China probably wouldn’t have collapsed on its own weight and started the second warlord era (giving Japan the chance of becoming Asia’s premier power again, with the satellite dynasties and republics) and Korea wouldn’t be united.

The invasion was meant to show that China was still stable after the uprisings in the 1970s and early 1980s, but the defeat was not a show of stability of prosperity but instead broke the camel’s back

China’s population would probably still be the largest, as around a third of the population died in the war (urban warfare and a small nuclear conflict do that)

Rarely does an empire of that size go away quickly. It is generally believed that the leaders of the Old USSR had observed from the experiences of China and sought to avoid another round of crises, and were willing to reduce their own empires to achieve that.

yeah, disbanding the Warsaw Pact in favor of more democratically-minded, and much more egalitarian Communist Internationale is definitely one hell of a masterstroke, despite the Soviet Union reduced themselves to only the Crimea Special Region, and Russian SSR is theoretically independent.

But what matter is, most of the SSRs are still Democratic Communist Countries.
