Map Thread XVIII

I had been sitting around on a number of maps for a while (including a cover of this map by Bruce Munro, itself a cover) and really didn't feel satisfied with them. That is, until I noticed that the areas of the world in each that I did feel satisfied with did not overlap, and stitched them together...

Cumonia and Curonia? :D

Fun stuff! A bit of a German-wank, but no worse than the British OTL. Although I do find German Anatolia bit unlikely (for one thing, I'd expect Cumonia to object strenuously. )

That moment when you run a map-game and players go nuts starting WW1. Not really much to say thou but feel free to ask. Btw the map game is open to players, but it's in Spanish and not in this forum.

Could you give us a guide on what's going on? Looks interesting but I couldnt join the game because I dont speak Spanish
I created a world map long ago, I posted it in this thread somewhere but I can't find it (neither I tried, but would gladly help if someone did). I let users pick up countries to build up the story to the current point. Major points were:

1- The North German Confederation imploded in civil war and international wars due to a snafu on the Danish border which triggered an unwanted war when building up for a conquest of the Netherlands, which launched a pre-emptive attack. The Poles jumped in, which caused the Austrians to jump into the fray so Silesia doesn't end up in Polish hands. Bavaria, Baden and Wurtemberg merged into a South German Confederation which declared war on it's northern homologue. Hannover and Saxony left the falling NGC while communists rose up in the Rühr and Berlin starting a civil war that lasted from 1912 to 1917 and saw the creation of the German People's Republic under Rosa Luxembourg with Adolf Hitler as second in power (Hitler is a "communist" in this TL as a new ideology called Social Nationalism (yes, it's freaking Nazism but with the words switched, except it's differs ideologically in many things).

2- Spain faced a rebellion in Peru, Central America and the Philippines which saw Latin American countries declare war on Spain ultimately kicking them out of the continent. Spain refused any kind of peace deal and continued a series of wars despite the population getting tired of it which caused the Spanish Civil War a week after the start of WW1 between the English and the Franco-Spanish blocks. The start of WW1 and the Civil War destroyed the Spanish Colonial Empire into a whirlpool of independence wars and foreign interventions.

3- The Ottomans collapsed in the 1900's. The successor state was deposed by a radical which abolished the monarchy and proclaimed himself dictator, then attacked Greece while allied with Albania and Sicily which prompted Russia to declare war on them. Britain interfered to stop the Russians from reaching the Mediterranean or Constantinople. Britain ended up declaring war to Russia the same day they declared war to Spain due to Russia's economic ties to France which caused France to declare war on the UK and minor countries got dragged in.

Where is the game/other forum? I don't know if I'd join in but it at least seems interesting to follow.

ROMAN OCCULT WAR

The story is identical until 1941. After some Italian scientists make some sensational discoveries. Thanks to these discoveries, Italy has formidable weapons, and turns against Germany. Italy conquers almost the whole of Europe and North Africa, recreating the Roman Empire.

Meanwhile, Roosevelt is more radical than in our TL, in 1937 there is a civil war between the American communist government, under Earl Browder, and the new Convederati, under Alf Landon. The USSAs win. Taking advantage of the war in Europe, the USSAs are expanding the Revolution in America.

Even the Japanese create their empire, and steal (thanks to the Japanese secret services) some Italian inventions.

The Soviet Union, under the collapse, agrees to join the USSA, so the Soviet-American federation is born, with a double capital Moscow and Washigton

European Equilibrium

testqb.png

the year is 2001

For centuries European affaires (and later, global affaires) have been lead by three great nations. Caught in constant struggle yet always remaining in balance*
Of course, theses days things have cooled off significantly, and the trias has even created a customs union, joined by several smaller nations, to brace against the rising nations of North America and Asia.
(a follow up to the previous map, the POD is early around 1500)

The Big Three

United Kingdom - reigning the seas, just not as much of it as OTL, Ireland is very thurowly subjugated.

France - a flirt with socialism ended pretty badly, now they have a queen again but she's just for show.

Germany - a lot of minorities that want a part of the pie, bot native and those imported form the former colonies.

In between:

Luxembourg - they have a lot of investment in this customs thing, in every possible way
Burgundy - much more then a buffer state. I hear they have decent wine too.

To the North:

Denmark - has managed to punch above its weight in the past, now they just kinda tag along after Germany.
Sweden - preoccupied with their baltic "Empire" (that has crumbled by know).
Norway - Everyone and their Grandma tried to snatch a piece of that sweet, sweet Atlantic coast. They won't join any unions anytime soon.

Eastward:

Poland - the Commonwealth, Titan of the East. Still salty they weren't invited to play with the big guys.
Hungary - puszta and paprika, some things never change.
Croatia and Serbia - indistinguishable to the casual onlooker.
Montenegro - unconquered, uninteresting.

Southern Europe:
Spain - a slightly more stable republic.
Portugal - pretty much a colony of brazil at this point.
Euskara - the French wanted a sattelite, the Basks were having none of that.
Venice - get *really* annoyed when you call them "East Italy".
Northern Italy - aka the one with a king, vastly richer then their cousin to the south and really smug about it.
Southern Italy - aka the one with a different president every week. united only in their hatred of those smug northeners.

* perfectly balanced, as all things should be
