Would Taiwan have declared independence if it had nukes?

In our timeline, Taiwan tried to develop nukes in the 60s, 70s and 80s but it failed due to USA pressure not to do so. What if the USA hadn't interfered and Taiwan successfully developed nukes? With nukes holding China back, would Taiwan have, eventually, declared independence? If so, what countries would recognize it?

No, it would continue to claim that it is the real China, but the idea of an independence referendum would be more acceptable. More states would probably accept them as well.

In 1971, Chiang was open to declaring independence if the USA showed support for it but, at the time, the USA was planning to normalize relations with China so it didn't show support for it. If Taiwan had developed nukes by then or if it did some years later, it may well have declared independence.
Also, in this timeline's 90s, once the DPP gets to power, it may well declare independence.

I think Taiwan would likely declare independence & get the nuclear weapons.
