Photos from 1983: Doomsday

Can't wait to see what post-Doomsday New York City looks like.

Also, do children watch SpongeBob SquarePants ITTL?

Can't wait to see what post-Doomsday New York City looks like.

New York City and the surrounding metro is full of craters. Majority of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, and New Jersey has sunken into the bay itself with remnant structures protruding out of the water. It won't be habitable for a century or so and may never even be rebuilt judging by the amount of radioactive ruble around the waterways and the bay. There is so signs of life. It would look like this:

Also, do children watch SpongeBob SquarePants ITTL?

Spongebob SquarePants is butterflied away since the Stephen Hillenburg and majority of the cast are assumed to have been killed. Even if some of them survived, Hillenburg was behind the creation of everything and with so much chaos and butterflies, it may never see the light.

I believe it was said there's nothing but an enlarged bay where New York was, outside of the very right fringes of Queens.

Yep and to quote the wiki article:

"Subsequent official expeditions by the Outer Lands Coast Guard in 2005 and 2009 reported that much of Manhattan Island itself no longer existed, the bombed portions covered up by the Hudson River and Upper New York Bay. Land area belonging to old Brooklyn also was covered up by water. No recognizable landmarks were noted.

That particular part of the reports have been disputed by scientists who argue that only a massive ground burst could have caused Manhattan Island to sink. While it may be possible that parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn are flooded, the land is still there, albeit in a ruined state.

All official and private expeditions have been done by sea, and from a considerable distance; only a direct flight over, or expeditions directly into, the area would determine once and for all the extent of damage to the five boroughs and surrounding regions.

Portions of adjacent New Jersey, New York state and Long Island directly explored by private or official expeditions had only irradiated, scarred, destroyed land to speak for its current condition.

The closest active towns with recognizable landmarks, forests, trees and signs of active human life are to be found in Torrington, Vermont (located in the former U.S. state of Connecticut); southeastern New York state; and the former town of Vineland in southern New Jersey, where the nation of Delmarva has commenced resettlement efforts.

The League of Nations estimates that repopulation of the area could occur no earlier than 2060, based on conjecture. As of September 2011, mainly because of concerns regarding lethal radioactivity in the region, no known military or exploratory flights had been made over New York City. Air reconnaissance, along with further exploration and testing to determine the types of bursts in New York City and the level of radioactivity remaining there, would help determine if, and when, salvage and clean-up work could begin.

An abandoned big box store in Dundalk MD circa 2004. It was far enough away from Baltimore to avoid blast damage but fell in disrepair after the local population either fled or died from radiation. Plants are noticeably absent due to the irradiation of the local area immediately after Doomsday though by the time this photo was taken it had decayed to safe levels.

A screenshot from an animated children's series airing on ANZC television called Wallo's Wacky World. The series consists of the pictured anthropomorphic Wallaby and his friends (an anthropomorphic Dingo and a Kiwi) in their day to day lives in a surreal parody of modern ANZC. The show premiered in 2015 and is still airing today as well as becoming a huge pop culture icon in ANZC, it also has a Portuguese dub airing in Brazil and a Filipino dub is being developed for the ANZC foreign transmissions in the Philippines.

So this is Rocko's Modern Life ATL equivalent? Nice one.

I figured since he’s a wallaby and OTL Australian cartoons often revolve around Australian animals it could work. I took a screen shot from the pilot so the art style could look different enough and given Doomsday’s effect on technology 2015 to now would probably be like the 90s for ANZC.

Would make a lot of sense. Also, we could probably have analogues of today's TV shows seen in Disney Channel, WB Kids, and Cartoon Network. At the time of Doomsday, on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel were the famous kids TV channel as Cartoon Network was not launched until OTL 1995, meaning it is butterflied away in this TL after the destruction of CNN.

Of course I think the former two were only located in North America in 1983. Cartoon Network actually launched in 1992 but it would still be butterflied away. I could see ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) making a kids channel offshoot in ANZC.

The famous ANZC children's band "The Wiggles" performing a concert in 1999.

Founded in 1991 they pioneered the post doomsday children's entertainment industry and were even a huge success with their albums. They even performed on TV a few times in the early 2000s, though that signaled the peak of their popularity because waning album sales lead them to disband in 2006. That and one of the members, former Sydney native Greg Page, developed cancer due to radiation he was exposed to as a result of surviving the nuclear attack on Sydney. He died from the cancer in 2008.

ABC Kids, launched in 2012, started as the definitive kids cartoon channel in the post doomsday world. It started by airing reruns of recovered episodes of pre-Doomsday cartoons that the American diaspora brought over like Inspector Gadget, The Smurfs, Super Friends, and more. In 2015 it decided to retool itself and feature original programming starting with Wallo's Wacky World and launched a whole original block the next year. It is available in ANZC, The Philippines, and will launch in New Britain sometime in 2020. Other main programming includes the following:

Skippy Adventures in Bushtown (2016-Present)

Blinky Bill (2016-Present)

Gloria's House (2018-Presnet)

Crocadoo (2019-Present)

Upcoming programming includes:
Stickin' Around, a show in the style of childhood drawings. It's also going to be the first show made by American diaspora in ANZC. (Premiering Spring* 2019)
Koala Brothers, the first stop motion show for the network. (Premiering in 2020)
A currently untitled show about a Bond-Esque platypus spy. (Premiering in 2020)

*Southern Hemisphere Spring, which is September-November
