What if the USA from Southern Victory ISOTed to OTL 1950?

On January 1, 1950, a bright white light flashed throughout the entire North American Continent, replaced by the Southern Victory North America, how does the world turn out with the TL-191 America would be? How would the Dewey Administration would do in this situation? How does Britain react to the loss of Canada?

TL-191 USA would be confused what did happen to Germany and why they are occupying Japan. Britain is not happy losing Canada and probably demands releasing Canada.

And probably Mexico is not happy when it notices that it has lost Baja California, Chihuahua and Sonora. But it can't do anything anyway.

Just wondering what Stalin is going to think about this. And there was coming Korean War.

I said North America, that includes Mexico, I think that the U.S. would join in the Korean War, though not too many army personnel.

OTL Korean war from June 1950 is probably butterflied away.
The Soviet Union will need time to evaluate what exactly it is facing in TL-191 USA. On one hand, this is US weakened by war and the ongoing occupation of the Southern states and Canada. OTOH, this is a USA that is much more militarized and substantially less coy about nuking capitals (Paris, London and Petrograd get the bomb in TL-191). Also, this is USA with a functioning socialist party, so it might even be a potential ally?

In terms of North America, I am guessing this is also including the Caribbean, but not pacific islands, e.g. Hawaii? There will be a significant "rump" USA in terms of the overseas territories (750.000 citizens if Hawaii is still there) and the some 200.000-250.000 soldiers and sailors stationed here and in Germany, Japan etc.

NATO is very much in limbo with OTL USA and Canada gone, and TL-191 USA viewing UK+France as the "old enemy".

A shift like this can either go into a nuclear war if Stalin or Mao does something stupid (and the USA viewing the communist "population reduction" schemes in the same light as Featherstone) or we can get a US-Soviet socialist duo pushing France, UK and others to do dance their tune at gun point.

For Hawai'i, I like to think that they would join the TL-191 America to avoid the Soviet influence or try to remain independence, for Alaska, I also think they'd be absorbed by the US, not to mention, Texas is most likely annexed back in by this point.

The US probably wouldn't join NATO nor have special relations with Britain or France for a good while, but I doubt a nuclear war would occur since President Thomas Dewey worked to stop the spread of superbombs.

I forgot about Alaska, but there you have your new flashpoint. In TL-191 it is an underdeveloped part of a Tsarist Russia, that won its civil war against a proto-USSR. Maybe some 80.000 Russians live here. TL-191 only goes up to 1945, so we can either assume that it remains as it is, or go with the fanfic After the end which has the US invading Alaska by 1948.

If we go with Tsarist Alaska, then Tsarist Russia is gone, and the US is the "ally of the enemy". If the Soviets move quickly or play their cards smart, then it could easy gain Alaska. OTOH, TL-191 USA could also make it a protectorate.

Well, TL-191 US claims ownership of UK/Fr Caribbean possessions, so there is that for a point of conflict. Or are we considering the Caribbean as part of the NA-continent? In which case, you have the same problem with UK/Fr suddenly losing their colonies to the US.

The policy of TL-191 USA to prevent Russia, UK and France from developing nuclear weapons is also an issue, and one possible way for Dewey (or who is the US president by 1950) is to demand that the UK and Russia give up their nuclear weapons.

I'm curious what the Socialists of America will make of the Soviet Union and PRC. Despite it undeniably being a SocDem party, I figure that the distinction between the reformists and radical wings of the socialist movement isn't quite as clear cut in TL-191 with the absence of the failed socialist Revolutions in Germany and of course the failure of the Bolsheviks

I figure the reactions are going to rain from cautious curiosity to tepid support to some level disdain once the deep authoritarianism becomes clear, though for that last one TL-191's US is quite a bit more authoritarian and militaristic then OTLs, so there's that.

I think that the US would be more cautious with China and the Soviet Union, aside from Britain and France, I doubt they'd join NATO or something like that.

Sorry for the massive late response!
Yeah, I'd like to think that Alaska would be American territory through an quick invasion by 1948, if I recall, only the Bahamas and Bermuda were American territory, that would probably cause a bit of tensions with the British and the President circa 1950 would be Thomas Dewey, I think he would win a second term.

A USA with a functioning Socialist Party, which has even won elections rather than being only a fringe party would be worse than OTLs USA from the USSRs point of view: It would be a rival for leadership of the socialist world. It's Warsaw Pact provinces don't get a choice in the matter, but everywhere else Socialists might start looking to the USA for leadership instead of the USSR.

It is a fair point. OTL the hatred between maoism, communism, social democracy and national socialism etc makes the split between Sunni and Shia Muslim seem like a friendly shuffle :)

Still, there are other factors, e.g. the USA from SVerse seeing France and Britain as the traditional enemy, that could make the USA and USSR work together.

I think that since the US is more welfare friendly and might have a free university and healthcare systems it might end better than the OTL USA in the long run.

I wonder what would the stereotypes of America would be in this timeline...
America is an exceptionalist nation who talks about how it believes in freedom through government programs and justice for all through syndicalist ideology? Like, a very collectivistic-egalitarianistic society or something?

That sounds about right, but hey, at least we wouldn't be called obese or no free Healthcare stereotypes
