The Winnetou Revolution
imago61607198h.jpg

Its impossible for foreigners to understand the impact the Karl-May-movies of the late sixties had on german society under the Speer-regime. Especialy Americans, who watch the Winnetou-movies, just see a B-western, in which the Crimea-peninsula and ukrainian peasant in redface tried to cosplay as the Wild West and american Indians. But for many Germans the movies represent the fundamental change of the country after Speer´s victory in the GCW. The first time since 1933, Winnetou, a person of a non-white race was presented as equal and actually more noble then aryan people. Maybe much more incredible was, that the movies included a mixed-race relationship between german hero Old Shatterhand.played by Götz George, and Winnetou´s sister Ntscho-Tschi.
goetz-george-124-resimage_v-variantSmall1xN_w-576.jpg

It changed nothing on the impact, that the Indian characters were played by white actors, like french Pierre Brice as Winnetou and german actress Uschi Glass as his sister. Natural it was also highly symbolic, that Brice, a former resistance fiMghter against the Burgundians, and Götz George,a member of a Speer-militia, played best friends and blood-brotherss in the movies. But to fully understand all, you must knew the role of Karl Mays work in the Third Reich.
Karl Mays (1842-1912)books are till today the most famous youth novels in Germany. Still their symphathy for "lower" races made them problematic for the Nazis. Ironicly Hitler himself was a huge fan of Winnetou and protected the books from a ban. Still in the late 1950th Martin Borman, who disliked May for his catholic mysticism and pacifism, pressed for a ban. There iis a legend, that a public burning of Mays book let to a first massiv youth protest. At least authentic RSHA-reports certfie, that the slogan "Winnetou darf nicht sterben" was more and more written on walls. During the GCW Speer miltias called themselve "Winnetous Rache" or "Bärenfett-Brigade". Speer-partisans in Saxony were called "Apatschen". One of this young "Apatchen", Joschka Fischer, later claimed: "We couldn´t have won the war without Winnetou. We couldn´t have won the peace without Winnetou!" That is maybe a bit much, but to some degree, it was really Winnetou´s revolution.

I'm pretty sure the population of Burgundy are confined to communal barracks and camps living under spartanism.

Plus I dont think the population has the time to protest since they'll be massacred. I mean the entirety of Burgundy's population live in camps where they are forced to work and labour for 24/7. Plus Burgundian System is worse than Nazism so they won't hesitate to massacre protestors.

I mean life in Burgundy is much like Khmer Rouge Cambodia where people/civilians live in communal barracks/camps and labour 24/7.

Considering the options that Heydrich has for handling protesters I wouldn't put it past Burgundy to just drop nerve gas on the protesters.

THE HISTORY OF HERMANN GÖRING’S REICH: PART ONE.

635e37c75c8c589b41445839b96735c2.jpg

German troops preparing for Operation Tannenbaum.
History has long regarded the curious case of Hermann Göring as one of humanity’s great peculiarities. To some, he was a second Alexander the Great. To others, he was a raving lunatic of a despot. However, the actual portrait of Hermann Göring is much different.

Namely, a man in over his head.

To understand the true nature of Göring’s Reich, we must go back to the time before Hitler’s death.

hermann-goering-1893-1946-german-everett_large.jpg

Hermann Göring, future second Furher of Germany.
While Speer managed to gain traction amongst the few reformers in the Reichstag, Göring originally wanted to woo the conservatives, given he himself actually didn’t want to work with the die hard militarists in the first place.

Ironically, Göring himself didn’t want to start very many wars at all, continuing to be wary of military action.

However, Göring’s plans to woo the conservatives failed due to several factors.

  • The Meddling of Hans Speidel, a war hero who was beloved by the Reich. While a reformer like Speer, he was a more reluctant one and several conservatives could get along with him.
  • The meddling of Adolf Hitler himself. While growing in senility and isolation from the Reichstag, he continued to keep a paranoid eye on his subordinates, and saw Göring attempting to insert himself firmly in the conservative bloc as “concerning.”
  • The meddling of his rival among the conservatives and eventual victor of the political power struggles in the Conservative Bloc, Martin Bormann. A man with incredible control over access to Hitler, Bormann quickly caught onto Hitler’s worries and aided in increasing his paranoia.
As such, Göring was out of options with the conservatives, a majority of which flocked to Bormann.

This left him with only one option were he to remain a viable contender for the Reich: The Military.

Göring flocked to the warhawks and young fanatical officer corpse of the successfully radicalized portions of the German youth, and began quoting their rhetoric. Making his own speeches of the Reich’s superiority. Entrenching himself with them, Göring quickly became the popular candidate for the fanatical camp of the Nazis.

Then, Hitler on his deathbed declared Reinhard Heydrich, a proud supporter of Spartanism and Burgundian Values, his heir.

The reaction was instantaneous.

One of multiple protests by Speer’s supporters, which regular police departments did their best to slow, or subtly supported them. Heydrich’s response to the marchers was to inform SS divisions to respond with gunfire. The exact number of student deaths remains unknown.
Albert Speer went into hiding, leading his student movement from safety while at the same time preparing his own route out of Europe in case things went wrong. Martin Bormann in the meantime, used his political clout and the conservative majority in the Reichstag to stonewall any of Heydrich’s suggestions, while planning his own more popular resistance.

However Göring’s own declaration to resist Heydrich was supported by the veterans. The hard liners. The young fanatical nazis who bashed student movement protestors in the streets.

Entire military divisions, along with members of the Kreigsmarne and the majority of the Luftwaffe prepared for the moment.

It was in this political climate of riots, murders, and preparations that Adolf Hitler went into cardiac arrest.

Approximately a single week passed before the German Civil War started, and Heydrich’s hardened SS divisions had to deal with a single fact:

Namely their lack of popularity all across Germany. It was incredibly hard for them to hold territory without student divisions, Hitler Youth, and young military divisions managing to slip in and cause plenty of damage, supported by popular resistance.

Their response to the sabotage and resistance was even more brutal excesses which led to more resistance.

It was not long before Heydrich was recalled to Burgundy, and was welcomed by a firing squad.

This left Bormann, Speer, and Göring fighting while Speidel held Germania.

Though Speer had international support from members of the OFN, other members worked to hamper him and the support was unpopular amongst Germans.

Though Bormann had more widespread support among Germans, Speer had many parts of the Kreigsmarne and cut off any shipments from any loyalists in the RKs, and Göring had air superiority.

However, the thing that sealed Göring’s total victory was the Briton connection.

Brittany, an arms dealer at heart and master of the black markets was well aware that they might gain a profit from Göring’s actions, and began adding to his already large quantities of arms and soldiers with more guns and mercenaries.

Any rumors of Burgundian support to Göring would be absolutely false, though they were occasional at the time.

What is concretely known is that after a year and a half, Bormann and Speer saw the writing on the wall.

Bormann himself fled to Donitz’s government, where he boarded a ship after giving a speech to his loyalists. Sightings of him would continue throughout the 1970s.

Speer meanwhile, fled to Sweden and through a large amount of political wrangling, managed to get a plane ticket to America.

Hermann Göring was reluctantly welcomed into Germania by Speidel, and the First German Civil War was over.

Göring now ruled the Reich.

Not to mention, Burgundy has a nuclear arsenal.

Though it isn’t enough to cause WW3 at game start presumably, it’s probably enough to smack Europe’s current punching bag into oblivion.

And given they’re 40% germanized, I doubt french protests would happen or go well....

Good points. I edited my post to reflect this and removed the pictures of the protesters.

I also image that if Germany and France do go to war against Burgundy that Burgundy would definitely use their nukes against both nations, possibly nuking major cities just to bring about their twisted desires for a post-nuclear world.

Marshall Josip Broz Tito (May 7, 1892-June 14,1963), the Communist and Socialist leader of the People's Republic of Yugoslavia during the Yugoslavian War of 1963 against the Italian Empire. Unfortunately for Tito and his partisans, independence from Italy only lasted for a few months before the start of the aforementioned war, and the war itself was a total disaster, with the Italian armies achieving victory over the Yugoslavian partisan armies and taking back the country within less than a month. After the war, the Kingdom of Croatia was back under Italian suzerainty, and Italy also formed the new puppet state of Bosnia to appease Bosnian and Bosnian Muslim nationalists. After spending weeks in prison, Tito was executed by firing squad in Zagreb by Italian and Croatian armies. He was 71 years old.

Flag of the proposed Republic of Yugoslavia. The crown has added to the coat of arms in an effort to placate monarchists, if only symbolically. As of 2020, the nations of Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro have yet to reform the nation of Yugoslavia, although the four nations have continued to increase diplomatic, cutlural and economic ties amongst each other as a part of the OFN.

250px-Magneto_(Marvel_Comics_character).jpg

Pictured: promotional art for Magneto, one of the most popular superheroes in the world. A mutant who can control magnetism, he was imprisoned at the Auschwitz death camp during the Holocaust, where he discovered his powers. Fortunately, he survived long enough to be enslaved, and spent his teenage years as a slave to Baron Heinrich Zemo, a top ranking member of HYDRA, the Nazi science division. He was brutally experimented on by Zemo, but it helped him control his powers, and in the chaos of the German Civil War he murdered his tormentor to escape. He would go on to found the X-men, a team of mutants fighting the Nazis across Europe, and featuring many prominent superheroes in their own rights, such as Wolverine, Cyclops, and Storm. Over the course of the Cold War, the X-men would clash with HYDRA (whose leader, Red Skull, was cast as the real power behind Bormann's throne) and their Sentinel robots time and time again, showing that, no matter how heavy the boot of oppression can become, there will always be heroes who will rise up and fight it.

My Take on Star Wars in the TNOverse:

databank_superstardestroyer_01_169_d5757b90.jpeg

Images of the Galactic Imperium's Super Star Fortress and a normal Star Fortress as seen in Star Wars Episode V: Twilight of the Empire, the sequel to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Star Wars is a science fantasy franchise and the brainchild of George Lucas. The First Star Wars movie, A New Hope, depicts a rebellion by the Rebel Alliance against the tyrannical Nazi-esque Galactic Imperium, which, as revealed in the Prequel Trilogy, rose out from the corpse of the Galactic Empire with the ascendancy of the First Order movement at the end of the Clone Wars. The movie follows a jungle dweller turned Jedi Knight, Luke Skywalker, as he and his friends fight against the forces of the Galactic Imperium, which culminates at the end of the first movie, the destruction of the Empire's horrifying Death Star capable of wiping out entire planets. This victory by the Rebel Alliance caused the Empire to spiral into civil war, which ultimately culminates in the collapse of the Galactic Imperium and the formation of a Galactic Republic at the end of episode VI. While the Star Wars films was very popular in America and OFN nations, they are banned in Germany and Japan due to the Galactic Imperium's closeness to Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan and remain so to this day(the Original Trilogy itself was seen as controversial due to the potential negative effects it might have on detente between the OFN and Speer). However, they are very popular with political dissidents in the Unity Pakt and the Japanese Empire. It would be followed by a Prequel Trilogy in the 2000s.

ooc: Japan and Germany remained Fascist despite the reforms by whoever the Japanese reformists are and by Speer, so this probably wouldn't see the light of day there. Also as you can see, Lucas did not get permission to film in Tunisia

zfamgvolrk8s7z0yenro

Darth Vader, one of the main antagionists in the Star Wars saga. He was once Jedi Knight and Clone Wars hero Anakin Skywalker until he was tempted to the Dark Side by Palpatine. He would be responsible for helping to destroy the Galactic Empire and the Jedi Order with the execution of Order 99, which, utilizing mind control chips, turned the clone armies against the Galactic Empire and the Jedi in the service of the First Order. Initially a feared enforcer of the Galactic Imperium and devoted to it's ideology, he would develop guilt over his actions and his encounter with his long-lost son, Luke Skywalker. This would set in motion his efforts to try an reform the Empire from within, only in vain as his forces had no support from the Rebel Alliance with the Rebel Alliance seeing him as little different than the other claimants and the other claimants(Sate Pestage, the Inqusitors, and Ysanne Isard) outmatching his every move. However, he would find a degree of personal redemption in his final sacrificial effort to destroy Palpatine on Byss once and for all and save the life of his son and daughter, through the galaxy would forever remember him as a murderer.

OOC: So he's essentially a Speer expy and a composite character with Paelleon.

Image of main villain Supreme Leader Palpatine(above) and his guise as Senator(later Prime Minister) Valkorion during the prequel trilogy(below). Palpatine is the main villain of the Star Wars franchise, and is seen as a major epitome of evil in American popular culture. In the Prequel Trilogy, Palpatine is the leader of the Dark Sider organization the Black Hand, secretly a front for the long thought extinct Sith Order that he also leads as Sith Lord Darth Sidious, and was believed to have been killed decades ago by the Jedi Order. However, he survived and continued to manipulate events from behind the scenes, resurfacing as Prime Minister Valkorion. His manipulations will lead to the Clone Wars between the clone armies of the Galactic Empire and the mechanzied army of the Galactic Confederacy, controlled by his apprentice Darth Tyrannus--the fallen Jedi Master Dooku, who was working with Sidious to enforce the rule of the First Order, the fascistic human-supremacist political arm of the Sith Order across the galaxy. Eventually Palpatine suceeds in converting Anakin Skywalker to the dark side as the Sith Knight Darth Vader and enforcing the rule of the Galactic Imperium. With the destruction of the Death Star and the Imperium spiraling out into Chaos Palpatine seemingly dies of illness, only to use an ancient Sith power to transfer his essence to another host body and flee to the Sith world of Byss where he is controlling Cronal's Inquisitors from behind to retake his empire while preparing for a ritual to wipe out all life in the galaxy and make himself a god. Eventually Palpatine would be killed for good in a confrontation between him, Luke and a repentant Darth Vader at the cost of the latter's life.

OOC: Think of a composite expy of both Hitler and Himmler. This version of Sidious is also a composite character of Palpatine and Vitiate the SWTOR emperor.

tbs6-captain-rex-696-1-696x467.jpg

A model of Clone Trooper Captain Rex, a popular character in the prequel trilogy. His character arc through the films and the Clone Wars animated series was praised for effectively demonstrating the impact of the Clone Wars, and the true purpose of the Clone Troopers, on the Clone Troopers themselves. He would ultimately break free of the mind control chips and lead a Clone Rebellion of Clones that have refused to kill the Jedi in the wake of Order 99 and have also removed their mind control chips. This rebellion foreshadows the eventual formation of the Rebel Alliance in the original trilogy.

Nintendo, one of the world's most popular gaming companies.
Founded on 23 September 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi, it originally produced handmade hanafuda playing cards. By 1963, the company had tried several small niche businesses, such as cab services and love hotels. Abandoning previous ventures in favor of toys in the 1960s, Nintendo developed into a video game company in the 1970s. Supplemented since the 1980s by its major divisions Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe, it ultimately became one of the most influential in the industry and one of Japan's most-valuable companies with a market value of over $37 billion in 2018. However, Nintendo itself had many, many rocky periods during this timeframe, both due to internal and external pressures.

For instance, Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe originally began flagging abroad, due to protests at Japanese businesses taking jobs. However, many of the games themselves became very popular, and over time the profits made the investments abroad worthwhile. For instance, Super Mario.

latest

Super Mario, using a cape to fly around.

Super Mario was and continues to be one of the most recognizable figures of the video gaming industry, and promptly took off across the globe, though different localizations used different backstories for the character (A common problem in most games of the time period, to be fair.) For instance, according to Nintendo of Europe he and his younger brother Luigi are Italian lower class citizens, who lived regular lives under Scorza's benevolent watch before being called upon to save the princess of a far off land called the BeanBean Kingdom, named Princess Toadstool.

In the American version however, Mario and Luigi are American immigrants from Italy, who lived in Brooklyn before discovering a gateway to the BeanBean kingdom, and were called upon to save Princess Peach. The debate between American fans and European fans about something so inconsequential rages on even today, but the games and characters are well loved.

However, some characters didn't exist in numerous localizations for a time. For example, while Wario and Waluigi existed in the American, Japanese, and German localizations of the games, Italy was 'strangely absent' of the two, claiming that the two were both unfair stereotyping and insulted the past efforts of Italians.

But, the Mario games largely managed to pass without getting banned from any areas, unlike other games Nintendo released.

super-metroid-wii-vc-1.jpg

The Metroid franchise was momentarily banned in several European countries due to its 'pointless violence', 'inadherence to traditional roles', and for several decades flagged behind in Europe profits wise. However, the profits gained from the American localization, and the popularity from 'unofficial sales' regarding Brittany eventually led to several bans being overturned, with the most surprising one being Germany.

However, despite the momentary competition from Sega in the 1990s, Nintendo's place as one of the top dogs in the gaming industry was practically ensured from the start of "The Console Wars". While Sonic was incredibly popular in America due to his attitude, love for speed, and chili dogs, he was nowhere near as popular in Europe and Asia, with many in several authoritarian or edging out of authoritarian regimes seeing parallels between Sonic and American culture (The chili dogs didn't help his image), and Sonic was banned from a few nations in its entirety.

Nintendo managed to both hold on to their target audiences throughout the years, and steadily alter their characters as their target audience grew or changed with the changes in culture. As such, they were guaranteed a victory.

Listen to the Youth. Italy's still pretty traditional in gender roles, as is most of Europe, but they try to keep it hip and pay attention to what the kids like. And if the kids like Mario, then Mario's the perfect Italian.

Wolfenstein-nazi-moon-landing.jpg

Art of the First Moon Landing, a pivotal point in the Space Race between the three powers. Although a great victory for Germany on the world stage, the fact that the German Civil War occurred several months after this victory somewhat underwhelms it.

moon-landing.jpg

America was the second great power to land on the moon, with astronauts such as Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins being the first three Americans to walk on the moon, while a team of two piloted the lunar module above. Similar to Germany, the reaction of the other world powers was shock, polite applause, and vowing to go to the moon, or even Mars. "They've finally caught up with us." One of the scientists who worked on the German moon landings would quote himself, decades into the future in an interview.

"Pretty soon, it'll be the Japanese, unless Speer does something."

However, Japan was never going to land men on the moon. With two competing space branches, a tenuous grip on the Sphere they were trying to reinforce, and the Economic Wars taking their toll at the time, it would be a few years before they even sent men into orbit.

No, the third power to make it to the moon was the Soviet Union.

p03jc1mr.jpg

Art of two cosmonauts (Vladmir Komarov, left. Alexei Leonov, right.) planting the Soviet Flag on the moon.

One of the largest victories for Communism around the world, and one of the largest slaps to the face of Fascism, a three man mission was undertaken by the Soviets in 1982, after years of rebuilding, repairing, and the use of scientists (voluntary and 'voluntary') with expertise in aeronautics. Svetlana Iosifovna Alliluyeva, still Premier of the USSR at the time and showing no signs of crumbling from the internal power struggles of the Kremlin she dominated, and the external power struggles involving Speer's Germany, Vituska's Belarus, the former Triumvirate, Prosperity Sphere, and Indira's India all working to hamper a slowly resurging USSR, was overjoyed at the news.

However, the victory for Communism did nothing to assuage American fears about a potential 'Comintern' bloc, and while most Americans preferred communism to fascism, this does not mean communism was popular at the time. As such, the victory for the Soviets not only emboldened several left wing dictatorships America had helped set up in their own backyard, but it helped to sow the seeds of the future Soviet-American split. (Or American-Soviet split, depending on if you're reading a history book from an OFN aligned country, or a Comintern aligned country.)

Though these three powers did more moon landings however, the focus of space related exploration and discovery slowly petered away from the moon to other ventures. Deep space probes were launched from numerous countries, satellites both for television and espionage were launched, and eventually the International Space Station, a dream pursued independently by five different countries for reasons ranging from genuine international cooperation, nationalistic pride, or simply wanting to be the one who did it, the ISS was finally built after the five different designs were shown to the KdN, with Japan's version of the station winning against America's by only two votes, with Germany's design being in third behind by three votes. Though the American press were both flabbergasted and accused foul play, and there were rumors that President Regan would actually use America's veto in the Koalition der Nations to veto Japan's design, this never happened and the station was built. Perhaps it was because of pragmatic reasons, for if America vetoed Japan's design, Japan would veto America's design, leaving Germany the winner due to there being no one at the time to veto Germany.

Or perhaps it's because using a veto in a Koalition Der Nations conference simply because some other country's design for the ISS beat yours by two votes is both really immature, or really stupid. No one knows.

I have a feeling that if Nazi did moon landing first American will try to one up them by going for Mars.

It's stated in TNO that everyone does move the goal posts, I think.

America does vow to go to Mars after making a moon landing of their own, I believe? Current Devs can slap me silly if I'm incorrect, it's been a while.
