I've been really digging this series! MOAR! MOAR!1996 General Election
2000 Democratic & Republican Primaries
The 2000 United States presidential election was the 54th quadrennial American presidential election. Democratic nominee and Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts faced off against the Republican nominee, First Lady of the United States Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina. A multitude of issues - from President Dole's 1997 tax cuts, healthcare and social security, to Iraq and Kosovo, were discussed in this election.
Early in his term, President Bob Dole worked with the Republican congressional leaders to pass sweeping tax cuts, keeping his promise of cutting taxes by 15% across-the-board. Quickly however, the national deficit begun to increase. Controversial cuts to healthcare and social security were made in an attempt to balance the budget, though this made little impact. These became key issues of the 1998 midterms, which saw Democrats gain a narrow majority in the House of Representatives (219-215) and control of the Governor's Conference, while Republicans retained the United States Senate (53-47).
In 1999, Banking reform became a key issue as the banking industry decried overregulation in the midst of a banking crisis. Despite his personal opposition to such, Democratic House Speaker Dick Gephardt could not get his caucus to prevent the passage of the Gramm-Leach-Billey Act in the House, where it passed the Senate and was swiftly signed by President Dole. That same year, foreign policy became another pressing matter, as the issue involving Kosovan sovereignty was discussed despite Serbian opposition. Dole recommended taking swift military action to protect Kosovan sovereignty in the fall of 1999 to the UN, which such resolution was passed overwhelmingly. Weeks later, Iraq expelled UN bomb inspectors that were there to investigate the validity of claims that the Hussein regime was constructing weapons of mass-destruction. Dole and many of America's NATO allied leaders - most notably UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, proposed a preemptive military intervention, which was also passed by the UN. The issue of managing both Iraq's weapons creation and Kosovan sovereignty remained major foreign policy issues - alongside what to do with Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind of many terrorist attacks in America and in allied nations abroad, moving into the 2000 election season.
In September 1999, Bob Dole announced he would not be running for a 2nd term as president - citing health concerns. He then passed the torch to his wife Elizabeth, who became the first First Lady to run for political office in American history. She would easily become the Republican's nominee for President for the 2000 election. After Former Vice President Al Gore's withdrawal of consideration for a 2000 candidacy, the Democratic party faced a hotly contested primary. Ultimately it would be Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts who became the nominee after victories in key contests, such as the New Hampshire, California, and Texas primaries. As the Republicans nominated the first female nominee for President in history, the Democrats knew they had a problem among female voters if they didn't do something to counteract Dole's status. Some of these concerns went away when presumptive Democratic nominee Kerry announced in April his running mate would be a woman. As to who it would be would not be known until July when Kerry made his choice clear - Senator Dianne Feinstein of California. Despite not having a strong liberal record, in fact being a rather conservative Democrat, she was nevertheless well respected among moderate voters. There was also the addition that Feinstein, being Jewish herself, could help Kerry greatly among Jewish voters in Florida, expected to be a make or break state for both nominees. Dole's choice was a bit more expected - Governor George W. Bush of Texas. He had added name recognition, connection to donors, youth and charm, and the bonus of his brother Jeb being Governor of Florida, a job he narrowly won just 2 years prior. Kerry saw a weak spot in this choice and labeled Bush and Dole as "fed by the silver-spoon of big wall street donors".
The campaign was very divisive. Kerry touted his senatorial experience, while claiming Dole lacked any experience. She rebuffed these claims by citing her experience in cabinet positions, to which Kerry remarked at a rally "At least I've won elections." Kerry also often brought up his military experience, having won 3 purple hearts for his service in Vietnam. He claimed this experience would aid him in solving America's military disputes around the globe. Dole campaigned on conservative, family values, lowering taxes and defending her husband's marquee 15% tax cuts from 1997. Kerry campaigned against the Dole tax cuts, calling them "just another handout to wall street" but supported low taxes on the middle class. Kerry also attacked Bob Dole and the Republicans for breaking their promise to not make any cuts to social security, and defended the Clinton administrations approach to taxes, which was still popular, especially among moderate democrats. Despite her best attempts, Dole could not untie herself from the image of an out-of-touch candidate with deep ties to big donors. Numerous gaffes by her and her running mate accentuated this feeling among voters. Though all three presidential debates came with rather inconclusive results, Kerry was generally accepted as having won each of them - albeit narrowly, only hurting the Dole camp. But the final nail in the coffin was the eleventh-hour revelation that George W. Bush had been arrested in 1976 for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Though Republicans hoped they could score another 4 years, these hopes became less and less attainable as the night progressed. The state that did it in was Nevada being officially called for Kerry at 12:05 AM on November 8th. Dole conceded defeat as America elected the first Vietnam War veteran to be president, and the first Female vice president - 80 years after the passage of the 19th amendment. To add insult to injury, after a recount Florida would be called for Kerry on November 18th, putting Kerry at exactly 300 electoral votes, at least until an elector from DC abstained, putting him at 299 - to Dole's 238.

Amazing
Thank you very very kindly folks! It was a lot of work and at the end I really wasn't sure it was worth it but response has been so nice, feels like a real vindication!+++. That's a level beyond most stuff on this site. Also I'm pretty sure anything wiki-like tends to be okay in this thread.
Incredible work, still digging through all the details.Less wikibox, more wikipage but this took a million years so I thought I'd show it off here:
This was very well done! I really love the premise and the post-restoration order. I believe that you won't need to censor any of the more modern political figures since I doubt that current politics will apply with a POD that far back.Incredible work, still digging through all the details.
___
I figured that since Robert Reich hasn't held office since the 90s he wouldn't be classified as a current political figure, but I'll censor his portion if necessary. This was inspired by an old post by Joshua Ben Ari on his test thread in which George Van Horn Moseley leads a coup and establishes a fascist dictatorship with all the cleansing and sterilization that comes with it. My concept was that a partisan-like resistance made up of Christians (who strongly opposed Moseley's crackdowns on non-compliant churches), liberals, socialists, communists, and so on, overthrow the regime with assistance from the Anglo-French and the Soviets. For a time the system resembles post-war Italy, complete with huge and factionalized parties and a massive public sector used for patronage until a Tangentopoli-like scandal topples the Kirkland Ministry and the old party system along with it. New poles form around the libertarian Justice and market socialist United Left parties until a coup plot based on false flag attacks goes awry, and the Second Republic is overthrown.

The elections are determined by popular vote. However, dealing with the popular vote is a huge pain in the ass, so I didn't bother to add it to the infobox. How is it determined?
I honesty have no idea how well Krispy Kreme would do or Tim Hortons for that matter. I only got these result because of this map.Looks like im the only one who voted for Krispy Kreme then...
This is interesting!
I got most of the references from this and I just want to say this very good and I think it's super original in terms of star wars content I've seen on here!A recent addition to my Franz Ferdinand TL :

The Church of the Force, also known as the Jedi-Bendu Order or Jediism, is a new religious movement that was founded in the 1970s in California by American racing driver Lucas Starkiller. It has been variously defined as a cult, a philosophy or a new religious movement.
Born on May, 14 1944 in Modesto, CA, as George Walton Lucas, Jr., Lucas Starkiller was raised as a Methodist, achieving some fame in the American sports car racing circuit as a skilled driver. Starkiller had to stop his career after an accident on May, 25 1977, during which he claimed to have had an epiphany in the wreckage, claiming “he had survived thanks to the Force and had to rebuild the ancient Order of the Jedi-Bendu” ; if some detractors of Jediism have pointed the blunt trauma suffered by Starkiller caused him to mix his own beliefs with his souvenirs as a major cinephile in private, Starkiller changed his legal name and founded the Church of the Force as a non-profit organization on May, 4 1978, becoming bigger through the years, founding its first abroad chapter in 1999 and claiming his millionth convert by 2015.
A deist philosophy, heavily influenced by Asian philosophy, in particular bushido, Jediism’s main belief reside in the “Force”, described by scholars as a “massive flow of energy and power, present in every being and thing, that structures the entire universe together, that anybody can use without being aware”. The “Force” has two sides : one darker path leads to thirst of power, materialism, violence, oppression and ultimately suffering, the servants of these path being labelled as the “Empire of Evil”. The Jedi-Bendus, as the members of the Church dub themselves, claim to be servants of the lighter path and as thus, as servants of justice, righteousness, peace and order. Their philosophy is inspired by Christian monastical orders, taking vows of chastity, charity, poverty, obedience and volunteerism, emphasizing self-improvement through knowledge, an ascetic lifestyle, physical exercise (such as use of martial arts), meditation and wisdom, forbidding use of violence except for self-defense, respecting all races and genders.
A pyramidal organization, the Church is led by a twelve-member High Council, of which Starkiller serves as Grand Masters ; there are four levels inside the Order itself. Newly recruited members are Initiates, learning collectively about the dogma of the Church, until they become Padawans (Apprentices) formed individually by a Jedi-Bendu Knight in a senpai-kohai relationship ; Knights who have successfully trained various apprentices up to knightship are granted the title of Masters. Along with their philosophy, the Jedi-Bendus are noticeable for their ceremonial attire, wearing beards and long hair, light earth-colored hooded robes and decorative “sabers”, used for self-defense.
Engaging in caritative activities, distribution of food and shelter for the poor, humanitarian volunteership throughout the world, the Jedi-Bendu Order now claims a membership of more than 1,2 million people throughout the world, mainly in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and Aoatearoa, with Churches of the Force offices found throughout America and Europe, with many missions present in Africa. Politically active, Jedi-Bendus have been noticed at pro-civil rights demonstrations, refusing to endorse any political candidate but leaning in favor of the Progressive Party. As such, the Church of the Force tends to be recognized as a new religious movement, described by scholars as “Californian Zen”, “Yankee Wandervogels” or “American Tolstoyism”. The main scripture of the Church is the Journal of the Whills, penned by Starkiller along with the Jedi-Bendu Code, with May,4 serving as their holiday as the date of the creation of the Church. Due to their pacifism, refusal of any discrimination and statuts as conscientious objectors, along with debate about their status as a cult, the Church is forbidden in most of the Middle East, Russia and parts of Asia.
However, others have called the Church a cult for various reasons. Some have pointed the most outlandish claims of Starkiller and his followers, such as being able to master psychic abilities through the Force, like telekinesis, mind control and extrasensory perception, or rumoured claims by Starkiller to “be the heir of Mace Windy, a revered Jedi-Bendu from planet Yavin”, with a scholar describing the Church of the Force as “a hokey religion, a bunch of mumbo-jumbo drawn by a kid who saw too much Barsoom and Dune”. Others have pointed out Starkiller’s lifestyle, exemplified by the acquisition of Starkiller Ranch, the Church’s headquarters in Marin County, California, not in line with his followers’ vows of poverty and charity, suspecting Starkiller of embezzlement of funds and robbing his converts’ properties. Other critics pointed the Jedi-Bendus as a paramilitary organization in disguise, due to their practice of martial arts along with their sword-wielding, while other point out their beliefs to be xenophobic in nature, with the “Empire of Evil” standing for the former Empire of Japan (whose values of bushido are considered an inspiration for the Jedi-Bendus) or Germany.
