Liberation Square by Gareth Rubin

Just read this over the course of three days.
It is set in an alternate London of 1952.
The main POD is that Soviet/Nazi pact of 1939 holds and Hitler doesn't invade Russia in 1941. The US stays out of the war in Europe.
The British and Commonwealth forces launch D-Day in June 1944 but it totally fails as most troops are killed or captured. On August 29th 1944 Germany executes "Operation Kestrel" the invasion of Britain. The following day the Royal Family escapes to Northern Ireland. On October 16th Britain capitulates. Winston Churchill is persuaded to join the Royal Family, now fleeing to Canada, so that he can direct the resistance to the Nazi occupation.
On March 11th 1945, the Soviet Union breaks the Nazi/Soviet Pact and invades Western Europe. A force of twelve million men sweeps through Poland and into Germany, cutting through the badly overextended German forces.
On November 18th 1945, Soviet forces from the "Archangel" steams up the Thames and lands troops in central London. Over the course of the following six weeks Soviet forces move slowly through the country mopping up German troops and Nazi sympathizers. On December 29th 1945, United States enters the war, and US troops along with the remnants of the British armed forces led by Churchill land in Liverpool and move quickly to occupy the north of England, Wales and Scotland. US Airborne forces are dropped on the major cities in the Midlands to secure them ahead of the Soviets moving up from the south.
On January 18th 1946, the Royal Family leave Canada for Scotland.
June 8th 1946, an agreement is reached between the British and the Soviets to devide the country in two. There is a separate division of London. The Soviets declare the birth of the "Republic of Great Britain", to be ruled by Anthony Blunt. The border runs from the Bristol channel just north of Bristol across country to Oxford and then bending across to the Wash. The rest of the country becomes the "Democratic United Kingdom".
In London on August 1st 1946 a fence is built to surround the DUK sector of London, which soon becomes a wall.
The Capital City of the DUK is Edinburgh, whilst Churchill is based in London at Winfield House in Regents Park. The "London Wall" runs through the centre of London along the Thames, Westminster Bridge has been destroyed, Check Point Charlie is placed in Piccadilly Circus. With the wall running up Regent Street.

As for the story it is told in the first person and involves a murder in the "Republican Zone" of London.
