Dawn of the Dead (2004) 15 years after the outbreak...

I must agree things like farming and hunting will be most useful as will other basic survival skills that are now needed with the fall of civilization as we knew it.

Basic reading/writing will be of much help as will basic math (adding and subtracting mostly, I see things like geometry and calculus not being taught).

I also see a lot of trade schools around; mechanics, electricians and plumbers are worth their weight in gold. There will be a small need for new pilots as older ones cease to be able to fly but with few aircraft there's not going to be a huge demand - at least not at first.

For "University" level things like basic chemistry and biology will be useful.

I see older doctors being recruited to try and keep medical universities functional; doctors and nurses plus support personnel being of extreme usefulness.
This ensures that even without the levels of education we had in 2004, there would at least exist some form of it to be passed on to the next generation.

Yes, this will be a dream of all kids to no more learn geometry and calculus.

Mechanics, electricians, and plumbers would be needed. Another thing is we might see conscription into what remains of military forces (The plot for this Dawn of the Dead fanfic set in post-2007: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/594828...Byjo0WQKfa8MQDNx_J28-1638516874-0-gaNycGzNB_0 , kids as young as 15 are taught basic infantry tactics but leftover military forces).

Correct about the pilots. Since the United States Air Force has the Civil Air Patrol (Happy 80th anniversary btw) which flies Cessnas and other turboprops, these would be useful to scout for deserted cities, towns, and surviving states. Turboprops are relatively easy to maintain. Might as well forget the C-17 Globemaster and the C-5 Galaxy and say hello to the mighty C-130s once more just like in WWZ where the USAF had to store their jet-powered planes due to the lack fuel.

Agree with the last part too. If there are surviving CDC and HHS virologists, they could at least study the zombie virus and present their findings to the post-outbreak survivors. I doubt the cure/vaccine would ever be found, but at least the human race could have some answers on how the virus works.

Helicopter pilots as well.

One thing that will desperately be needed is various medicines, especially antibiotics. I'm sure there will be a concentrated effort to try and get pharmaceutical factories working again but that's going to be a tall order.

Engineers are another field which will be needed to try and maintain existing superstructures as I don't see much new being built for some time...

I remember in Day of the Dead, the military used a civilian helicopter to scout areas around Florida. Anything worthy to fly would be of a good resource.

Society would like remain using basic antibiotics that could be made in the lab. The days of Fleming will return.

I'd imagine seeing the roads being full of potholes or weeds growing over them. Some will have been turned into craters from bombs dropped by the military, erosion, or natural gas that blew up from the pipes below.

Some images below show how unusable the roads would be by the 2010s:

Not only roads but bridges. Bridges are very vulnerable and are required to be thoroughly inspected at least every few years. A few years with no inspection or maintenance and they run serious risk of collapse...

I could see some bridges over the Mississippi already collapse. I wonder how the Golden Gate Bridge and the Oakland Bay Bridge is doing, assuming it was not bombed by the U.S. Air Force.

If things stabilize, at least in one part of the country, I could see specialized members of the armed forces being reassigned to maintaining energy resources and infrastructure, especially from the Navy.

Forgive me, but I have no concept of when or if stabilization could occur with these zombies. 28 days later's infected will drop within a month and the Romero zombies can be stopped within a few years.

But, running zombies? I don't know.

It may be like the Commonwealth from The Walking Dead. I could see the U.S. Navy be the least affected branches of the military. I did my research where most ships were deployed during the POD (scroll a few pages back or check the threadmarks). Consider this is May 2004 and most ships would have been in the Middle East, the Pacific, or Europe.

Hawaii and Alaska were not mentioned in the map of the news report, so there is a 50/50 chance the Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor survived.

It appears we got the post-apocalyptic world in a just month for this scenario. The outbreak swept the globe in 24 hours and collapsed modern society in that time span. By one month, the zombies looked way rotten as @Resurgam pointed out. Plus, June is a summer so I could see most zombies be gone spring. It was pointed out in this fanfiction (Chapter 61) that most zombies died out by August 2004 and the ones that remained were reduced to slow shamblers. By 2009, most of the zombies were rotted skeletons to the point they were no longer a threat.

Cue by the ending in 2010, the chance of finding a zombie was nil as Milwaukee was described as a "rotting, rusty skeleton" devoid of life and unlife.

The sea spray does not help metal and the paint is not going to be replaced. If there's no other damage then they should last a while but once things start to fail the bridge will start to apart quickly...

By TTL's 2021, it could still be standing. It would probably take a century or more for these bridges to fall.

Here are some post-apocalyptic art of San Francisco.

The Book of Eli shows the Golden Gate Bridge still standing decades after the nuclear war:

Depends if these were made prior to May 6-7, 2004. If so, then copies may exist in a storage.
But if not, then it's butterflied away.

Final Wars premiered (officially) in Hollywood, November 20th.

IMDB says the production schedule was longer than most Godzilla movies, so I don't have a firm date of when the production completely finished.

Might have never finished at all. I assume Japan was overrun with zombies due to the high population density and bad geography.

Apparently, Friends ended just a day before the outbreak.

Now that's a real end of an era. The last of the good times before everything gets really awful.

If you think of it, May 6, 2004 was just ordinary Thursday night. The outbreak was already known just the next day. People would have been preparing for work and school. NBA finals for 2004 was about to end in a month. The U.S. and NATO is involved in Afghanistan and Iraq.

There were sporadic cases of the outbreak on the evening of the 6th, but it was just thought to be riots and civil disturbances.

the Zombies are coming manila is boned what next cebu
Manila will be screwed as with all major cities. Cebu is also screwed. Not to mention the AFP in 2004 was at a very bad state. The PAF's F-5s have been grounded since 2002 and there's only M113s, AIFVs, V-150s, Simbas, and Scorpion light tanks. The Hueys were also aging at this period. The Navy had floating tin cans from WWII and the Cold War. Most of these were patrol vessels, patrol escort vessels, and converted minelayers. The flagship, the BRP Rajah Humabon, is no bigger than a SuperFerry. There were only two Bacolod City-class landing ships at this period (BRP Bacolod City and BRP Dagupan City), which could be used for evacuation.
