Could the 1991 August coup succeed

Anyway the 1991 August Coup could succeed

Would capturing Boris Yeltsin be a enough

Would the rest of the Soviet Union fall in line if the Coup succeed

A civil war in the most heavily armed nuclear power on the planet? That's a cheerful thought. Considering the republics were already starting to break away though it's frighteningly likely.

the 90s were hard enough on Russia. this somehow makes it worse.

The Baltics are a write-off at this point, but the rest of the Soviet Union? So long as you take out Yeltsin and any other focal point of opposition, the coup has a reasonable shot at succeeding.
