WI: Lee Harvey Oswald Attempted to Escaped to Oklahoma after JFK Assassination

At 12:30 P.M, assassin Lee Harvey Oswald used 6.5x52mm Carcano Model 38 infantry carbine to plan the several shots on the fatally shooting of President John F. Kennedy to death at the motorcade (including the firing shots to injured Texas Governor John Connally). He then quickly walks downstair to find his vehicle to drive somewhere at outskirts of downtown Dallas. At 1:00 P.M, the doctor confirmed President JFK died from bullet wound at the back of the head.

What if, somehow, Lee Harvey Oswald decided to take the long-haul bus as soon as possible from Dallas to Oklahoma City (state capital of Oklahoma) about 30-50 minutes after Lee Harvey Oswald fatally assassinated John F. Kennedy at nearby Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas, TX? Make assumption on the attempted bus trip to Oklahoma.

He'd be hunted down across the country like James Earl Ray or John Wilkes Booth until he's brought to justice. It becomes a media spectacle that dominates headlines for as long as it happens. Its actually kind of a Bin Laden situation.

If he tries to get out of the country, he's most likely caught. No one in the world is going to want him. He'd probably try to get to the USSR again, but the Soviet Embassy will turn him in. Possibly he could try Cuba but doubtful Castro would take him. Maybe he tries to hide out in Mexico. But he'll be caught eventually.

He's the most wanted man in the world. So he gets him fame, but lives like an animal. The people who reject him and his fleeing serves as proof he's a lone murderer who killed out of resentment for fame, and not a conspiracy member of a grand plot. If any nation does take him, it will have America's wrath and that of the world since the world tends to be on America's side in tragedies. The CIA or military gets or kills him.

I think Lee Oswald planned at the secret house/motel in OKC, but an imminent exposure could lead to Lee Harvey Oswald using his knife to target innocent driver and pleaded to take the border to Canada with little stops. This is my own thoughts. Oswald might attempt to change the name from license plate and passport to forge them so he wouldn't caught at border crossing at Manitoba province.

The problem is that from all the information I have read about the Kennedy Assassination it seems that Oswald had no plan and only decided to kill Kennedy the night before when he was watching television and the motorcade route was published in the afternoon newspapers that showed it was going past his place of work the Texas Schoolbook Depository.
He had a co worker drive him into work that morning where he had the rifle that he used wrapped up and told his co worker that it was "curtain rods" and after the shooting he had to go back to the rooming house he was staying at to get more money and by that time the Dallas Police was looking for him.
Oswald didn't have access to a car on his own and by the time his name was broadcasting on the police radio plans were being made to stop any Trailways or Greyhound bus leaving the Dallas area, Dallas Police officer J.D. Tippit received a description of a possible suspect resembling Oswald less than 30 minutes after the shooting and less than 45 minutes after the shooting Officer Tippit saw someone who matched the description of the radio broadcast and pulled his patrol car over to question the person who turned out to be Oswald who then proceeded to kill Officer Tippit.
One of the things that keep American Presidents safe from possible assassination attempts is that the potential assassin has to be willing to die in the attempt because getting away with it is practically impossible and that is usually enough to stop the sane from trying.

I can picture Oswald trying to flee to Cuba, but you can bet that Castro's immediate response was "we need to give him back as soon as possible. I'll be damned if they blame me for the assassination"

As previous comments said, In the end, they’ll probably catch him, as he was the man that killed the US president and this is the 20th Century. Even in the 19th Century, they cornered John Wilkes Booth and killed him. Imagine that but with modern (at the time) technology. So it’ll either end three ways for Oswald.

A) Goes to court, and actually gets question since Jack Ruby would’ve butterflied away
B) Goes to court, gets killed by someone else taking the place of OTL Jack Ruby, which leads to a bunch of conspiracy theories
C) Takes his own life when cornered

He could pull what he did in Russia and pull a half hearted pleading suicide attempt just to get the trial delayed and get attention.

I don't want this to get political, but one of the things that strikes me on Oswald is how much his psychology is like that of a modern school shooter: the nihilism, the resentment, the self importance, the hatred, the selfishness, the whining, the individual weakness and pitifulness which finds strength and righteousness through ideology and violence, and an individual hurt being turned into a weapon of malevolence to lash out at and destroy the representatives of the foundations of the society itself. Actually the same could be said about the other assassins of the 1960s.

LBJ would get back to Washington ASAP. Keep in mind, finding out Oswald was a suspect took some investigation. No one knows who did this just yet and when they do, they don't know how far it goes. The immediate thought was this was a pretext to a Soviet first strike: kill the leadership (which would have included Johnson), mobilize military forces and launch the nukes. Think of it as you're driving on a back road at night and someone just shot at you and keeps shooting at you but you can't see them. That's the psychology right after Kennedy was shot. So he needs to get back immediately to take control of the situation.
