Shouldn't Egypt be in blue if it's nationally prohibited in this case

Oopsie! It should not be nationally prohibited, that's an error!

Nice, it seems Islamic fundamentalism may not be as widespread, or at least that countries like Egypt or Iran have a somewhat more liberal central government than ours.

Correct! It is not. Iran and Egypt have fairly liberal governments, but the most liberal is Arabia, which is one of the more democratic countries in the Middle East.

The Philippines.

It is regulated in North Borneo and banned in several southern islands as a public health measure.

I like how it took all of three years for New England to decide that prohibition wasn’t worth it.

It did not last long in the Commonwealth in general.

How would they have even enforced that in Australia. I'm presuming not all that well.

Poorly to not at all!

Especially if Pharohism wins over Arabism and Islamism, a Pharohistic Egypt would certainly be better for Egyptian Jews and the Copts

Egypt is an Islamic country.

Just a reminder to everyone, TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO ENTER THE DBWI CONTEST! I will be accepting submissions through the end of today, after which they will be judged and the winners announced tomorrow morning. Good luck everyone!

I for one would be interested in knowing how Arabia became so democratic - and also a republic, if I read the world map correctly. I assume something happened to the Sauds...

Darn! So close and yet so far. I might have misinterpreted May 10th. Never mind, I’ll be interested to see what others come up with. Maybe I’ll show off my map some day, just not for the contest.

Once I finally get over the fact I gotta finish the Netherlands boxes, and then the rest of Europe, I'll get to Arabia :p

If you have a map that can finish on the 10th, I can extend it for you!

You never stop, do you?

I’ll be able to submit it by 9am (American) EDT, so if that’s okay with you, thanks a lot!

I will look forward to the Netherlands then. If it’s even a fraction as good as your previous ones, it’ll be worth the wait. You put so much effort in, it’s scary.

Awesome! It can definitely wait until then!

Submissions for the DBWI contest will close at 10:00AM Eastern Daylight Time!

It won't be--trust me. I only have two boxes right now. Germany really took a lot out of me haha

Hello everyone!

I'm pleased to announce something I've wanted to do for quite some time for Our Fair Country -- the first contest! The rules of this will be pretty simple. Anyone who wishes to enter must create a "DBWI" (Double Blind What If) for Our Fair Country where something happens differently! An example would someone deciding that the Socialist Republic of Germany succeeded, and defeated the Commonwealth to secure Germany. This can be a Wikibox, a Map, a Wikiarticle, or a write up. Do what you want! I will accept entries from now until Friday May 10th!

From the entries, I will take the top 2 (chosen by me) and announce the winners. There's, of course, a prize involved :coldsweat: (Determined at the end of the contest)

Good luck to those who choose to enter! Any questions just DM me or catch me on Discord!

I'm also going to get to answering everyone's question's tonight. Sorry for the delay!
Here is my chance to submit a DBWI entry:

PoD: France succeeded in electing a Communist president ended up in a wrong turn when a failed coup had ended up into a series of violent attacks.

The French Civil War was an eruption of dissatisfaction and a failed coup against the government of Third Republic after the election ended with Communist president Maurice Thorez and support was rapidly rising which had led to an open but bloody war that had left millions dead. The war has been started with the election of Maurice Thorez as a president after struggles in the 1948 election and failed coup followed led by Charles de Gaulle and his members of the National Restoration Army (ANR) which would further spur violence that had completely splintered the army in metropolitan France in which resulted in further military and police defections to the Charles de Gaulle's faction ANR, Maurice Thorez, whose now a president responds deliberately by proclaiming himself as a "Supreme Communard" and further establishing as Communard Republic of France in famous speech at National Assembly that has been occupied by French Communist Front.

Charles de Gaulle, leader of National Restoration Army had fled from Paris to Algiers, deliberately speaks to the people that the country wasn't bowed down to communard on his famous speech on what historians called "Appeal of July 14" (Appel du 14 Juillet) on which he declared himself as a sole legitimate leader of France in which had only days lasted until hostile actions on July 15 which had further speeding up an 'action of provocation' that was commencing the first battle between the National Restoration Army and the Communard in Marseille on that day that the first battle was the start of campaign between the competing factions and the civil war had spread to its colonies in Indochina and other colonies due to an outbreak of what was the first years of the battle between the Communard and National Restoration forces.

However, the news that had further alarmed the British government as the news of communist takeover had also spread. The British government moved towards the intervention by the second week of August, and was able to secure the assistance of Canada, New England, Australia, and New Zealand. The Commonwealth represented the strongest and largest anti-Communist force in France as there was a mechanism that could raise more soldiers in assisting the anti-Communard forces while National Restoration Army was able to encourage citizens of opposing the Communard regime to rise up as well as raising soldiers from French colonies. In response, the Communard Republic of France had raised its soldiers and militias by that time the British had formally intervened.

The Commonwealth forces had assisting the National Restoration Army in taking a large amounts of metropolitan France from Communard control and it was realized that the French Communards had raised million forces to defend against the Commonwealth intervention but suffered amounts of losses in Riviera Campaign while the British had launched large-scale amphibious Operation William in taking control of Provence from Communard control while counter-offensive by the February 1949 had proven the National Restoration Army was driven out by large numbers of Communard forces. The goal for Operation William was to capture Marseilles, while the second invasion, named Operation Clandestine took place along the English Channel. Primarily composed of French National Restoration, New English, Australian, and New Zealander forces led by Admiral Bertram Ramsay, the assaults against Aquitaine would become the deadliest campaign ever waged by the Commonwealth. Despite the setbacks and inflicting heavy losses, the National Restoration was managed to secure much of Northern part and perform campaigns to link with the anti-Communard French forces in the western part of France from mid 1949 to early 1950 and was able to decapitate the remaining Communard with the Liberation of Paris by December 1950.

The last remaining pockets of Communard forces has been surrendered as the French National Restoration wage the Burgundian Campaign to dislodge the remaining pockets of the French Communards until the last capital of the French Communard has been captured and marked the end of resistance, and the Fourth Republic was proclaimed on 30th of September, 1951.

I thought it was tomorrow

Alright for the final time haha, I see how it could have been worded poorly.

DEFINITIVELY, THE DBWI CONTEST WILL CLOSE FOR SUBMISSIONS AT 12:00:00 AM, MAY 11TH, 2019

hopefully this will give any last minute entries the time they need ^.^

Awesome! Glad you made it through them all. Welcome back to New England!!

1. This is mostly because the interstate conventions are similar, but not the same. CA-1 also does not exist, the development of motorways within the United States was moribund until the interstate system itself was created.
2. Not really. Mostly surface roads. Railroads and mass transit made up the majority of traffic for intercity transit, so there was never really a desire to make a large highway.
3. Eureka is the most populous city in northern Hamilton. That's about it! It used to be the last (major) stop on the railway lines into Columbia.
4. It's named the town of Arnold, after famed British General Benedict Arnold.

Thanks for all the answers! As much as it's a bit surprising seeing an America with significant mass transit, it doesn't seem that crazy - which is what makes our timeline's situation even more sad.

First time trying to make a Wiki. More difficult that I thought. My grammar is terrible and file was to big to upload as one so there are several smaller ones. There is a second post too. https://imgur.com/a/hjKqXnS Here to see the whole thing.
This was fun. Support Kanan, visit my TL, etc.

I wonder what this alt-alt-North America would look like by TTL present-day.

And now an eleventh hour entry!
(Well, if I get extra time, I’m going to take advantage of it!)
The previous one makes my entry look pretty feeble in comparison, but here goes:

The following is a map from the popular alternate history timeline The Red Tsar Reigns, based on the question: what if Stalin had successfully invaded Europe? The POD is that Kamenev’s coup in 1946 fails and as a result, the Soviet Civil War does not begin.

As a result, when Germany and Poland erupt into civil war after communist uprisings, Stalin takes the chance to begin his great invasion of Europe, launching Operation Lenin on 23 August 1947 and beginning an invasion of the Balkans and Poland. He rebuffs multiple attempts by the Germans to call for an armistice, until, on 17 November 1947, President Hugenberg and Chancellor von Papen are executed and the German government declared dissolved by the communist rebels.

Stalin, whose forces had reached the Oder, offered to the rebels their admission to the USSR as four new Union Republics; the Prussian SSR, the German Federal SSR, the Rhenish Federal SSR and the Bavarian SSR. They would retain their self-government in exchange for recognising Stalin as General Secretary and merging their armies into the Red Army. The proposal was met with varying levels of acceptance; the delegates of the Prussian Commune accepted almost immediately (possibly to do with the fact they were under Soviet occupation), while the United Communes of the Rhine took two weeks to accept the proposal (definitely
without any intimidation from Soviet authorities). The Commonwealth had no chance to respond; while they were still drawing up plans for an intervention, a treaty was signed and the Soviet Union stretched to the Rhine.

France's labour revolts spiralled out of control and a Communist President was elected in 1948, who dissolved the Third Republic and created the closely Soviet-aligned Fourth Republic. In the Balkans, nations were falling like dominoes; Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Greece and Turkey, in quick succession, all fell to the the Evil Empire. Czechia and Krebs' Austria fell in 1951. In the east, the Chinese Civil War ground to a stalemate and Chu Teh secured the admission of the Chinese People's Soviet Socialist Republic to the USSR, while Korea was split between a free South and the Korean SSR in the North. Finland once again lost its independence.

In the final months of 1952, the French and Soviets commenced Operation October, a two-pronged assault on Italy. It was to be followed by the establishment of puppet states in Iberia and the creation of new SSRs in the Nordics. Famines in Russia eased as Stalin looted Europe for his own gain. As they were stripped of their resources and industry, the German SSRs began to seriously regret their decision. But it was too late now.

Europe was Stalin’s; his face was on posters from Paris to Peking. The Venetian SR was the last to be admitted to the Union, as on 7 February 1953, Joseph Stalin, the Red Tsar, Conqueror of Europe suffered a stroke and died.

The Red Tsar had reigned, and he had wrought violence, hatred and destruction. Now he was gone - but Europe had a long journey to peace ahead of it yet.

The results are in! After careful consideration and judging (myself and my girlfriend), we've picked the winners! There were so many high-quality entries (11 in total!) that this was a very hard decision to come to.

So, without further adieu; we'd like to congratulate @TheKutKu for his winning entry: Saguin County, New York!

Second place goes to @KanonenKartoffel for the British-German War series!

I must give a special shoutout to @Imperolo for the excellent "American Crisis"!! I must admit it came a very close third for its quality and was so good to read! The content was excellent, so please -- check out his timeline here: George Washington II! I've read some myself and it is most excellent.

Thank you again to every who entered!! I plan on doing something similar to this at the end of the year. This was an absolute blast to do and all of these entries were super good. This was a really hard choice! <3

Mmm, imagine all the fresh new ethnic conflicts this would cause when the Soviet Union collapses...

Who said that the Soviet Union collapses? Remember that this is an alternate OFC timeline, where the Soviet Union still exists to this day (although, in all fairness, this massive European empire probably would’ve collapsed eventually).
