The Empire Parnell Built

So does this mean that absent a Communist Great Power like the USSR Communism has been sort of ideologically generalized to mean general left wing ideas, much like Socialism iotl?
Yes, very much so. In terms of policy the OTL comparison would be something like Die Linke and their status in the political system is a bit like that too: parties of the centre right and beyond do warn their voters about them but their position is considered a legitimate part of a democratic political spectrum.
Winner of the 2020 Presidential election?
Susan Collins

Hi everyone. Slightly odd announcement but a few days ago my long-serving laptop survived (#neverforget) and it seems not all of my files survived the destruction. One of the ones that didn't make it was the draft updates I had for the rest of this TL. Given that I only had about half a dozen left and the MALT infobox kind of worked better thematically, I'm going to declare this TL over now and I'm going to turn my attention to my next project. I appreciate this is a slightly odd way to end a TL but I think this was God's way of telling me to finish this and move on. Anyway, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to stick them in this thread and I'll answer them as best i can
It's been a great read while it lasted and we all look forward to your next project.

A world map would be handy
As well as political alignments (such as commonwealth states e.g.)

Unfortunate ending, but a well done timeline, so great job.

Made an account to say that this TL was part of my morning routine since around when the 1940s were being posted, and led to me making this account to say that this is a very well done timeline and I enjoyed following it while it was ongoing!

Some stuff I'd be interested in seeing if you can remember it would be cliffs notes on what the updated GDPs and leaders of countries not fully covered. Also, if it's not too much of a pain, maybe a like 1-2 sentence summary on the state of the major countries as of 2022?

Thanks again for making this really great timeline and I look forward to your next project.

Countries of the World
So since I last was on here I've been working on a wikipedia-style list of the countries of the world and their basic info, which supersedes the info provided in earlier lists (here, here, here, here, here and here). There aren't many changes but the big one has been a substantial upward revision of Russian GDP.

I've put it in a PDF rather than doing my old habit with screenshots, which I hope works for everyone. I'll look to kick up a world map on MapChart some time this week and then call it a day on this one (other than answering any questions anyone has).

(I think I've set it so people can't edit or comment on the PDF but it goes without saying that I'd be grateful if people don't alter the doc without getting my permission first...)

Wow. Reading the PDF file, I noticed that
1. Italy never united into one single country.
2. Hawaii and Alaska remained independent instead of joining the USA.

Awesome! Look forward to poring through this.

  1. As Arthur commented above, they did united but later split apart following a brutal civil war in the 1940s.
  2. They were both originally territories (as in OTL) but, because of the balance of forces in Congress never being quite right, they were not incorporated as states and both instead were granted independence (along with Puerto Rico) following referendums in the 1940s. Hawaii later brought back its monarchy following an upsurge in nationalist feeling in the 70s.
Good god how did South Australia of all places wind up with a GDP per capita of $128k?!
Because it's home to the Woomera Space Centre and consequently Adelaide became the centre for the British Empire's (and, by extension, the world's) tech, computing, aerospace and related industries.

Ahhhhh of course of course, that makes more sense

I actually remember allusions being made to the 2022 German monarchy referendum being a turning point for the country- how did that referendum go, and how did it pull the country out of a rut?

The referendum was agreed to alongside a landmark disarmament agreement with the major revolutionary paramilitaries. The result was a vote in favour of German reunification and similar results in Brandenburg and Saxony, although a referendum on the same in Prussia was hastily cancelled. A phased reunification will begin in January 2023, scheduled to complete on 1 January 2028.
So is this State of India located in Goa something like the ROC in Taiwan?
Eh, kind of. The Luso-Indian population declared independence from Portugal in 1951 and has since sort of bumbled on as a microstate with its major industries being tourism, mining and a bit of financial services. The Catholic Church is very influential - the Archbishop of Goa is an ex officio member of the cabinet - but there is a cultural challenge underway from more secular younger generations.

reunification meaning in effect the restoration of Hohenzollern rule over Germany?
