The Yankee Dominion: A Map and World Building Project

As I've said before, I'm not going to exercise my veto power unless absolutely necessary, but I have some ideas for Hawaii. I feel it's too big a region to fit into the Pacific Federation because of the high population, economic power, and history. I'd think in this universe they'd probably be their own nation. Plus their geographic position has them a bit far off from the other islands of the Federation if I recall correctly (I could be wrong here).

What if we had Hawaii as an independent nation with the Hawaiian monarchy still intact? Possibly within the British sphere of influence?

That would be interesting, close allies to the pacific federation, america and probably Aoteroa and New Wessex (mainly due to proximity).

What do you guys think the status of worldwide international organizations would be ittl? Obviously with a German Victory and no President Wilson there is no Leauge of nations and no Second Great War will also mean there would be no United Nations. Is there just going to be regoinal alliances?

Good question!

Political Parties of Germany:

Major Parties:
Centre [Government Party] 226/710 in Reichstag
Centre-Right (Christan Democracy, Liberal Conservatism)

A Major Party in the Reichstag since the 1870s. A supporter of European co-operation and further federalism within Mittleropua as well as co-operation with the Latin Union. Won power in 2011 after the SDP became unpopular after being in power for 12 years. Government remains somewhat popular after 9 years although chancellor Friedrich Merz's popularity has consistently dropped since the 2017 election.

SDP [Opposition] 148/710 in Reichstag
Centre-Left (Social Democracy)

The oldest operating party in Germany. The SDP was formed in 1863. Party advocates for Social Democracy and similar ideas. Party is divided about European co-operation and usually avoids any strong policy about Europe. Has slowly been gaining seats since 2014 however the public isn't too fond to hand power to the SDP after a 12-year term spanning from 1998 to 2011 that is generally looked back on negatively by the public.

Supporting Parties:
PDS [Opposition] 71/710 in Reichstag
Left-Wing, Far-Left (Democratic Socialism, Left-Wing Populism, Anti Capitalism, Anti Monarchism)

Founded in the late 1980s as an alternative to the SDP. Much stronger views on socialism has found popularity among SDP voters and former Communist voters. Saw a huge surge in 2011 only to stagnate later.

PPP 54/710 in Reichstag
Centre, Centre-Right (Republicanism, Classical Liberalism)

Formed in the 1910s in attempts to reform the Reich to reduce power to the Kaiser and establish a President in place of the Kaiser. Successfully pushed to increased the size of the Reichstag from 440 to 710 in the 1940s and pushed for MMP reform in the voting system in the 1970s. A major goal is a referendum to abolish/weaken the monarchy which is more unpopular than popular in Germany.

As I've noted a few times now, I think we've more or less fleshed out the skeleton of the worldbuilding and even added some extra meat here and there. The next step is the "official" thread, in which we will continue world building and also begin adjusting to the present, day to day format like the original American Commonwealth thread.

What we need before this is a country wikibox, complete with a flag, seal, GDP and population statistics, the political leaders, etc, etc. I need this done (I tried but kept screwing it up) because it will be in the first post, which will summarize basically all of the key facts about the ATL America, before we can dive into the actual game. Once this thread is up, feel free to continue infoboxes or write ups on whatever subject you want. The new thread will take over from this one due to the amount of clutter in this thread.

If anyone can churn such a wikibox out, I'd be immensely grateful. I'll give it another go tomorrow, but even if I succeed I'm positive it'll be scratchy.

I had a crack at it not too long ago but the GDP is the thing that got me stuck and I feel too inexperienced with thise kinda things to make up one on the spot

Heres my version of the country wikibox

The reason I haven't posted it in full is because I want the figures I've used to be reviewed and make sure the data is accurate.

That map is beautiful, and so is the rest of the infobox. I have work and my classes start today so I probably can’t get around to finding the GDP data. The problem I’m seeing ahead of me is that the world map is so different from OTL that I don’t think we’d be able to truly get an accurate figure.

If America has its own monarch instead of sharing one with Britain, doesn't that make the title of the thread obsolete?
Yeah that actually has been in the back of mind. We took a totally different course than I intended, but I'm happy with it. Any ideas for a new title? "The American Crown?" Something like that?

The plan I always used was to just find a reasonable GDP per capita and then just multiply it by the population. Besides no one is going to be too hung up if the GDP of West Sudan or Twswana or Zambezi is wrong.

Also before a second thread begins how about we have a review of this issue because personally, I've been iffy about the united pacific. We could have an opinion poll about some different options for the pacific.

That's not a bad idea! I think Hawaii is definitely too much for the federation, but I'm still open to the idea. This is a collaborative effort so I'd love to hear everyone else's opinion on this. I have a friend coming by in a bit, but the game play thread will be up soon. I've already got some ideas for news stories.

New Caledonia could be Antipodea (due to the french connection, could be apart of the New Hebridies province) as could Vanuatu (though that could go either way with New Wessex as well) if you don't want a United Pacific (though i quiet like the idea of a greater pacific confederation for those islands.

Im going to quickly bang out my own proposal for the Pacific and Ill get a poll up

Heres My Version of the pacific. Its nothing that unique but knowing the many cultures and colonial dynamics of the pacific its the one I believe makes the Most Sense
Screen Shot 2019-08-17 at 2.04.38 PM.png

Bougainville: Became separate from New Guniea in the 70s under the segregated government
Solomon Islands: British Colonisation, Almost exactly the same to OTL
New Hebrides: Transferred to Germany post the Great War, Culture is largely still Melenisan
New Silesia: Transferred to Germany post-Great War, Culture may be comparable to Antipodiea, however, the movement to become part of Antipodeia is small and shrinking.
Fiji: Similar to OTL, Only major change is the loss of Rotuma
Tonga: The Sweedish learnt early on about the great historical extent of the Tu'i Tonga empire from the Tongans. In an effort to make them an easier subject to colonise the Sweedish granted tonga a large number of islands.
Samoa: Larger than OTL due to the swedes consolidating nearby islands and the lack of American Samoa. Sweeden still maintains a port in Pago Pago
Terenia Islands: Remenants of the old New Åland colony of Sweeden
Oscar Islands: Split from the Line Islands via Referendum
Kalmar Islands [Continues on the other map]: Another generic group of islands
United Caroline Islands: The Germans united the Caroline islands during colonisation, The British Marshall Islands would later join the Carolines in the 1970s
Screen Shot 2019-08-17 at 2.04.55 PM.png

Kingdom of Rarotonga: Restored the old monarchy after becoming independent from Sweeden
Aitutaki: Created almost by accident as the old Rarotonga colony did not include the group of northern islands. Sweeden would later realise and instead of putting the islands under Rarotonga they created a new Colony.
Bora Bora: Huge tourist destination, A lot of swedes ended up migrating here so the culture has been Swedish influenced.
Tahiti: Another large Tourist Destination and another destination chosen by Sweedish migrants
Tuamotu: Not as popular for tourists as the country spans over hundreds of barely populated islands
Marquesas Islands: Another small pacific nation which tourists mainly avoid
Hawaii [Off the Map]: Unofficially associated with Britain but never officially part of the Empire. Maintains a mainly Polynesian culture.
