An idea I've had rattling around for a long time: after Tiananmen Square China ends up under military rule and Britain under Micheal Portillo ends up giving Hong Kong independence as a republic within the Commonwealth. Nowadays the city-state is highly dependent on the flow of Anglo-American arms to deter aggression from the PLA over the frontier, though many Hong-Kongers believe that the Chinese would never invade due to the Nanking Junta's reliance on trade through the Pearl River Delta. Regardless, a contingent of the US Army (supported by a few hundred British troops) remains garrisoned there as per a 1998 Defence Treaty. Meanwhile, corporate interests have slowly but surely developed a grip over Hong Kong, with HSBC so influential that it has become virtually a state within a state...

Wikiboxes for the four political parties represented in Congress in the US. The political landscape is going through a major shift due to the rise of Peace & Justice, which has siphoned much of the National Liberal Party's left-wing as well as most of the Nationalists' socially progressive base in the west.

The 2018 Wisconsin general election was held on November 6, 2018 to elect all 99 members of the Wisconsin State Legislature, the unicameral legislature of Wisconsin. Wisconsin is the only state with a parliamentary system of government, and one of only two states (along with Nebraska) with a unicameral legislature.

Paul Ryan, the incumbent State Executive, a member of the Republican Party, announced on July 15, 2018 that he would step down following the election. Jerry Petrowski was chosen as his replacement as leader of the Wisconsin Republican Party, but was defeated in the general election by the Progressive Party, led by Tammy Baldwin, who became State Executive. Just four seats short of majority government, the Progressives were able to form minority government with supply and confidence support from the Farmer-Labor Party, who retained the right to otherwise vote on conscience. Phil Anderson won election as the sole Libertarian member of the legislature, while Jim Ott, an independent candidate who had formerly been a member of the Republican Party, was re-elected.

Baldwin became the first woman to be State Executive of Wisconsin, as well as the first openly gay person to hold the position. She became the first Progressive Executive since 2002, ending the sixteen years of Republican administration led by Tommy Thompson and then Paul Ryan. She is expected to be the final State Executive sworn in during the Governorship of Allan Selig, whose term expires in 2019. The next general election is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, although one could be held earlier, in case of an early dissolution.

The 2016 United States presidential election was the 58th quadrennial American presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. The Populist Ticket of Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold and Arizona Representative Ruben Gallego defeated both the Republican ticket of Massachusetts Senator Geoff Diehl and Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, and the Democratic ticket of Alabama Senator Jim Folsom Jr. and Texas Governor Bill White.

Feingold won both the popular vote and reached the 270 Electoral vote threshold to be elected without a runoff, something that had not happened for the Populists since 1984.

Essentially, the Democrats have an epic power struggle from the 1920-1960s between the Southern and Northern wings of the party. This comes to a head in the mid 60s and in 1968 there are 2 Democratic tickets, leading to states which normally vote Democratic being lost to the Populists/Republicans, giving the the big 2 their best combined result in several decades. Turnout is lower in the runoff because a lot of the Democrats just can't stomach either candidate, but the South goes to the Populists out of anti-Republican sentiment and in a parallel manner New England goes to the Republicans.

Quickly mocked up two wikiboxes for theoretical elections, based on exceptional poll results in Germany from 2011 and 2012.

The Greens skyrocketed in the polls in early 2011, in part due to anti-nuclear sentiment in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear disaster (anti-nuclear being an important part of the Grüne platform.) They were neck and neck with the Social Democratic Party from April through June. During this time, they consistently saw results in excess of 20-25%, and outpolled the SPD on several occasions. This particular poll, the 6 April 2011 poll from Forsa, was not the widest gap between the two parties, but it was the best result for both together, as well as among the worst for the CDU/CSU in this time period. A theoretical election based on this poll result has the Greens net 28% of the vote and the SPD 23% - a small increase for the SPD vs 2009, but the Greens are the clear winner, blowing their previous best result (10.7% in the previous election) utterly out of the water. The CDU/CSU fall to 30%, within two points of the Greens, and their coalition partner the FDP are wiped out of the Bundestag entirely. The SPD, uniquely, hold the balance of power in the Bundestag. They are able to either form a grand coalition with the CDU/CSU or enter into the first ever German federal green-red coalition. In this instance, they choose the latter. Jürgen Trittin of the Greens becomes Chancellor.

The second scenario is based on a poll from almost exactly a year later, at the zenith of the popularity of the Pirate Party. For those unfamiliar with or who have forgotten what pirate politics even is, they're pirates in the digital sense. They advocate internet freedom, freedom of information, government transparency, e-democracy, respect for rights, and copyright reform. The German Pirate Party is now just a small minor party, but boomed in popularity in late 2011 and 2012 as people became dissatisfied with the other parties. They scored 13% in several nationwide polls at their peak, though unlike the Greens in the above scenario, were far from second place. In the 9 April 2012 Forsa poll, they came in third place - two points ahead of the Greens and eleven behind the SPD. The unique part of this theoretical election is not only that the Pirates enter the Bundestag (something they have failed to achieve in OTL), but that they hold the balance of power. The FDP again falls short of the 5% hurdle, losing all their seats, and giving the Pirates the opportunity to prop up either major party. In this scenario, they choose to support an SPD government, though such an arrangement also requires the involvement of the Greens. This is the first three-party coalition in post-war Germany (if the CDU/CSU is counted as one party).

My one criticism is that I would expect, with a political movement devoted to the welfare of the Western small farmer, there would be much more population in the Inner West.

Looks cool but I do want to say IOTL, Rosello, despite being a member of the Dems is also member of the NewPrpgressives, a center right Puerto Rican party. So, take that as you will. Unless his political positions have changed?

Abridged history: Kravitz (born Kaczynski) is elected on a campaign of federal divestment and isolationist self-reliance over the hawkish MacDonald, who is still being asked questions about the disappearance of Vice President Hoffa. He's impeached after he authorizes strategic bombing campaigns of essential public services in "problem areas". Trump, a fresh-faced supply-side from the Bronx with no prior experience, would be the youngest POTUS until the election of Jackson Jr. in 2012. Machinations from his Vice found Trump forced to resign when his illegal offshore deals were revealed, spurring the senior Jackson to run as an independent. When the USSR starts flexing in the late eighties, America remembers it wants someone tough on the Soviets elects General Haig.

I'm getting "For All Time" vibes from President Kaczynski

Incumbent Prime Minister Thaddeus Goodale, the founder of the Federal Republic of Upper Pacifica and both the Conservative Party and the Progressive Party, easily won a fourth term in a landslide. Disgusted with the direction of the Conservative Party, which he had founded in 1895, Goodale formed the Progressive Party in 1902. He led the party to the largest majority in the history of Upper Pacifica until the 1961 election. He would end up resigning in 1908 and spend the rest of his days exploring and hunting in the Western Territory and the Territory of West Beaver with future Prime Minister James C. Pike.

James H. Clayborn was unprepared to assume the job of leader of the Conservatives, but during a bitter leadership battle he was chosen as a compromise candidate. He led the party to it's worst defeat in it's history, winning only 1 seat (and losing his own). He would retire from politics forever after the election.

Max Rose was a science fiction writer and, following his second general election loss, Premier of the State of Kamatu. A co-founder of the Marxist-Leninist Party, he would later create the Socialist Labor Party in 1908 then the Workers' Unity Party in 1913.
