With a POD after Hejaz's indipendence as an arab republic prevent the rise of the islamists in Arabia and their overthrown of the Saudi Dinasty.
On the flip side what would have it taken for the Shah to be overthrown and replaced by islamists?
What would be the consequences of a surving Saudi Arabia and an Islamic republic of Iran on the West, Israel and the United Arab republic?

America’s number-two ally in the Middle East begins Israel being overthrown? They would never allow it. Granted, the Shah had to tone down the ridiculous opulence and dial back the brutality to make it work, and plenty of young people in Iran still clamor for democracy, but there’s a better chance of a damn dirty Commie getting elected POTUS than the US forsaking the Shah. Besides, the early 80s we’re defined by Operation Iraqi Freedom and the overthrow of that idiot Hussein as well as the partition of what was once Iraq into South Iran, Kurdistan and whatever the real name of the Gulf Republic is. I mean, that’s all we know it as and I had two college friends spend a semester in Baghdad.

As for Arabia...the house of Saud never stood a chance once the Wahhabists decided they wanted all that sweet oil money for themselves.

Yeah a lot of people still complain about the brutality of Iran's government but compared to supreme leader Bin Laden the Shah's secret police is a group of boyscouts
Also it is safe to assume that the creation of Kurdistan kinda backfired , considering they are alligned with Moscow now

True on Kurdistan but Iraq under Hussein was no friend to America and the Gulf Republic and South Iran are, so it’s a net gain. Well, at least to the extent South Iran can be, since they’re pretty hardcore about the whole Shi’a thing and not too friendly to anybody.

And bin Laden? Fuck that guy. His family sure is nice, even if their douchebag brother robbed them blind to form Arabia’s bloated military and they had to resort to making movies in Turkey.
