Fear Nothing But God: A Graphical History

Where did all this discussion on this ideology happen your using details I can't find on any the six pages of this tl?
The regionalism of power politics has been mentioned in discussion, as well as the lack of a Cold War and the spread of Concordist partisans. The fact that Concordism is focused on all the relationships of society is mentioned in the ideological post, and my position is an extrapolation combining the facts on the ground of TTL's Great Power politics and the textbook definition of the ideology.

Note: A few errors persist and a few changes need to be made but this is the broad setup.
I don't know if others before me have noticed it but there is an error on your card.
In France on the west coast there is a city called "Lyon". Now it is not Lyon there but Bordeaux, Lyon is not far from the Alps in the Rhone valley.

BASIC TIMELINE OF THE ALBIC MILITARY
bYwnvjE.png

The modern history of the Fraternal Commonwealth's Military begins with the First Albic Revolution in 1644. Though the Oak Apple Monarchy was established in 1660 and Commonwealth Government would not return for 25 years, constitutionally the Commonwealth sees this period as an illegal usurpation and the Commonwealth Military does not recognize it or its armed forced as a legal part of Albic history. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the Model Army and Commonwealth Navy were and developed, the Model Army developing a reputation as one of Europe's smaller but most well armed and well drilled armies whilst the Navy, alongside that of the United Provinces, became the most powerful in the world. The rise of the Albic Compact in 1920 led to the split of the Albic Military between those who supported the Compact and those who supported the Free Government. Following the Dirty War of 1920-1921, the pro-Compact faction of the Navy was brought under the Command of the Model army as the MASF whilst the pro-Commonwealth Navy continued to claim the legal title of the pre-War Navy. The Free Government also established the Popular Skyfleet in 1921, creating an independent Sky Branch of the Military for the first time in Albic History. The Conclusion of the Black 20s saw the final abolition of the Model Army after nearly 300 years of existence and its replacement by the Popular Liberation Army, which remains the primary ground forces of the FC today.

A nice little update for everyone! As you can tell, these random breaks and sudden apperances are pretty much the norm at this point and I doubt it's going to change. However this last week I have been quite productive and there is more to come! There should be a big political update over the weekend (probably tomorrow!).

I'm gonna go back and answer a few more questions so if people do have specific things about the TL they're curious about or any general questions please let me know and I'd be very happy to answer!

Buddy can you answer some of my lore questions. I suspect the friends church is a universalist one. Am I correct in this assumption?

Crimson what is the population of this world

A decent amount higher than OTL, given the lower level of imperialist and industrialised violence, as well as more broad and balanced development. Just scraping 10 Billion at as of 2021.

Has the friends church embraced universalism ?

Broadly speaking yes but the Friends circa 2021 are effectively Liberal Congregationalist Quakers. Universalism is popular but the doctrines of the church are deliberately rather vague and different congregations (and even different believers) will have somewhat different takes on the matter. On the whole, its a popular belief however. :)

Hows climate change doing. I struggle to see how such a large population can be reached without some greenhouse gas emissions

How much more liberal is this the culture here than otl. I mean a pod this far back butterflies away wahhabism but also can butterfly the liberalization of the Catholic church.

It's back, woo!

Now you've got me really curious about the black 20's. Going back into wild speculation territory I used to assume it was some sort of concordist takeover, but that seemingly wouldn't mesh well with the current election update. With the mention of some sort of pseudo-civil war (or even a full-on one) my working assumption is that the "Black Coup" was some sort of in-universe equivalent of a fascist takeover (presumably rexists?).

As for questions, I don't recall if I or someone else have asked about it before but I'm guessing the Friends church is a legacy of our good Public Universal Friend?

From the new posts on the test thread it seems the Coup is crypto fascist 🤔 as an aside I think the Friends are Quakers.

Along the same path as OTL. The larger population and world wide industrial development was obviously a big negative but generally a less industrialised/more agrarian Europe/North America (particularly the OTL United States) as well as better environmental protection of regions like the Amazon have helped to balance things out. Also ITTL isn't really any equivalent to the huge multinational energy corporations of OTL and the lack of their influence helped the consensus on Climate Change to come about sooner with less political resistance.

There's a general knock on effect from an earlier establishment of OTL Enlightenment values and yes the Catholic Church is a little ahead of OTL's schedule of liberalisation but not massively so, perhaps a few decades at most. Wahhabism is indeed butterflied away, though Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab existed largely as IOTL, being born only ~20 years after the PoD.

IOTL, the wave of Religious orthodoxy that we saw emerging almost world wide in the 1970s hasn't really happened, though of course there have been periods of greater religiosity (such as in the TTL 1910s and 1950s), just no big waves on that same level. That means that as of 2021 Religious Extremism isn't really a thing and generally relations between the Abrahamic Faiths are very strong with the main religious conflict being between the Abrahamics and indigenous folk religions in Africa, the Americas and East Asia, which have all spent the better part of a millennia years being worn away by both Christianity and Islam.

It's back, woo!

Aha don't worry, I won't be leaving you waiting on the 20s too long, in fact it might only be 24 hours or so....

As for the Friends, well:

From the new posts on the test thread it seems the Coup is crypto fascist 🤔 as an aside I think the Friends are Quakers.

Friends are indeed an OTL term for Quakers but they've diverged a lot as a religious movement, as is inevitable when a religion goes from being shared by a few hundred thousand people to tens of millions.

disbanding part of the Military is rather cursed... as is Army control of the Navy.

Latin motto's are cool though.

I suppose the commonwealth navy is rather less impressive than the OTL Royal Navy?

It's less branches of the militaries being disbanded and more replaced as a government is changed, not dissimilar to the Reichswehr becoming the Wehrmacht becoming the Bundeswehr.

Glad you liked the Mottos! The flags were fun to make :)

And yes the FC never reaches the Pax Britannica heights of the OTL Royal Navy, though they're still a first class naval power. Generally Albion and the Netherlands are the top tier Naval Powers through the 18th and 19th centuries and roughly equal in strength. France, Spain, Missippi, Portugal, Parana and the Mughals all come close at various points from ~1700-1928. From the 1930s onwards things die down a bit and whilst the FC is still a first class naval power (alongside the Netherlandish, Mississippian, Huaxian and Gurkhani), most of the Big Nations are generally pretty evenly matched in that regard.

I see, a bit sad (for me at least), but abosultly necessary if the new model Army had blotted its copy book as thoses examples did (given that there was a decade called the "black 20's", it seems likely).

this timeline feels a little to idlyic,
Perhaps a fair criticism though I'd respond in two points:

1) Much of the world is quite dark and worse off than OTL and the next update will show that.
2) It is, in fact, meant to be more pleasant than is realistic and certainly more idyllic than OTL. A long time ago I explained the theory over on my test thread:
(This is basically just me splurging thoughts so please don't expect anything but a horrendously garbled stream of consciousness from this post)

A Kalotopia (from the Ancient Greek words 'καλός/kalós' - meaning noble, beautiful, just, or morally good - and 'τόπος/topia' - meaning place) is a variety of timeline or fictional universse I would like to develop in the future and I'm working on currently in Fear Nothing But God. The general idea of a Kalotopia is to give me an excuse and a motivation to write more uplifting and to try and break the cycle of Alt-Histories developing into dystopic/semi-dystopic miseries or a victory lap for the author's belief system. Many if not most of the Timelines I really really adore (LTTW, Our Fair Country, W3L) end up being darker than our timeline and this is particularly present in mainstream Alt-History, which tends to focus on situations where the "bad guys" win a conflict (often, I notice, with no examination or acknowledgement of the times in OTL history that the "bad guys" won).

A Kalotopia is intended, as the name implies, to be a world better than our own, considerably better than a dystopia and not so outlandish or detached from reality as to be a utopia. Utopias are, by definition and intention, unrealistic and impossible. A Kalotopia, whilst potentially very unlikely, should always be a possible world. In order to develop this, I'm laying out a set of rules for myself.

A Kalotopia should include:
- A more equal and peaceful modern world than OTL
- A global history, which can focus on a specific nation or region of the world but should always have in mind the influecnes of the outside world upon this region and vice-versa
- Ideological variety
- An exploration of alternative "goodness", trying to find ways to create a better world more interesting than "What if the nice people won this election/war/ect".
- A realistic, sensible sequence of historical events.

A Kalotopia may still (and, for accuracy's sake, probably should) include:
- Natural disasters
- Warfare
- Inequality
- Dictatorships, authoritarianism and corrupt rulers
- Discrimination and inequality
- Rises and falls in peace and happiness
- A diverse array of popular and successful philosophies, ideologies, political systems and leaders.

A Kalotopia should avoid:
- Major, global, industrial-scale Genocides such as OTL's Holocaust or the Armenian, Rwandan or Cambodian Genocides, ect
- The creation of purely evil ideologies (such as OTL Fascism/National Socialism), instead emphasising nuanced ideologies that may seem distasteful or wrong but are redeemable/have significant benefits.
- 'Wanks' (which is a term I really hate) of certain nations, ideologies, cultures or faiths
- A simplistic "Whigish" Approach to history with a continuous trend towards freedom, democracy and other nice things.

A Kalotopia is not intended to be fully realistic, ranking somewhere around a Type II on the Sliding Scale of Plausibility. It is however inteded to be an enjoyable, interesting and nuanced world that is pleasant to read and to write, more positive than most and gives a set of rules to encourage more realistic, interesting, nuanced AltHistory. It might be a reality without world wars that muddled through the 20th century with only little skirmishes here and there. It might be a world that butterflied away the Rwandan Genocide or Columbine Killings. It could even be something as small as avoiding the Challenger Disaster and preventing those 7 deaths. Whatever the case, Kalotopias should acknowledge the bad things about OTL, examine the series of events that led to them and plot a different, brighter course.

I plan to add to the list of rules above, to give myself proper constraints and ensure the world I'm trying to build sticks to its initial goals. If anyone is reading this I apologise for the ramble!

I see, a bit sad (for me at least), but abosultly necessary if the new model Army had blotted its copy book as thoses examples did (given that there was a decade called the "black 20's", it seems likely).
It is a shame, particularly because the heritage of the New Model Army was very cool but I realised I was falling into a trap where everything established, no matter how far back, was permanent. The Flag, Constitution, whole political identity of the FC has been frozen since the 1680s and I realised I needed to have history layer more and have things wax and wane much more than I was doing. The Black 20s are quite the damning splotch on the NMA's record, of course.
