From the First Imperial Decree of the Imperial Council:
Since centuries past, when word of the true gods came to our island from distant lands, it has been known that here in the City of the Sea Cliffs lies the senior branch of the blessed bloodline. This city, the greatest in the world, which sees thousands of ships each day, has been the great capital of our continent-wide empire ever since these first enlightened people led the great holy wars across distant lands.
However, the old line of emperors has now undoubtedly lost their legitimacy, in the eyes of the gods and in those of the people. Since the sack of the City a century ago its power has scarcely been felt outside our island. It is perhaps true that in this modern age it would be impossible for any nation to equal the vastness of the early empire, but our current state is an embarrassment. The Emperor's name, even, has fallen into frequent use - the greatest disrespect one could imagine.
For this reason, then, we have claimed our throne from the pretender who sat in it before.
[...]
Signed, His Highness the Celestial Emperor, who makes his worldly home in Tsnyávthyelya, He who alone listens to the Gods, Climber of Mountains, Vanquisher of Countries.

In 1154 A.R., members of a group known as the Cliffside Guild infiltrated the Imperial Palace, assassinated the Emperor and his entire family, and thoroughly burned the palace to the ground. Shortly afterward, the Guild's leading council (now calling themselves the Imperial Council) claimed the Imperial Dignity for one of their members, known to history as the Great Pirate Emperor. The Great Pirate Emperor enacted a series of reforms that set up the entire island of several hundred thousand to function as a base for the Guild's piracy.
Five years later, the Imperial Council, with the support of the Great Pirate Emperor, chose from among their members a new emperor. This regular transfer of power, though never codified, was followed strictly for the duration of the Second Empire.

From Essays on the Dangers of Ignorance, in the First Person by Idlyusyelya
I should like to note an interesting historical factoid that has been brought to my attention. Though the idea of a modern large-scale republic is generally taken to have originated a long time later, the Second Empire of Əslích [Tsnyávthyelya] was in effect republican. The Emperor was chosen by the Council every five years, yes, but this position was largely ceremonial after the reforms of the Great Pirate Emperor. The true power always lay with the Council itself. The council was simply chosen by election from among the members of the Cliffside Guild, as it had been even before the Pirate Coup. After the Coup, the Cliffside Guild was greatly expanded, up to a few thousand as some report. Of course, this is a small voting population compared to the size of Əslích [ Slích Tsnyávthyelya], but I do still believe it should count among our histories of republicanism.
As far as I know, this is the only republic in history to have claimed that its elected leader and his entire family had the divine right to rule - and then, five years later, to then claim that a new family had supposedly fallen into the gods' favor.
...
Editor's note: Idlyusyelya uses the modern term, Əslích, but the contemporary term would probably be "Tsnyávthyelya," or "Slích Tsnyávthyelya" for the city.

This map was pretty fun to make. This is the first time i've done the "old, faded paper" texture, and it seems to have worked well enough. The map is not as detailed as perhaps I would like, but overall it's pretty good.
Some notes:
- Slích Tsnyávthyelya is pronounced just like it's spelled! [ˈslɨːç ˌt͡sɲaːv.ˈθʲε.ʎæ].
- Yes, this is the same universe as my entry for MOTF 246. This map is set roughly 150 years earlier. The downfall of the Pirate Republic Second Empire of Tsnyávthyelya was caused by a catastrophic monsoon between the eras of the two maps; this is the same monsoon that swept out a vast lowland, most of which was already below sea level, and formed the eastern straits which are visible in the bottom left of the other map.
- This city is huge. While probably not the greatest in the world, as the Imperial Council claims, that entire colored area on the map is urban. That's a large area. This city is easily over a hundred thousand people, and this era is similar technologically to our late medieval.

TL;DR: A group of pirates took over a theocratic, hereditary empire and replaced it with what was essentially a pirate republic - but they still claimed divine right to rule, and sacred blood, and all that.

Basically, the Eastern Prussian Evacuation does not happen, and instead becomes a German region of the USSR, and eventually the Russian Federation.
Didn't the Soviets expel the Germans from East Prussia? The evacuation was carried out by the Germans in the last days of WW2 but it became Russified after the expulsion of the German population post-WW2. If the evacuation did not happen the Germans will still be expelled nontheless.

Anglo-American Wars North America V2.png

Here's a quick take on an alternate American Revolution, wherein New England remains with Britain and the US has a much more antagonistic relationship with Britain over the course of the 19th century (I've got six Anglo-American wars plotted out at the moment, almost one every ten to twenty years).

It's finally here.

With results from previous encounters standing at 1 - 1, it's time for the decider.

With their Barca captain retired, the Kinaani will rely on home grown talent, Traïnós from I-Shpania, plus Noki on the Phalanx.

The Quirites have had major problems with their captains since the last encounter. After the tragic death of their captain from Marathon many strikers competed for the captaincy but the son of the "Farmer", a previous captain, will lead the Quirites.

The Quirites are fresh from defeating strong opponents in the Parni and Baiuvarii but are still smarting from injuries received. The Kinaani have only played locally for some time but they still look strong.

Which of these opponents will come out on top;
Me. I win :D

EDIT: oh shit didn't realize there was a kick related to this, should i delete

Map of the Dominion of Nyrfold
(approx ~50-60 km west of the Azores)
Basically a what if on if Atlantis's myth was true, but with a Norse and British twist
took me a whole bloody day! Thoughts?
Only 50-60 km? Wouldn't the Azores be colonized when Nyrfold was discovered -- or vice versa?

Also wouldn't the Azores be close enough to be seen on this map then?

My only suggestion would be to change the ruins of Atlantix to the central isle, to line up more with Platos recounting (also maybe the ruins of a manamde canal leading to the middle lake?)

Tile the flags instead of putting them in a row, merge the split text fields, fudge around with fontsize, enlarge the minimaps a bit.

Below is an extremely coarse mockup, but hopefully you'll get what I mean.

Bleed to consume another day - A cyberpunk world

1643406055378.png

The year is 2112 in a world slightly different from ours, a world suffering through some climate change and a lot of social strife. The world is dominated by many megacorperations, technology has penetrated every nook and cranny of the planet, there has been a fair amount of ecological collapse and everyone and everything is depressing. Fun.

The many megacorporations of the world have grown to rival the power of most nations, and many of them have struck their tendrils into as many facets of life as possible. The power of the corporations run deep, even penetrating the culture of the world. For instance, the Pacifican Megacorporation IIT (International Information Technology) owns many residential neighborhoods around the world, produces smartphones, owns many automobile companies, runs fashion companies, creates movies and entertainment, manages restaurant chains, sells produce, controls much of their own production chain and rules a few governments. Due to compatibility issues and discounts for long term customers, people are often bound to a megacorporation if they are wealthy enough to purchase their goods or work for them.

This creates strong loyalty between the corporation and their consumer, which has slowly changed the culture of much of the developed world. Brand loyalty is an extremely powerful force, with many people feeling compelled to defend their brand and feel loyal to them. Often, riots occur in parts of cities that are not controlled by megacorps between the consumers of rival brands, egged on by the upper management of the mega corporations. Of course, there are many people who think they are too good for falling into the corporate loyalty traps, and they are stuck using sub par technology and living sub par lives compared to their corporate consuming counterparts. Small businesses are almost impossible to start up, and if they get successful enough a hostile takeover sometimes occurs.

IIT is the world's largest megacorperation, followed by the Russian Ohara Group (which completely controls the country), the Japanese Omasu Conglomerate and Chiheisen, PRISM (another Pacifican megacorperation), the Japanese-Korean company Pi, the British Royal Holdings, the Midlantic conglomerate Alvarado-Emenheiser (AEC), the American company Dot and lastly the French pyramid scheme l' éclat.

Most countries in this world are extremally corrupt, more or less being held together by corporate money. Generally, states are dominated by multiple megacorps, but typically one reigns supreme over the other, controlling the majority of the government or having the highest percentage of consumers. Of course, there are many rivals to the corporate world order, as theocracies, communist states and ecological socialist republics attempt to thwart their power, citing the damage that they have done to the world.

Now this is a really fascinating scenario that I'd love to see more of. I think you manage to create a super intriguing world order of megacorporations, particularly the emergence of their borderline nationalism through brand loyalty and their imperialism conducted outside of state oversight. Out of curiosity, what's the economic system of the EcoSoc countries like, especially Brazil? Do they adhere to a Bookchin Communalist-esque model, or do they go for something new?

I would guess it is something like that, I haven't really fleshed it out.
Are there any good places left?
The upper tier districts of corporate cities and their executive's mansion towns, of course. But yeah, some corporate run countries are worse than others, for example the Royal Holdings are probably nicer to Prussia and Scandinavia than Banda-Borneo. Also Switzerland is doing fine, and is fairly equal.

Did you play as Persia, RUssia, or Ottos?

As I mentioned to someone else, I was "USA." Ottos definitely popped off, they were #1 by development at the end date. "Persia" there is actually the Timurids who somehow made it all the way to 1821 without either imploding or forming something.

Some other fun facts:
  • Three of the biggest European countries (Austria, Brandenburg, and Scandinavia) are all under branches of the Habsburgs.
  • The countries in the Guyanas/Amazon, Argentina, and Western Australia were all colonized by the Dutch before France completely ate them.
  • Bengal and Tunis both reformed into Republics.
  • The PLC went Revolutionary and then lost Poland, leaving a rump Revolutionary Republic in Lithuania.
  • Ibadi islam has been completely expunged from the world, and Shia only hangs on in two provinces in Golestan. Every remaining Muslim nation is Sunni.
  • Sind flipped to Sikhism.

A sequel to Peter's Russia
Sort-of-sneak-peak for a yuge map im working on rn
Starting out of San Francisco the Greater Pacific Company quickly gained notoriety for its cost-efficient geo-engineering projects. Over the decades they've gone from a small but innovate company to the world's greatest geo-engineering company. They've been employed all across the world, the coasts of Mexico, Malayasia's megacities, Saharan greenhouses, and Canadian arcologies. The Companies political system is a curious one. Created as a reactionary to the rise of socialism. Separatists in California turned to socialism to unite the various separatist groups. Many successful communes were formed, California was given autonomy, and a representative council was formed. Several companies went bankrupt, either through direct dismantlement or statewide boycotting. To combat the rising threat of full independence, and thus the dismantlement of corporations, the Greater Pacific Company promoted anarcho-capitalism. With the help of Mexico City, the Company turned several cities to their side, including Los Angeles. In 1931 the tension proved too much for the nation and civil war broke out. In a secret meeting held with the Mexican government the Company agreed to turn their backs on their anarchist allies after the war for funding. After years of fighting southern California was placed under military rule and the San Fransisco Bay was given to the Greater Pacific Company. After facing two civil wars (the second far shorter than the first) left both the government and company destabilized. The secret agreement was extremely risky, and the Company had to make it all worth it. By connecting the highlands to the coast both sides would earn great prestige and surely rise higher than ever. From there the Greater Pacific Company began its long history of state funded mega engineering projects.
