Skyline of Singapore in 1982, a year before Doomsday. The city-state was spared of nuclear destruction on that fateful day and is one of the richest and most progressive in Southeast Asa.

palau_boat-jpg-data.jpg

A boat full of American civilian workers stranded in Palau (now Belau). The island was part of the United Nations Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands administered by the United States. While Palau was unaffected by nuclear strikes, loss of contact with the United States forced the island to be on its own for a while before uniting with Micronesia and then the Commonwealth of Australia and New Zealand.

A Japanese trawler with a whale off the coast of Hokkaido. Whaling has continued post-Doomsday where it has attracted protests from environmentalists.

I'll fix that soon, don't worry. BTW here is a new pre-Doomsday photo:

The U.S. Navy aircraft carriers USS Coral Sea (CV-43), left, and USS Midway (CV-41), center, and the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN-65), right, underway during CINCPAC Exercise FLEETEX '83. The US Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and the Royal Canadian Navy were participating in the exercise near the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. The naval exercises which lasted from March 29, 1983 to April 17, 1983 was the largest naval exercise held in the Pacific Northwest and was heavily condemned by the Soviet Union as "provocative."

Photograph created on April 13, 1983 and released with consultation and approval from the APA, CRUSA, and the Commonwealth Armed Forces.

Map of the Fulda Gap, where it was expected that Soviet and NATO armor would fight each other. Doomsday ironically prevented this from happening but small scale skirmishes occurred between American, British, French, and German NATO units against scattered Soviet and Warsaw Pact forces.

French Anti-Tank Unit Training before the War.
The late 1970s and early 1980s saw increased French commitments to the defense of Germany with the troisième corps d'armée '3rd Army Corps' created in Lille positioned along preassigned guidelines in the Rotterdam-Dortmund-Munich line agreement that prohibited the French movements in Germany. France and Germany amended their mutual miltary and security agreements outlined in the bilateral Elysée Treaty in October 1982.
