It is his home state, and I think he was a lot more to the left in the 80s.

For that matter, I'm more surprised that Ted Kennedy of all people won MS and AL.
That would be a surprising showing by Trump and Duke in those States, coupled with Southerner Bill Clinton's inclusion on the ticket.
