"The Marines, they're pulling up in black Ford Raptor Trucks, got the helicopters landing and everything! Ram Ranch is under siege, under lockdown...."
- Final radio transmission from Ram Ranch, December 25, 2017

On November 25, 2017, a state visit to New York by the Duke of Sussex went horribly wrong. As the motorcade made a tight turn, eighteen naked cowboys appeared out of nowhere and rushed the limousine, killing three of the escorts, wounding five and abducting Prince Harry. A national manhunt began, with FBI agents swarming across the Big Apple in a frantic attempt to locate the missing duke and the blue horse trailer that he had pulled into. After nearly forty hours of nothing, an anonymous person tipped off the federal agents, informing them of their suspicions that Grant MacDonald, the leader of a gay sex cult, was responsible for the abduction. Following this lead, the FBI discovered that MacDonald had published a series of manifestos expressing his desire to sodomize the Duke of Sussex. This, combined with a traffic camera sighting of the blue horse trailer in Sussex, Wyoming, on the road to MacDonald's Ram Ranch, was all that was needed for a search warrant to be issued.

FBI agents arrived at Ram Ranch at 1500 hours, November 28, 2017. Attempting to serve their warrant, the agents drove up the road to the complex's front gate. As they paused outside of the gate, a cultist appeared on the wall above them and fired an RPG at the lead vehicle. The resulting explosion killed three agents (Rob Hansen, Aaron Washington and Rachel Donovan) and injured five, sending the survivors fleeing back down the road. The FBI established a perimeter around the complex, sending several snipers to watch the entrances and exits of the compound. At 0300 on December 1, the FBI assaulted the complex. They scaled the outer wall, but were unable to reach the inner wall without alerting a sentry. The cultists opened fire, forcing the FBI to retreat with one dead (William Patel) and four wounded while killing five cultists and injuring a dozen. Two agents were unable to escape and were captured and disarmed by the cultists. Macdonald threatened to execute these agents, Carlos Silva and Anna Wiltshire, if the FBI did not withdraw.

Over the following week, the FBI and the cultists negotiated. One of the chief FBI conditions was the release of Silva and Wiltshire, as well as the Duke of the Sussex. MacDonald demanded national radio broadcast privileges, as he believed that all men in the United States would worship him if they heard his message, as well as the destruction of the London Bridge and an array of other bizarre demands. On 9 December, MacDonald ended negotiations, as he believed that the FBI was wasting his time. Over the next three days, FBI snipers killed four cultists and severely injured several others. Cultist counter-snipers then killed an FBI sniper (Bradford Pewell), which prompted the return the negotiating table. Sniping and counter-sniping continued, killing seven cultists.

The FBI and the cultists then entered into negotiations once again. On 22 December, MacDonald was allowed to broadcast from KDIC, with copies of his manifesto being run on national television. This was seen as a humiliation by the Kasich Administration, who were already dealing with the geopolitical ramifications of Sussex's abduction. On 25 December, a force of United States Marines arrived outside the complex. After a day of preparations, the final assault began at 0600 on 27 December. Five Black Hawk helicopters descended on the compound, landing in the courtyard and on the roof of the main building while dozens of FBI agents assaulted the walls from all directions. MacDonald and his followers fought on, being driven down into the tunnels beneath the building. Two marines, one federal agent and eighteen naked cowboys were killed. At 1026, Marines breached a chamber in an isolated section of the tunnel network, capturing MacDonald and two followers and freeing the hostages. However, four of the cultists were holed up in the lowest rank of the tunnels with several tons of tannerite, threatening to blow themselves up if MacDonald was not free. Government forces evacuated the complex, and after another half-day of negotiations via cell phone the cultists detonated their bombs. Ram Ranch exploded into a massive fireball, with shrapnel wounding several federal agents.

On 1 January 2018, the Duke of Sussex finally returned to the United Kingdom after a harrowing 32-day captivity.

The Defeat of Mexico in the Second Great War has caused its population to become furious. Many saw the government puppets of a now-dead nation of the CSA. This as well as the declining economy spark the Mexican revolutions, where armed republicans launch an open rebellion against the Government. While the army was loyal to Jose II, over time they became dissatisfied, and soon join the rebellion, causing the emperor to surrender. The US had supported the rebellion, hoping to get rid of the last semblance of the Confederates, who the loyalist has sent some troops to aid the Empire. Germany at this point was at a cold war with the US and supported the Mexican Empire.

Lieberman is notable for becoming the first Jewish President of the United States in 2001, and in 2004 he became the first Jewish person to be elected President. By 2004, the main issues were the wars in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Libya, and Sudan.
First, yikes, and second, I am amazed turnout was that high, looking at the two tickets it feels like having to choose between a grey Honda Civic and a silver Toyota Camry.

Bertram is an narrow-gauge tank-tender engine who is currently in service on the Skarloey Railway. He formerly worked on the Festiniog Railway and later worked on both the Mid Sodor Railway and the Sodor Gold Company. After the gold mine shut down in 1946 and shortly afterwards the Mid Sodor did as well, Bertram was left abandoned at the former mine for over 30 years until being rediscovered in 1979. He was then restored and put back into service.

Bertram is often nicknamed the "Old Warrior" by the railway staff because of his bravery. [1]

Bio

Bertram was built at Boston Lodge by George England in Minffordd, Wales in 1880. As a result, he was the eighth and final Ffestiniog Railway 0-4-0TT (England Class) locomotive to be built. Bertram would work on the Ffestiniog Railway for a 20 year period before being sold to the Island of Sodor to work at the Sodor Gold Mine on the Mid Sodor Railway. There, he was regauged from the 1 foot 11 1⁄2 inches (597 mm) rail gauge to the 2 feet 3 inches (686 mm) rail gauge.[2]

Bertram would work at both the mine and on the railway until 1 August 1946 when the Sodor Gold Mine shut down after the gold supply ran out. Five months later, the Mid Sodor Railway would close down as well to to the flooding of its last operating mine as well as a decline in mineral traffic. [3] He would be left abandoned at the former gold mine and would sit there for about 33 years.

During the Summer of 1979 while on vacation with his grandchildren, Sir Charles Topham Hatt (1914-1997) would visit the ruins of the gold mine and would announce they would be fixed up to accommodate visitors to Sodor. Shortly before the restoration began, Bertram would be rediscovered by NWR #7 Toby, his crew and a signalman. [4]

Bertram's rediscovery would rock the island and he would soon be brought to Crovan's Gate Works for restoration. Despite the fact that he had be stored outside in an open shed for over three decades, Bertram was still be in decent shape. Along with the fact that workers would use his brother Duke for measurement references, Bertram's restoration was quickly completed in just under a year.

In the Summer of 1980, Bertram's restoration was completed and officially became part of the Skarloey Railway. The former gold mine was turned into a fair ground to bring visitors. Bertram would usually pull passenger trains at the fair grounds during the summer months and then pull normal goods and passenger trains during the winter months when the fair grounds are closed for the season. Other engines would also be brought to the mine fair grounds to help.[5] The mine fair grounds are now the only portion of the former Mid Sodor Railway to be brought up by the Skarloey Railway, with most other sections of the former railway either becoming part of the Arlesdale Railway, being converted to roads or scenic foot/bicycle paths, or being left to nature.[6]

As of 2021, Bertram is still in service on the Skarloey Railway.

a signalman tells Toby this at the end of the episode after discovering Bertram.
[2]: This explains why Bertram (whose basis, the Festiniog Railway 0-4-0TT "Large England Class" was built to the 1 foot 11 1⁄2 inches (597 mm) rail gauge) can operate on the 2 feet 3 inches (686 mm) gauges of both the Mid Sodor and Skarloey Railways.

Bertram is discovered at the mine at the end of the episode.
[5]:Ibid: At the end of the episode, Skarloey and Rheneas also shown working at the mine fair grounds. I should note that the former mine on the 2014 TV series map (which is not 100% accurate, but still) is said to be located near Ffarquhar Road and Tidmouth Bay. However there are no Skarloey Railway tracks leading here. As a result, it is likely that Skarloey and Rheneas would've gotten get to the mine via flatbed on the standard gauge line of the North Western Railway or would've be transported by lorry/truck on the road.

In The Railway Series Book 22: Small Railway Engines (1967), the 15 inch guage (381 milimeters) Arlesdale Railway is shown to have recently started operating in the year the book is set in (1967). The Arlesdale Railway runs for about 10 miles (16.0934 kilometers) on part of the former Mid Sodor Railway, which closed down in 1947. The Thomas & Friends Wiki mentions on the Mid Sodor Railway article that most of the former Mid Sodor Railway trackbed that was not used for the Arlesdale Railway was converted into roads and scenic footpaths.

First, yikes, and second, I am amazed turnout was that high, looking at the two tickets it feels like having to choose between a grey Honda Civic and a silver Toyota Camry.

I'm going off on the 2016/2020 principle of "heightened tensions and distaste for the other guy's nominee leads to decent turnout."

Also, consider two more things:

1.) The massive death toll of 9/11 ittl, which includes not just far more people in New York, but also the President.

2.) The backlash to the two wars in otl, and how many more places we have boots on the ground.

I was looking at the various historical political parties within the United States and thought that (along with almost every historical political party having representation in the legislature) what if that there was a semi-electoral threshold (at least in the house) in place that guaranteed a bare minimum of seats per party (based purely off the original 13 colonies) while keeping the House at the same numbers as OTL?

The birth of the modern Congress can be traced back to the impatient actions of President Andrew Johnson. Regarded as a radical republican, he refused to compromise with the House of Burgess's more moderate "doughboys" headed by former President turned Speaker of the House James Buchanan. Contention sparks between Buchanan and Johnson with Johnson proclaiming the slaves to be freed throughout the south, powers that the House argued lied within the legislative rather than the executive branch to grant a sweeping decision. Johnson ignores this and asks the Supreme Court to intervene, which they eventually do and come to the concurrence with Johnson. The House of Burgess then angrily attempts to impeach the president, Johnson then countermands this order and formally declares the House to be an "unlawful assembly" in 1866, demanding that General Tecumseh Sherman disband the assembly and call for new elections. Violence spills out onto the streets in the Republican Revolution, which sees the House of Burgesses flee to Richmond while President Johnson organizes new elections for a House of Representatives and a Senate.

Following a brief civil war and him overseeing reconstruction, the new legislature settles into it's place as the primary legislative body for the United States passing landmark civil rights legislations and constitutional amendments throughout the late 19th century. The former political parties that once made up the House of Burgess, the Democratic-Republicans, Federalists, Know Nothings, Nullifier and Anti-Nebraska all take their places with their constitutionally guaranteed 13 seats within the House as victories for fair party representation.
In the Senate, the Democratic-Republican parties opt not to run, instead supporting the Pro-Administration/Anti-Administration parties.

The 29 non-voting delegates are comprised of:
3 from the District of Colombia (2 shadow senators and 1 shadow representative)
12 representatives from each of the 12 federally recognized "major tribes" (sort of what the Maine House does in OTL)
8 for major corporations according to their score on the NYSE, with them formally being elected upon midnight on election day. While the corporation representatives don't have the power to vote constitutionally, a supreme court ruling said that the corporation representatives had the power to vote only on legislation that did not have a conflict of interest.

a - Impeached and removed from office.
b - Died of natural causes.
c - Assassinated.
d - It was discovered after Xenopol's death that his commonly-known birthdate of March 23, 1844 was incorrect, possible due to a transcription error. This meant that he was actually constitutionally ineligible for the Presidency or Vice Presidency when he took office, due to not being 35. It is not known if Xenopol was aware of this.
e - Resigned.

Main article: 2052 United States presidential election

The 2052 United States presidential election in California was held on November 5, 2052, as part of the 2052 United States presidential election. California voters chose electors to represent them in the Electoral College via a popular vote pitting National Republican Party nominee Sunny Calliope against Democratic Party nominee Suraj Patel.

Sunny Calliope won the state by a larger-than anticipated 4.1% margin. This was due to increased support among Latino voters in the state, particularly in Los Angeles County, where he managed to bring the Democratic vote total under 60 percent for the first time since 1996. Another factor in his victory in the state was due to increased support from the many tech workers and programmers in the state.

California, as well as other Rust Coast states, have been one of the most reliably blue states in the nation since 1992. However, economic unrest and stagnation in the Rust Coast allowed for Sunny Calliope to make inroads in the region, flipping California and Oregon. Computer programmers and technology workers, a once reliably-Democratic voting block had shifted towards the Republicans due to the outsourcing of many technology jobs overseas.

This election was the first time since 1988 in which California voted for the Republican candidate, and Calliope's victory nationwide made him the first Californian to be elected President of the United States since Ronald Reagan. As well, he became the first Republican to win Solano since 1984, the first Republican to win Sacramento since 1988, and the first to win San Joaquin and San Diego since 2004.

IN THE COMPANY OF MY PEERS
From List of U.K. Prime Ministers 1945 - 20201971 UK TL.png

The 1971 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday 17 June 1971. It resulted in an expected victory for the Conservative Party under leader Quintin Hogg, which defeated the governing Labour Party under Tony Benn. The Liberal Party, under its new leader Philip Rea, lost half its seats. This was the first election since 1935 in which the leaders of both major parties came from the House of Commons, although both Hogg and Benn had renounced their Peerage.

Benn was the third Labour Prime Minister since their win in 1966, after the forced retirement of Lord Pakenham and the death of Lord Attlee. Most opinion polls prior to the election indicated a comfortable Conservative victory, and put Conservatives up to 12.4% ahead of Labour. Benn however ran a strong campaign and was widely praised for minimising Labour's losses and he decided to stay on in the Commons despite calls for him to be elevated back to the Lords.

OOC: This is the laziest type of Wikibox edit, in which the 1970 box was edited to put in new leaders and change a few dates.

Despite the near-impenetrable gridlock characteristic of the Sixth Party System the Presidency of Pierre Salinger had been a comparatively productive one. He successfully negotiated an end to nuclear testing, expanded protections for conscientious objectors, and although his efforts at assembling a multipartisan civil rights caucus floundered, his impassioned calls for civil rights have become classics of American oratory. But failures abounded: America remained devoid of Social Security, jobs, and hope. Salinger did not lose because he failed to solve the problems, he lost because he acknowledged them. Walker's Patriot Party was a patchwork of state-level conservative parties whose dysfunctionality was papered over by fevered jingoism. It was a resounding defeat for progressive forces, but unknown to them and to all, the consequences of Carto's constitutional crisis would give them a break.
