Ya know, I killed the last thread for getting into current politics, just like what is happening now.

Don't really want to kill this one, but it is in your hands.

Likewise, here's 1980 with all of Anderson's votes going to Reagan:

Reagan absolutely obliterates Carter in both the EC and PV. he wins the electoral college by a margin of 517-21 and the popular vote by a margin of 57.36-41.01.

That awkward moment when Carter doesn't even win his running mate's home state. But he still wins West Virginia because that was a blue state back then.

Am I allowed to make a map where I essentially pull all the results out of my butt? An example would be Clinton losing Arkansas in 1992 to Ron Paul.

Landslide elections in American history since 1960

1972

genusmap.php

Pres. Nelson Rockefeller (C-NY)/Vice Pres. John Connally (C-TX): 371 EVs, 52.7%
Gov. Ronald Reagan (AF-CA)/Sen. Berry Goldwater (AF-AZ): 115 EVs, 19.1%
Sen. George McGovern (S-SD)/RepShirley Chisholm (S-NY): 52 EVs, 21.9%

The 1972 election showed that the nation was almost ready to give up the status quo. While incumbent President Rockefeller of the Center Party easily won reelection, Governor Reagan paved the way for major gains of the America First Party.

1980

genusmap.php

Pres. Ronald Reagan (AF-CA)/Vice Pres. Donald Rumsfeld (AF-IL): 455 EVs, 54.1%
Gov. Jimmy Carter (S-GA)/Gov. Jerry Brown (S-CA): 64 EVs, 31.5%
Sen. Lowell P. Wicker, Jr. (C-CT)/Rep. John B. Anderson (C-IL): 19 EVs, 13.0%

President Reagan was in the middle of the Iranian War, which led to national unity and a high approval rating on election day. The Center Party, which was once thought to be an unstoppable force in American politics, only won states in New England.

1992

genusmap.php

Businessman H. Ross Perot (I-TX)/Fmr Gov. Jerry Brown (I-CA): 451 EVs, 56.9%
Rev. Jesse Jackson (S-DC)/Mayor Bernie Sanders (S-VT): 65 EVs, 33.4%
State Rep. David Duke (AF-LA)/Various: 22 EVs, 5.9%

Perot easily won the Presidency. While he was endorsed by the Center Party, he declined their nomination and became the first President since George Washington to win as an Independent. This election would begin to show a shift towards the Socialist Party in rural areas like West Virginia, Vermont, and Idaho. David Duke, the America First nominee, didn't even expect to win so he didn't even choose a running mate.

1976

genusmap.php

Gov. Ronald Reagan (AF-CA)/Rep. Donald Rumsfeld (AF-IL): 344 EVs, 45.2%
Pres. Nelson Rockefeller (C-NY)/Vice Pres. John Connally (C-TX): 136 EVs, 35.9%
Rep. Patsy Mink (S-HI)/Fmr Sen, Eugene McCarthy (S-CA): 58 EVs, 16.6%

The economy was doing terrible and China was in a standoff with the United States over Taiwan. Were Rockefeller's chances of winning reelection high? No. Governor Reagan of California, who ran 4 years earlier, was able to become the first President of the United States from the America First Party.

My biggest Romney win in 2012
genusmap.php

genusmap.php

Mitt Romney (R-MA)/Rob Portman (R-OH) - 321 EV, 50.90% PV
Barack Obama (D-IL)/Joe Biden (D-DE) - 217 EV, 48.18% PV

I'm working on a Wikipedia style county map in MS Paint, and these are the 6 states I've finished so far. I expect this to take a while so I'm going to keep updating this map until I have all 50 states done, at which point I will, of course, post the county map. it's going to be a Democratic landslide with the Democratic candidate doing especially well in the South.

These are the state I've finished so far, shaded by the statewide margin:

Update #1

I finished an additional 19 states + DC this morning, and now I'm halfway done. as you can see, it's basically going to be 1932/1936 in a more modern setting.

I'm pretty sure she would have done better than this, at least winning Missouri and North Carolina.

Between May 26, 1859, and November 12, 1860, an imperial convention was elected to answer the question of whether or not the Holy American Empire should break into civil war. The convention voted to start a civil war on December 23, 1860, then adjourned. Attempts were made to call a second convention to decide anything at all about the war, but the Imperial Diet enthusiastically voted down all attempts to legislate anything that had anything to do with it or the war in general. And so, the war began with nobody knowing who the combatants would be, least of all the combatants themselves.

For some reason this reads to me as Terry Pratchett-esque. Not sure why though
