French Corsairs

What if these French Vessels had suffered different fates

What if Surcouf reached Sydney and had been used against Japanese convoys

Hms Fidelity is definitely underused in alt history . She is a sort of Merchant Raider , Commando Carrier , Privateer and if you invented the concept would probably end up in ASB

I am sure that Surcouf was used as a large blockade runner in Festers story

As for Fidelity she was not particularly 'special' - a modified 10 knot tramp.

True but , fairly unique on Allied side in WW2 . Plus her back story seems fairly interesting and her crew characters although not sure how much I can trust the book by Marcel Julian

Oh certainly - for example there will never be a 'T' company in the Royal Marines as a result of her loss (All of the 55 marines of T coy was lost when she sunk) - what I mean is the the ship itself was unexceptional and only became Fidelity because she was available and not owned by anyone (having been turned over by the French to the RN in 1940).

would think the Surcouf effective since it had long range for sustained operations? not sure about those huge main guns? (for a role as raider)

I put the strange french submarine in mine, it shelled a few Japanese coastal installations on the home islands.
