Alternate History Quotes

Having done a search I could'nt find any threads for this (that were'nt several years old), so I figure I might as well start (a new) one.

Basically this thread is to post quotes from AH scenarios/Timelines either that you've made/thought of.

To start off, something from my On Again Off Again TL 'Vive la Francia';

'My dear sir, if you and by extension, your government should decide to try to take by force the territory currently under the sovereignty of the Miskito King you will bring down upon your small nation the full might of the most powerful Empire to exist since the time of Rome.'

-British Ambassador responding to the representative of the Nicaraguan government 7 months before the failed Nicaraguan attempt to conquer the Miskito Kingdom.

"I may be deaf, I may not be able to hear sounds, but Prime Minister, I can hear the masses, hear them crying for your resignation!"

Leader of the Labour Party, Gwendolen Sinclair, replying to Prime Minister Brandon Lewis' corruption and attempting to paint her as ineffective due to her deafness. This quote would lead to a huge landslide in the 2041 election and to the ultimate death of the Conservative Party as a meaningful force in British politics.
"I can hear the masses!"
is still used today by the Labour Party as a great populist slogan.

"I don't know, you have a better way to spend an Thursday afternoon?"

Assassin Matthew John Franklyn when asked why he killed President Nixon while at a campaign stop in Albany NY.

"If I die, let it be known that I died for freedom, for the country I love"
Ronald Reagan, leader of the illegal American Freedom Party, at his execution by the authorities of the United People's Republic of America in 1987

"She was deaf and dumb. Britain would have been worse off under her. I did this for the Conservative Party, and for Britain."

Assassin Richard Nordmeyer, former MP for South Oxfordshire, giving his reason for killing Prime Minister Gwen Sinclair. The Tories, now political toxic, dissolved themselves after Nordmeyer's execution for treason. The Disability-Sedition Act was passed by the new Prime Minister, making it illegal for words meaning harm to be directed towards disabled people.

"She was a brilliant Prime Minister, promising Hope and Change for the United Kingdom. Unfortunately for the world, she was cut off in her prime... Our John Kennedy."

Leader of the Opposition Michael Crockart, giving his eulogy at Prime Minister Gwen Sinclair's funeral.

"She was a woman to be respected, and to be loved. Open, friendly, welcoming, kind, all the best qualities anybody can have. But she was also a brilliant leader, with a good sense for political opportunities. She was the best Prime Minister we ever had. Better then me, at least."

Former PM Ed Miliband giving his eulogy at Sinclair's funeral.

"IT WAS THE TORIES WOT DID IT!"

A rag blaming the Tories for the death of Gwen Sinclair. Unfortunately, this sort of attitude was prevalent, even though there was no proof.

"She was a nightmare for the Tories. Even Maggie Thatcher would have went down in flames on Election Night 2041, and when Sinclair died, the Tories died with her."

Historian Bill Shearer on the Prime Minister, the "British John Kennedy" and how she transformed Britain through her landslide election and her death.

Is this from your TL or from the future? If it's the former, it seems interesting to have a Socialist deaf PM, but if it's the latter, why did you kill yourself?

"This if what the Founding Fathers fought for! This is what Ronald Reagan fought for! This is for justice. This is for peace! This, this is for FREEDOM!"
George Bush, new leader of the American Freedom Party, leading the anti-Communists in their march on Philadelphia after the execution of Ronald Reagan

"If I die, let it be known that I died for freedom, for the country I love"
Ronald Reagan, leader of the illegal American Freedom Party, at his execution by the authorities of the United People's Republic of America in 1987

Given the time period a Revolution could happen, it'd be more likely than not that Reagan would be part of the government, afterall he did when he was younger show interest in joining some Communist groups and it was'nt really until the 70's than he went right-wing.

I think she's roleplaying with herself. :p
Pretty much. Its the perfect storm for Labour TBH. Corruption, having a personal attack on the Opposition backfire, having a Tory kill the new PM...

Its a personal fantasy of mine, TBH. And yes, that includes being the new JFK, what can I say, I'm weird. :D

I have the Revolution take place during the Great Depression, and there is no USSR, so communism isn't really a big thing until the 30s. Reagan was an anti-commie as early as the forties. But I'm getting off topic here.

"Non eie unam sigla ex sum petras, ni la memoriam ex sum petras"

"Let there not remain a single one of her stones, nor the memory of her stones."

Napoleon I Astrae, King of Sericana and Casardur, pronouncing these words after the taking of Thuria, during his Taxilian Campaign. The city of Thuria was completely sacked and destroyed, its stones being carted off.

"Our empire has weathered storms like you before. We have outlasted them all, you will be no different."

‘Comrade. I knew John Maclean. John Maclean was a friend of mine. Comrade, you’re no John Maclean.’
- James Maxton to Philip Snowden, 3 February 1931

‘Don’t you dare let them put me in Westminster Abbey.’
- John Maclean’s last words

From Meadow's excellent The People's Flag.

It is always a tragedy when a leader is taken from her people in this way. It is even more a tragedy when that leader is you own grandmother. I know, many people, today and in the future, will analyze her legacy. Roberta Rodriguez will in time bear the scrutiny of history. Her time as a state representative, a state attorney general, a governor, and as president: all will be the subject of discussion. And to me, and to those who knew her, all of that is meaningless. To us, she wasn't the President. She wasn't a politician. To us, she was our grandmother. To us, she was the woman who read to us as children. The woman who cared for us, who was there for us. She was an ear for our woes, our hopes, and our triumphs. Even at the height of crisis, even when she was sleeping four hours and working twenty, she would find time for us. President Rodriguez, or abuelita, as my family and I knew her, was a woman with fierce convictions, and limitless compassion. She was a friend to all who knew her. She was a lioness for those who depended on her. She was a hero to those who needed her. And she will be missed by all of us. However, standing here, I remember what she used to tell us. 'Life is always a struggle. It's hard, it's messy, and it's complicated. But it's also precious. That struggle makes it precious. If you want rainbows, nietecito, you have to deal with the rain.' Remember President Rodriguez. Remember abuelita. And remember her challenge, to never turn your back on people who need you.

-Congressman Miguel Rodriguez (D, TX), giving the eulogy for President Roberta Rodriguez (who was also his grandmother) after her assassination in 2049.

When Ii̱soús Bontisátva was in his early twenties, he was converted by Zarmanochegas. This simple act seemed to convince him that he was destined to spread the enlightenment of the Voúdas to the people of the west. He was now a king with a mission; a mission that proved to be hugely popular with the masses. Though he consorted with prostitutes, tax collectors and Galátes, he healed the sick and wrought many marvels, witnessed by the Ioudaío̱n.
- Judean Histories, Bato of Cerethriodunum 548 EC.
