It all depends on when Charles Died.

If he died early... HRE could be delayed by decades or centuries

If he died say before Pepin's Revoult -> this could lead to a power struggle between Charles's other children and wives leading to a fracturing of his empire. HRE is delayed by decades. Viking Invasions early?

If he died say a month after coronation -> Louis the Pious becomes Emperor -> HRE exists.
