wouldn't he still be PDN instead of PDC, i think he'd be too extremist for even the PDC to handle.
Jones did the same thing as Trump. He switched from PDN to PDC and announced his candidacy. Everyone thought he would bomb, or he was running as a joke. But, he rode a wave of popularity that carried him to the Presidency.

Also, @Oryxslayer I want to figure out what Vsauce would be doing TTL. Should he be the same as OTL? Should he become a politician, perhaps working in the Ministry of Education. Maybe he becomes the independent Premier of Missouri?

Something to remember about every potential non-political individual entering politics - it is a transition from a private individual with full control of your narrative to a public individual and personality. Some private individuals are already in the public sphere by nature of their position (Eg: Newscasters, public Billionaires like OTL Bezos), but most people have to cross that daunting threshold. Some people don't want to make the crossing in OTL, and in most cases we should respect a private individuals decision to remain private.

so who's going to run in the Outer Banks-Henderson by-election since its MP Walter Jones recently passed away?

I'll do a writeup on the writ for a by-election and potential candidates next week, and set a schedule for when the expect results. I'm on spring break after all, so I got plenty of time.

@Oryxslayer I was thinking of an idea that's a little wild, but what if there was an "Egyptian Inquisition" during the period of French rule (at least in Egypt proper), leading to a majority-Coptic Christian state more aligned with the West than MENA. I mean it is a bit crazy, of course this could be that the Copts themselves take power and purge the Muslims. I dunno. Thoughts?

I for one would approve of this idea. It helps to make Egypt stand out more compared to other TLs, where it's just a rehash of modern-day trends (and sometimes veering off into Islamic extremist or pan-Arabist/Maghrebist vibe)

I'm going to say no from demographic reasons. The French can certainly promote Christianity and encourage christian officials - see OTL Lebanon/Indochina, but why purge at least 50%(likely more)? It makes no sense. Especially since the local government is still in place like OTL British egypt. The idea however is not totally useless. We already have Egypt more Europe oriented thanks to its left leaning government and Italian alliance, so why not push this Coptic question forwards. We already have Egypts socialism being promoted/led by the early socialist OTL Israelite's (the kibbutznik types), so its not hard to see them preferring a diverse administration despite the country being overwhelmingly Islamic. A administration that is diverse prevents any form religious or cultural ties from turning socialism into authoritarianism or parochialism. Then once the Levant gets conquered/revolts into Arabia's control, the Coptic types have a level of government access disproportionate to their demographic numbers. Then you can get a situation where the new leadership, despite being collectively from a minority, is able to rule the majority by emphasizing things that are similar or pointing against a common foe.
r
OTL Syria and Lebanon show stable ways (at least until the 21th century) that a minority can rule a majority, or the South Africa for the more forceful approach. Other more "ideological" examples include the prominence of Jews in early Hungarian Socialism, the Sonora Dynasty's control over early PRI Mexico, or how the upper class Indonesians followed a different type of syncretic Sunni Islam then the middle who also observed a different type of Islam than lower classes pre-WWII. The result of these cliques is that they promote insiders, and those on the outside 'convert' to advance. So the historical accident of post Levant-loss Egypt having a lot of Copts in leadership might promote future Copts to leadership, and might result in more Copts then OTL (say 70/75-30/25 Muslim/Christian rather than 85/80-15/20). This is thanks to the soft converts that come as the middle class takes advantage of channels of access, and the lower classes converted for access to aid. Oh and the lack of Sunni administrations in the 20th century won't come with Islamic policies that in OTL produced converts in the opposite direction.

While I like your idea, I was thinking something other than an outright purge persay, but a more subtle conversion. Perhaps Coptic leaders with religious Deseret style intentions under a veil of nationalism. They could use propaganda to push the use of the Coptic script over Arabic, and to demoralize pan-Arabist ideas ("We do not want to become a puppet of Arabia/Azawad"). This sort of thing could be more reasonable, especially under the socialist regime. And after all, what's more to gain than allying with the Christian West rather than MENA.

So, perhaps still a minority (but a sizeable plurality) would be Coptic, with a majority in urban centers. I would perhaps lean on 65/35 Muslim/Coptic based on your'e proposals. And remember, this could happen over time, from French rule until recent times, making Islam more of a "lower class" thing and the educated rich being Coptic and the government using the language. Another possibility is, of course, an Authoritarian Coptic government

I like this "enlightened Coptic-led nationalist republic" (in the sense that while Coptic Christianity takes the leading role despite being a very large minority*, but is otherwise a nonsectarian republic). Perhaps it could resemble Egypt in "Lawrence's Legacy" (a map game I created) in which they emphasize a lot more of its ancient past, while still being a Muslim-majority state.

Also, we could have some form of a National Pact, where the President (or whoever is the head of state) must be a Coptic Christian, while the Prime Minister (head of government) must be a Sunni Muslim.

*As in within the 30-40% range

Anyone think they could do wikiboxes for some of the political parties (New Wessex, Antipodea, New Holland, Aotearoa, New Guinea, India, Japan, Tejas etc).

I'd do it myself but i have no idea how to do wikiboxes.

Lebanon can be kept smaller to encompass Christian majority areas, rather than expanding it into Muslim areas as OTL, and made a solidly Maronite/Christian state.

I can do it, however I need original logos for the parties (Wikipedia is VERY strict on copyright)
