The Board of Regents of the University of California clearly have never heard of the Sino Soviet split.

So instead of forks I'll go and prepare some chopsticks if any eye-gouging is warranted.

Weird that the countries closest to China seem to have been screwed up the worst.

I see that Burma, Nepal, and Taiwan have once more been relegated to tributary states.Let the Chinese also participate in this thread

just found this in wikipedia
With the breakup of the Soviet Union, etc. the countries at the beginning of the time period and those at the end differed. It looks like they took a 1970s map (note the two Germanies) and just drew some boundaries in Central Asia. (which at this size consists of Kazakhstan and not-Kazakhstan)...I thought "that doesn't look too bad, given the resolution...WTF HAPPENED TO CENTRAL ASIA?"
Not only them.
Germany seems to have annexed the Netherlands and it visibly has a border with Italy, while Austria has an Adriatic coast which looks suspiciously like they forgot Slovenia (although the entire Balkans is a bit 'blobby')
And Cyprus is a Turkish peninsula.
Just to name a few.
Come to think of it, I had to shrink the map a bit to get the filesize small enough. the original is here:

I like how they mention the UAE twice without ever actually getting its name right.
