I see your Marylin and counter with Mark Hamil...

trickster_e3.jpg

Mark Hamill as The Joker from 1995 Batman Rising. At the time of its release, many comics fans were upset over the decision to change the jokers classic look. Mark Hamill himself would come out and defend the changes, saying that they were intended as a homage to the 1928 classic The Man Who Laughs, widely believed to be the inspiration for the Joker.

(From an earlier post about alternate casting for Batman in the Blue Skies in Camelot thread)
I see your Mark Hamill and raise you Willem Defoe:

The Joker(s), Two Face, and Riddler

Jim Carrey as the Joker from Tim Burton’s 1989 classic, Batman Begins.

The role for Joker in Batman Begins initially went to Jack Nicholson, but when Nicholson lost interest in the project Carrey (the runner up) got the part.

Willem Dafoe as the Joker in the gripping Batman live-action series, Caped Crusader (1990-1998).

Both Dafoe and Carrey would be hailed by fans as the best Jokers (often times there are arguments between Carrey fans and Dafoe fans as to who is the better Joker, who is the definitive Joker). Later on, Tim Curry would join Carrey and Dafoe as one of the most popular and recognisable Jokers by lending his voice to the Clown Prince of Crime in Batman the Animated Series (2005-2011).

Billy Dee Williams as Gotham District Attorney Harvey Dent from Caped Crusader.

Four years later in 2002, Williams would take up the persona of Harvey Dent and Two Face once more in Tim Burton’s Batman Forever and teamed up with the Riddler (played by Robin Williams). The villainous duo would go up against Batman (played by Michael Keaton) and Catwoman (played by Michelle Pfeiffer).

I think Dafoe's face is almost perfect for the Joker but he is a bit short for the role IMO. Carrey on the other hand is pretty tall and has the right shape face too, a fairly long shin.
Pity neither actor got to play the part and IMHO no actor has really captured the role, a few have come close but there was always something off physically or acting wise.

This would be Kurt's last concert before going to rehab, where he would write a majority of the album "Boddah".

Agreed and poor Robin wanted to be the Joker so badly but never got the chance. :(

The Kalten Krieg: First Phase
(1957-1962)

images - 2020-06-29T112037.979.jpeg

Vanguard 1, the first satellite in space. The launching of the satellite kick-started the Kalten Krieg's "First Phase" and "Wave 1" of the Space Race, between America and Germany. Vanguard 1's success was a double achievement. Not only it was the first satellite, it was also the world's first solar powered satellite, and it proved that solar panels are reliable and solar power itself can be harnessed and sustained in space. This stunning achievement put a straint of embarrassment to the Germans, as they invented rockets first but failed to use them first. This would begin the "Vanguard Crisis", lasting until the first German satellite was launched. The satellite was launched on a modified SM-57 Marksman ICBM, operated by the National American Space Organization (NASO), in conjunction with the Armed Forces Missile Corps in December 1957.

Deutschland 1, the first German satellite in space. It was launched 2 months after Vanguard, and around 5 days after Vanguard 2, the first artificial object to bring an animal into space, a Mongrel picked up from the streets of Atlanta named "Butch". Although he was not brought back alive, the launching of Butch into space proved that animals can survive in space, as long as they have a habitable space to stay in. Deutschland 1 is the world's first weather satellite and the first satellite to detect the Blücher Radiation Belts. Although it lagged behind, this launch boosted morale in Germany and proved that the Germans still has launch capabilities. It also took the first photo of a weather disturbance from space; Cyclone Marita off the Brazilian coast.

The Mercury-Redstone Launch Vehicle is the first rocket to have manned flight capabilities. It is notable for launching Alan Shepard, the first man in space, on April 8 1961. Apart from being the first man, it was also the first manually controlled flight and the first time a manned spacecraft reached Orbit and successfully orbited Earth 20 times. This was another embarrassing blow to Berlin and the German Space Agency, and another success for NASO. With this achievement, American morale stood high and there was sense of Patriotism and Nationalism. Shepard's flight was called "Freedom 7".

Vanguard_rocket_vanguard1_satellite.jpg

The Braun-Agregat Launch Vehicle was Germany's first rocket to have manned flight capabilities. It launched Berlin's first Reichnaut, Erich Von Stuben, into space, aboard the Führer 9 flight. It was used by the German Space Agency from 1962-1967, when it was replaced by the much more improved variant, the Agregat Mk V. It gets its name from the Braun Capsule and Service Module (that housed the astronaut) and the modified Agregat 15 ICBM that was merged together. It would become the trademark German rocket launch system even until today.
