I think a solid gold background would work best myself, but a darker shade than the one you used before; blue doesn't go well with black (but don't tell Estonia I said that).

More like this then?

My other idea was to counterchange it, but I have yet to find a good way to do it in GIMP. This was all I could manage, and required a lot of workarounds that kind of bloated eagle on the inverted half. :(

reposting: anybody?

communist flag challenge with a twist: make flags for OTL and ATL communist states that deeply embraced the use of psychedelics! Bonus points for those who throw in a dash of Maoist extremism...

some states i would be particularly interested in...

Indonesia/ Nusantara/ Malesia (Indonesia plus a few surrounding countries)
Japan
Bangladesh
Sri Lanka
Iran
Oman
Kenya
Zaire
Cameroon
Peru
Mexico
Portugal

thanks in advance to anyone who takes a shot at it!

Hmmm: having the eagle on a separate layer, selecting half the background layer, switching to eagle layer, recoloring the eagle.
Not much of a workaround really in my view ;)

Anyone else think that eagle looks more like a dragon?

I didn't think so until you said so. Now I can't unsee it.

A quickie I did last night. The texture doesn't really look all that good sized up like this, but oh well.

A Socialist/Communist state within the United States in a TL I am planning.

You can't just take the symbol of the North Korean Workers' Party and slap it on what's supposed to be an American flag. Unless the United States has developed a tradition of ideogramatic calligraphy when I wasn't looking, why would anything in the US by symbolised by a Far Eastern calligraphy brush? :p

Actually, its closer to the old Labour Party symbol :p

The Korean Workers' Party is a brush, hammer, and sickle.

This one is a hammer to represent the worker, torch to represent the burning passion for freedom, and an axe to represent the fight for freedom.

Very nice despite the pastel shades.
Some Arctic or Antarctic State/alliance?

Actually, Atlantis from the Disney movie of the same name. In essence, gorgeous animation, well used back-story.

The star is the Atlantean crystal, the circles the floating stone heads of past kings that guard it. To save me explaining, here is the poster.
