Where the River Flows: The Story of Misia: A Native American Superpower

Well, at least we can say that he'll be the last eunuch; that won't ever be a prestigious position with such a punitive premise as that.
Every culture needs their controversial leader who was actually a massive piece of shit but at the end of the day was ultimately beneficial to society as a whole despite his glaring issues and ends up being remembered as a hero of sorts.
I guess that:
  1. He successfully adopts Haudenosaunee Democracy.
  2. He successfully pulls the North East, especially Haudenosaunee, tighter into the Misian orbit, considering the preeminence of Manhattan and Erie Canal in New World trade.
  3. He relinquishes the traditional privileges of the plains tribes, and conducts genocide against them.
  4. He establishes a charter for the northern fur trade, which basically becomes an onerous extraction franchise that sought to squeeze the northern fur traders dry.
  5. He presides over a time of capitalisation that led to the modernisation of its economy, and the beginning of the mass importation of slaves as well.

He then tied up both his former friend and former wife in the throne room. In front of everyone, he had his friend publicly and brutally castrated and then executed his former wife. The names of both were stamped out of all available records, and he would simply from that point on refer to his former wife as “the whore” and his former friend as “the eunuch”.

The eunuch was treated as a spectacle in the imperial court as part of his ongoing punishment and humiliation. Maquah would frequently have intercourse with each of his concubines in front of the court– including his eunuch, and would often invite guests to assault and sodomize the eunuch.
Maquah went Ramsay Bolton and beyond.

I mean, who *wouldn’t* execute their cheating ex and castrate their ex’s lover, torturing them in an emasculating manner to the point of suicide while doing their mom?

Also you just know that on this TL’s 4chan you probably have a bunch of incels calling him based for all the horrid shit he did

shit, in this TL, they’re not even called incels: they’re just named after this man, in his honor.

I’m just calling it as canon right now that Maquah will be a rather common name.
You know like, Maquahs are really difficult people to deal with, y'know? There isn't one time that they'll not pathetically whine after you refused their advances.

Now, one question here: how similar is he to Ivan the Terrible?
I can not yet confirm nor deny any of your predictions/questioms

The name Maquah is actually much more of a generic common name like Michael or Joe.
The name itself actually comes from Miami-Illinois for “bear”, so if I wanna create a Chad-type name Maquah may somewhat ironically be a contender for that.

I sure would love to see the Unbiased History episode on him if there was one
Honestly ITTL I might cosplay the guy instead of Calígula for Halloween

You cosplay as Caligula? Damn, turns out you’re my spirit animal. Incredible.
Yup!
During Halloween I decided to make a laurel crown with paper and wear my blanket as if it was a tunic while screaming "I AM EMPEROR CALIGULA, I WISH ROME HAD ONE NECK SO I COULD CUT IT"
making my best Horrible Histories impression and akwardly trying to recite the speech about being a god from his 1979 movie
It was originally for a date but since Covid didnt allow us to have nice things it ended up being just for myself, still very happy about it

Tldr: I would totally do that with Maquah ITTL if I liked him(and existed lol)

Anyways! I think this pretty much confirms what was being hinted at
Misia is not nice
It is a great native americans survive and very realistic at that, but from slavery to crazy emperors and ethnic cleansing things can and sometimes will go bad
I can imagine people ITTL with resentment towards Misia's history much like in our own towards the US thinking how much better things could be if only someone "nice" like the british colonized the whole thing like they probably did here in a smaller scale further north(where our Canada would be)
I know this for a fact because I am from a country where it's relatively common for people to say "if only we were colonized by the english..." despite having OTL history books to provide hindsight on that

So much of political and historical discourse is “if only the right people would rule”. India went from oppressive sultanates to British rule to shitty half-assed socialism to Hindu nationalism. The Israeli government has a shoddy human rights record to say the least, but many also assume if only Israel lost everyone would live peacefully under Arab rule. Chinese peasants under the Kuomintang may long for Maoist rule, and many of those stuck under the Tsars longed for the Soviet rule that would oppress them as well.

That applies in this TL too. The Meshica Christians of this TL would probably kill to have Spain conquer them. The slaves who built the Eriron Canal probably wish Haudenosaunia was ruled by the English instead. The Taino have been displaced by the Spanish, but can you imagine if the Spanish were in turn displaced by the Taino?
