I find stuff like the pre-Balkan Wars borders of Greece and the clearly Ottoman Dodecanese fascinating. Also the notion of the entire Central Powers as a Greater Germany is fascinating.

Here is something giving more details. And we have to keep in mind how many Jews lived in Eastern Europe. Probably pretty cold areas themselves, and between that and Palestine, you get two temperature extremes.
