A World of Tumbleweed & Rice

In a world where the South gets what they want (Southern California, Kansas, Missouri etc.) Due to a lack of railway transportation and funding by the North, the American Civil waris butterflied, replacing it is an American Warlord era, which goes from the early 1890s to the 1900s. Eventually, the south would collapse under their conglomerate alliance for a reunification of America, eventually resulting in the Chicago government to gain power, which is radically anti-communist. Throughout all of this, major European countries managed to capture and connect concessions across the American coastline and american lands, with New Orleans and New york being the last remaining concessions. The New African Socialist Council Republic (NASCR) eventually managed to take over most of hispaniola and primarily black regions, as a period of industrialization and deportation of whites would begin. Ironically, the North is much more racist than before, due to the red scare and the influx of Southerners fleeing up north, causing a truly American Cold war.

tl;dr: north america is asia of the cold war (green america= india/america , red america= china)

A very quick scenario I made to rest from finals and warm up to write my other TLs like Pachamama Awakens. Pulled it together on a couple hours from an old abandoned map so don't expect too much.

Unthinkable:

Basically, Wiston Churchill goes ahead with Operation Unthinkable in 1946.

Things go VERY bad for the Allies. Morale drops below the floor as soldiers are asked to fight yet ANOTHER war, this time against their former allies and with Nazis at their side. The logistic train never reaches far beyond Poland, even with all the resources of the US and the British Empire. Not even the power of the atomic bomb was able to stop the Soviet steamroller (not that the Allies could have consistent air superiority anyways), and the waves of deserting soldiers and uncooperative civilians unwilling to fight another war. In fact, the mere proposal of bombing Paris as the Soviets advanced broke down the US-UK alliance, and soon, the United Nations started their long and painful retreat from Europe.

On the other side of the curtain, an enraged Stalin orders the Red Army to "Not to stop until you plant a red flag over Gibraltar Rock".

Only two years later, his words become reality, as partisans of the Iberian People's Republic take over the besieged British garrison.

It is 1955 today. The USSR is the undisputed master of Europe.

While the Red Army also experienced desertion and mutinies, the unwillingless of the Soviets to bear yet ANOTHER Nazi invasion took them all the way to the Atlantic shores, assisted by communist partisans on the way. Eastern Europe was annexed, with only a note of protest from the United Nations. Germany was also annexed and dismantled; Stalin took a cue from Roosvelt and divided it on several states, but as far as the Soviet Union is concerned, Germany no longer exists or will ever exist again as a nation; instead, education there forces the identity of Bavaria, Saxony, Rhineland, Hannover, Brandenburg..., and most importantly, an absolute hate of Fascism, love for peaceful agrarian living, and a sense of duty to the Soviet Union. Or else. The rest of Europe retains a nominal independence, though it's difficult to say that with Red Army garrisons in every capital. The Soviet Union has imposed taxing reparations from most of its conquered territories, and Stalin has consolidated power to a terrifying degree. Relations with the West are completely frozen; as far as Stalin is (or rather, was) concerned, the United Nations are a fascicapitalist alliance plotting for the fall of the USSR. Soviet citizens are taught so, too. The most brutal decisions have been taken with that mentality.

The United Nations almost dissolved after Unthinkable, and just saying the name "Winston Churchill" provokes bar fights everywhere in the Anglosphere. However, at the end they stayed together out of fear of the Soviet juggernaut. The United States, with the largest remaining army and navy, provide most of its military muscle and economic power. UN protectorates have been established on the former colonies of occupied Europe, and it retains bastions in the Mediterranean, much to the lacking Soviet Navy's frustration. In Asia, the USA has cobbled together a United States of Asia from Japan, South Korea, the Philipines and the Republic of China, which retains Hainan. Something of a phyrric victory, of course, and Soviet propagandists are quick to call it a revived Japanese Empire. The USA has a cold alliance with the UK and France. The UK, of course, dropped the ball so hard that US generals see little reason to help them prop their falling empire, beyond the need of cooperation against a common empire. Free France still clings to the fantasy of returning to the mainland, and while the US is more sympathetic towards them, but they can't ignore the fact that their colonial subjects aren't very willing to being governed from a phantom Paris anymore.

The Third World is quickly becoming independent, no matter what the goverments in exile might want. India and the Middle East aren't very friendly to the United Nations, being members only in principle: India has deep sectarian issues, but sees itself as an emerging power, mobilizing its huge population towards industralization. Poor Turkey is stuck in a situation similar to Finland OTL; too hard for the Soviets to conquer, but basically surrounded by them. Israel and Palestine are still dealing with their painful partition. The US looks towards the conservative governments and dictatorships of Latin America for more "reliable allies", but not all are convinced, and Argentina and Brazil wish to persue armed neutrality. The colonies in Africa and Southeast Asia seem to become the next battleground in this Cold War.

Not that the USSR has it any better. It has created one of the largest empires of history, covering countless nationalities, in just a few short years, and has kept it together by force of arms, repression, and political indoctrination. From uprisings in Iran to tensions in Korea to unruly European allies and of course the big Panda Bear in the room that is China, something is gotta give one of these days...

And just a few hours ago, Stalin was pronounced dead...
Someone has to adapt this to a film/video game. I love it!!

It would be neat to see how a post-communist Europe would recover.

The Red Dragon Awoken

China is a sleeping giant. Let her sleep, for when she wakes she will move the world.

Oh, what's this? The incredibly weird (insert country here)-wank series is back? That's right! Here we have China and the world that surrounds it; at this point, the nation no longer sees it fit to call itself the "Middle Kingdom" because of how goddamn big it is. I don't really have a particular POD in mind. The scenario is just your average "the West never rises, China stays on top of things" timeline, except China stays really on top of things and annexes or influences 90% of the world's countries. Today, the Empire of Zhonghua dominates the globe, and its close allies (read: puppets) of Nihon, Siam, India, Persia, Java, Greater Britannia, Rus'ia, Egypt, and its former colonies in the Americas hold the Earth within the palm of their hand.

A special thanks to @XFE. I shamelessly lifted most of this color scheme from one of his maps (Old Games, New Players) and took more than a little inspiration on some of China proper's internal borders (because I am hopelessly uninitiated in the ways of Chinese history before the Qing dynasty).

Also, I sadly don't have a write-up yet. Those Martian and Lunar borders took a pain to create, but the product was worth it.

United Kingdom of New Hesse (Something's Not Right)

The first of the individual nation descriptions/maps for Something's Not Right! I'm not sure which country I want to do next, but I was thinking either the USA or Great Catalonia, since the current plan is to do all the major countries first.

The United Kingdom of New Hesse, commonly known as New Hesse, is a sovereign country located in southern Africa. New Hesse is a constitutional monarchy under a unitary parliamentary democracy. The current monarch is Simon I, who has reigned since 189 and is known mainly for his controversial support of the elimination of the House of Lords. His son and presumptive heir to the throne, Prince Jordan, has also attracted no small amount of controversy for his support for social liberalism, transhumanism, and anti-capitalism, which has made him somewhat of a global liberal icon. Its capital is Cassel, which is also the oldest city in New Hesse, a major cosmopolitan financial and media center in the global south with a population of almost four million. Other major cities include Greenwood, Zagreb, Caerdydd, Bucurest, Denver, and Sunbury.

New Hesse was initially formed in 19 as a loose confederation of German and German-American townships (the majority of the former were Hessian, which was the reason for the name "New Hesse") most likely from between Origin Years 1700-1800 for the former and OY 1920-1930 for the latter. The appearance of British soldiers and townships in New Hesse in 24 (OY 1914-1919) eventually led to the formation of the United Kingdom of New Hesse as a constitutional monarchy modeled after Origin Timeline's United Kingdom, with a British man who claimed to be related to the monarchy crowned as King Charles I. New Hesse expanded outwards relatively peacefully for the next few decades, but quickly came into conflict with African-American settlements around it (OY 1876-1929), which led to several scattered wars until the signing of the Greenwood Agreements in 56, under which the settlements would be integrated into New Hesse with the promise of equal rights and guaranteed citizenship. It was also around this time that New Hesse formed an alliance with the Sultanate of Andalusia, which persists as one of the oldest alliances in the world to this day. Tensions with the Socialist Republic of Romania and the Republic of Croatia eventually boiled over into war in 84, ending in 89 with the total annexation of both countries into New Hesse and their division into several occupied territories, which would under the terms of the Treaty of Cordoba be admitted as full provinces in no less than fifteen years. A breakneck program of New Hessianization in the occupied territories, designated as the Croat Occupation Zone and Romanian Occupation Zone, would see the Romanian and Croatian territories stripped of much of their original culture and replaced with the hybrid German-American-English culture of New Hesse, with little more than some cultural practices and regional accents remaining in the modern day, though there has been a recent revival of the two languages as independence movements grow increasingly popular. The forced New Hessianization of the two countries is looked back on as one of the darkest hours of New Hesse, and King Simon has since officially acknowledged and issued reparations for the cultural genocides. New Hesse was drawn into the East African War after a joint Japonic-Welsh declaration of war on Andalusia and annexed most of the Walesreich, later annexing the rest of it and gaining territorial claims on some lands to its north and the island of Madagascar in the Treaty of Aleppo. (As the Welsh provinces were already somewhat Anglicized, they were spared the same cultural genocide as Croatia and Romania.) In the aftermath of the East African War, New Hesse pursued a mostly isolationist foreign policy and temporarily became a dominant-party state under the Conservative Worker's Union Party, focusing primarily on domestic affairs such as improving racial tensions and expanding the New Hessian welfare state, and though tensions with the Carteldom of Nueva Mexico led to several proxy wars in the Japonic kingdoms, most of these were bankrolled by Venetsuela. During the colonization of Madagascar, the Kabiye, Yolngu, and Ngandi peoples who already lived there (OY unknown pre-colonial) were initially annexed as part of the Madagascar Territory, but they were later split off as autonomous regions during the last years of the rule of King Brian. This was also around the time when the New Hessian monarchy gained its obsession with dragon imagery, with Queen Sandra commissioning massive tapestries and murals of the royal family depicted as western-style dragons and adding the Welsh dragon to the flag, and this obsession quickly leaked into the rest of the New Hessian populace. To this day, clothing designed to make the wearer appear to have some dragon traits is still popular among the New Hessian middle and lower classes, and every member of the royal family is, in the eyes of New Hessian law, a "human embodiment of a dragon," whatever that's supposed to mean.

After the assassination of King Brian in 189 by a Croatian nationalist, his son Simon took the throne and quickly became a controversial figure both for approving of rolling back the welfare state as the CWU's domination of New Hessian politics began to slip and for supporting the abolition the House of Lords, earning him the ire of both the New Hessian left and right (though he later moderated on economic policies). Simon I's reign also saw the continuation of the liberal reforms his father had begun in his last years, officially recognizing NE genders [1] for any New Hessian citizens who could provide proof of at least one grandparent being from the culture they wanted to be legally seen as a gender from and legalizing gay marriage nationwide. Despite repeated diplomatic overtures from the more culturally conservative monarchist bloc led by New Horsham and Maryland-Aquitania, which New Hesse had enjoyed favorable relations with during the reign of Brian I, King Simon and Prime Minister Patton Ruljancic steered the country away from them and towards the United States and Great Catalonia, seeing them as more stable and less authoritarian, with New Hesse formally entering the Democratic Alliance in 191. The modern New Hesse is a stable liberal constitutional monarchy and a regional power in Africa, with its major current issues being the Croatian and Romanian Liberation movements arguing for autonomy or independence, the royal family's escalating controversy both at home and abroad, and the rising popularity of transhumanism.

[1] TTL's umbrella term for third/fourth/etc. genders originating in non-European cultures.

First of all, welcome. Always nice to get some fresh new people on the site.
Second, I don't think anyone cares that much if you use a specific color scheme or not. It can be useful, but it does get kind of repetitive, so it's actually kind of nice to see different colors every once in a while.
Third, and finally, what's going on with all of the former British colonies? India, I'm assuming was forcibly taken away or revolted after seeing the British lose. Is Bangladesh still British, Independent, or a dominion? What's going on with South Africa? Independent? British Influenced? German Influenced? Syndicalist?
Thank you,
I've made a better partition of India and recoloured SAF:
kaiserreich1.jpg

Bengal is more of a rump state ruled by a white minority (such as Rhodesia in the 70s).
South Africa is an independent state under german influence, that maintains its segregationist policies.
By the way, the independent Boer States are not under german influence beacause of the friendship between the Netherlands and Germany.

Hey man looking great for a first map. A couple pointers, the map you are using is quite old. If you use the ones found here. They will look a lot better. The newer maps have alot better projections. The plus side is that link also has a lot of historical maps you can patch in so for example your Soviet Influenced Manchuria will have the correct area(look at 1914).
Most of your borders look pretty great(except your Arabia could use a little cleaning up).

I’m just surprised people are still even finding the old, terrible BAMs. Are they hosted in a list above the new ones, and therefore people grab the first thing they see? Been a while since I’ve seen those Falklands, is all.
If you want to make your eyes twitch like me look where Hawaii is
