How are the Algerians doing ? Is the government fair and equal ? Or is France still in Africa by military occupation ?
They are doing quite well actually. The loss of Indochina resulted in the fall of the nationalist regime and they reached a settlement, (one that still favors France of course) but it occurs with a lot less bloodshed. Some differences to OTL is that France still owns some port cities such as Mers El Kébir.

Well Algeria still occasionally complains about Mers El Kébir, but many think its an acceptable trade off for being so connected with France

The National Union is an incredibly broad political party; so much so that it is more of a big tent coalition of many different factions than a cohesive political party. Originally formed as a united front against the political antics of Joseph Lane, it became anti secessionist and then abolitionist party during the Civil War. With a lack of a coherent opposition, the National Union dominated national politics during Reconstruction. Already the party was a broad front, but it centered on liberal-conservative and economically liberal policies rather than labor issues. The shift of the National Union to a labor party began in the 1904 Presidential Elections; a before hand there were the Populists who opposed the National Union's policies, but Theodore Roosevelt's progressive platform proved to be highly popular. Theodore Roosevelt ran in the National Union primaries winning a significant majority of voters and delegates, but the leadership was able to prevent him from winning the nomination. Enraged, Roosevelt gathered a large coalition of voters and won the election in a landslide. Once President, Roosevelt demanded reforms to the nomination process and leadership, otherwise he would personally burn the party to the ground. The establishment acquiesced and allowed the reforms, allowing Roosevelt to use the party as a vehicle for the Progressive Era reforms. Empowered during the Progressive Era, labor unions grew in power becoming a major wing in the National Union. Meanwhile free market liberals and capitalists became increasingly marginalized. What sealed the National Union as party of labor was the Great Depression from 1926 to 1942 and the explosion of economic growth as the Pacific War began. Ideals of moderate labor grew during the era, spurned on by sympathetic Presidents and when labor unions were poised to greatly benefit from the influx of workers. From then on the labor movement became the backbone of the American economy and the foundation of National Union. Over the decades, many constantly shifting political factions lay behind the facade of a united party. These ideologically-divided factions are backed by congressional caucuses, labor organizations, advocacy groups, and other non-governmental organizations. These factions are almost always funded by political action committees. While the factions themselves consist of ideologically-driven or individually based Political Caucuses, they have roughly coalesced into six different major political factions.

Ideologies
Labor Liberalism: Named after the more moderate liberal ideologies during the Progressive Era. Holds a center-left stance on economic issues, supporting public healthcare and education. However they hold conservative positions on social issues especially abortion, the death penalty, and obscene media. In general Labor Liberals, prioritize their social conservative ideals as much as other social issues and economic issues.
Labor Progressivism. Similar to its counterpart, however it is not as concerned with social conservative issues as Lab liberals, instead they consider other social issues like healthcare to be much more important. In general they are tolerant at least, and openly supportive at best. It is most similar to the Christian left of OTL.
Democratic Liberalism: A catch-all term for OTL social liberals, classical liberals, and anything associated with moderate liberalism.
Market Leftism: Basically OTL Market socialism, although the extent that they want to implement a market socialist economy varies. The establishment is fine with promoting workers cooperatives and especially the deregulation of the economy.
Social Democracy: Basically OTL but also includes some democratic socialists depending who you ask.
Free State Issues: Another term for minority interests and issues. Here ethnic minorities are closely associated with their own Free State.

Liberal: deregulation, pro-market liberalism. HOWEVER they do not touch labor unions at all.

Yea Puerto Rico is independent and we took the Miyako Islands much to Japan's dismay.
Ah sorry. They are close to their OTL definitions for war hawks and doves. However TTL there are Pacific Hawks and then there are Global Hawks. Basically TTL USA focuses completely on the Pacific as its sphere of influence and Pacific Hawks want it to remain that way. Global Hawks want to expand American military influence worldwide, which is a rather unpopular position.
Now I'm curious to see the Fifth Republic. Or perhaps the Sixth Republic if the Fifth didn't last?
Fun story though I got banned from there because I used it for fictional purposes. Which is quite funny because no one else had.
