militias, it emphatically is not a sleepy backwater at this time.
  5. Isaac's Empire 2.0

What about this from the original spin-off to IE 1.0? https://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showpost.php?p=2926379&postcount=72 It's relevant to just this period you've been covering, and the technical leap forward coming up in the 1300s, so maybe it could stand this time as well? Also...
  6. Ethnikoi: Tales from the world of Isaac's Empire

Questions about Germany and Scandinavia OK, I'm up to date with this spin-off thread at least. Some nice stuff about proto-Sweden, Germany, Hungary, Poland and parts further east. A couple of questions though: (1) Ares96 mentions a Cistercian monastery in his Professorial lecture (ha! Well...
  7. Ethnikoi: Tales from the world of Isaac's Empire

Good to see this I haven't read any of the content of this thread, but I gather it will be a sort of 'Children of Johan 2.0', which is great. Will try and read the detailed stuff on here in the weeks ahead, particularly Ares96's Scandinavia before the German conquest and the Norse migration...
  8. Isaac's Empire 2.0

Rangoon Raja Replying Hi, Just checking in on this for the first time in a little while by reading the last three updates. Nice work. I missed the conquest of Egypt, will try and go back and look in on that. What chapter was it? Will lurk and keep an eye on things as much as I can from...
  9. Isaac's Empire 2.0

Rightey-ho. After a long time away, the Dux rides Romeward once more. This is a nice update, as have been the recent chapters, covering the complex dynastic politics, the various ins and outs, as well as ever. So just a few short remarks at this stage: The first name. Obviously they are real...
  10. Isaac's Empire 2.0

Hi. I recognise our outline from November in what has recently been posted; it's very nice to see a lot of the details, personalities and schemes sketched in for flavour and colour - well done. :) I echo what you say, too, BG about Game of Thrones: I'm currently on Book 3 (having also seen...
  11. Isaac's Empire 2.0

Aye: whether of the Frankish or Teutonic sort, Barbarians are what I'd like to see next as well. :)
  12. Isaac's Empire 2.0

OK, so here's the view from the Golden Khersonese: First up, and since I did not comment on Chapter 12 before now, I am curious about the 3,000 Hungarians who split off from the western Tagmata and made their way back to Hungary. They are followers of the teachings of John of Florence, opponent...
  13. Isaac's Empire 2.0

Good update, BG. Always like the updates emanating from the Fertile Crescent. Almost a bit eerie in a way: what with the present/recent goings-on in OTL Syria and Gaza... Nice introduction of the offices and characters that will rise to prominence in the succeeding years. Enjoyed seeing...
  14. The Children of Johan in the New Lands, 1344-1973 - a spin off of "Isaac's Empire"

Holy German Empire 1176-1600: Internal structure & the growth of imperial authority A previously unpublished "think-piece" from the world of IE 1.0, which I wrote a couple of years ago when thinking about how the Holy German Empire developed and functioned after the Romans expelled the Germans...
  15. Isaac's Empire 2.0

Aye. How splendid! The Mega Doukaton riseth from obscurity. This reader is a happy bunny at least... :D
