If the 2012 October Surprise is the same as 2017's November Surprise, Kaine probably wins by much more than that.

Also, how does 2008 go?

The logical conclusion of the X-in-Canada maps: (affectionate parody, bordering on shitpost but not quite)

Very rough eyeball of a World Parliament election after Canada took over the world. Please let me know which countries I should recolor. Warning: I chose a few colors for variety and/or humor reasons.

Thx
Narrow Liberal majority government a la 1980 federal election?

But where is Bloc Québécois?! Perhaps give them Francs if you aren't using OTL sub national entities?

Yeah, Moore would definitely do substantially worse than this. Especially against a ticket comprised of two moderate Southerners. I would flip West Virginia, Kentucky, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, Arizona, Alaska, Kansas, Nebraska (except for CD-3), the Dakotas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and probably even Utah. Speaking of Utah, I'm quite sure Romeny would leave the ticket if the pedophilia allegations against Moore came out, so I'll assume he's replaced by some no-namer which allows Kaine to carry Utah. Basically Moore would only win Wyoming, Idaho, Oklahoma, and maybe Alabama. Wyoming and Idaho would be toss-ups and his best state would probably be Oklahoma.

This one might be controversial.
Schwarzenegger-Martinez vs. JBE-Kennedy III

Do you think that Schwarzenegger and Martinez could flip California?

Doing two states with long and jagged coastlines was not the smartest idea I've ever had, lol. Hopefully after this I can make more frequent updates with smaller states.

Alaska, the smallest state population wise and the largest area wise, is one of the most unique American states not for its geography, but rather for its socialist ideology.

The roots of this socialist leaning where first planted in the late 1800s, when after the crackdown on the People's Will in Tsarist Russia a couple of its former members fled to the wide open spaces of Alaska. However it would not be until after WWII, wherein the Russian Empire fell to the Soviet Union, that Alaska began to truly surge with socialist emigres.

Towards the end of the Russian Civil War, with the Bolsheviks having proven themselves military supreme the leaders of other socialist factions began to disperse in order to flee the coming onslaught of purges. While most of these leaders chose various European countries Julius Martov chose America instead, and fleeing to the frozen wasteland of Alaska in the hopes of creating his own perfect democratic socialist society far away from the rest of civilization. Along with him came tens of thousands of his followers, more than doubling its population in just one decade.

With Congress worried over the possibility of another socialist revolution originating from Alaska the idea of sending federal troops to arrest the Mensheviks' leadership was floated around. However with all Americans being far too weary of war this option was never taken, and Alaska remained a territory in a state of limbo throughout the 1920s. It would only be in the 1930s, after the ascension of the National Union party to power, that the issue of Alaska would be brought up again. With the National Union being far more open to left wing ideas than the Republicans, the idea of persuading Alaska to vote National Unionist was instead proposed. In particular, another Russian emigre, Alexander Kerensky, volunteered to establish a branch of the National Union party in Alaska in the hopes of gaining even more National seats in Congress. In 1939, with the Republican party having the winds in their sails for the 1940 Presidential election, FDR approved this measure, admitting Alaska as the 60th state in the Union with the caveat that the Northern, oil rich half be separated into the territory of Seward.

As predicted, Alaska turned into a supporter of the National Union party, with heavy gerrymandering forcing the Mensheviks into the role of eternal opposition. But this would all change when the Conservative Revolution reformed the electoral system, mandating a mix of FPTP and PR districts in all lower houses of the states. With the advent of proportional representation the Mensheviks finally came into power, aided greatly by the dissolution of the Alaskan National Union party into the Socialist Revolutionary and Constitutional Democratic parties. Finally in power for the first time since admission to the Union, the Menshevik began their own political revolution towards establishing a democratic socialist society. Calling a state constitutional convention in which their delegates overwhelming dominated, the state's senate was abolished and replaced by a system of workers' councils. Most major companies were nationalized and labor unions became constitutionally mandated in all workplaces with over 20 employees.

Of course the national government soon took notice of this mass appropriation of private property and the Supreme Court forced the Mensheviks to roll back most of their reforms. However the Alaskan government was allowed to purchase at a discounted rate half of the oil reserves it had previously nationalized, provided that they give a skim of the profits to several Republican donors. With the fall of Nixon and Agnew this skimming was soon halted, however with the Alaskan government having already purchased the oil reserves the Courts ruled that forcing them to hand them back was unlawful. With their upper house also getting the pass, so long as it could only veto with a two-thirds majority, the most important of the Menshevik had been solidified, ensuring the dominance of democratic socialism in the north star state.

Through the sale of oil the Menshevik began to amass a massive coffer of wealth which it used to seize more means of production and improve the infrastructure of the state. Developing the Anchorage airport as a sophisticated global trading hub the state's economy began to blossom even further. This lead to the development of even more infrastructure, most recently the laying of fiber optic cables across the Arctic Ocean, which has ironically transformed America's most socialist state into a hub for capitalist trade.

As a result, the populace of Alaska is now fully convinced of the benefits of democratic socialism, with right wing parties holding sway over a tiny minority of the voters. However, with a STV senate and several massive PR districts in the House, the party system of the state has become full of splitters, with every ideological dispute leading to the formation of a new party. And while the state's budget remains in the green, the continuing Second Great Depression has put a serious dent in its revenue and a wide variety of interest groups have intensified the struggle over their share of the pot.

Government:
Socialist Revolutionaries - The Socialist Revolutionary party, formed as a homage back to Alexander Kerensky himself started out a typical social democratic split from the National Union party. Nevertheless, over time the party became more and more leftist, seeking to chase right leaning Menshevik voters who were now too enamored with socialism to vote for a mere social democrat. As it currently stands, the SRs remain a party for rural citizens and small business owners who are too ashamed to admit that they are petty bourgeoisie. Due to its largely rural base, the party is naturally more socially conservative, often being reluctant to recognize the existence of transgender individuals, but would still be considered extremely socially liberal in the lower 56 for their firm support of gay marriage and atheism.
Mensheviks (Anchorage) - Currently the largest faction of the Mensheviks, they represent the more centralist side of the party. Despite agreeing with the Menshevik (Juneau) faction on almost all policy matters the differences of philosophy between the two has lead to a bitter rivalry. In general, the party advocates for the continued centralization of the means of production, despite the fact that government owned industries already consist of over 57% of the state's economy.
Ecological Native Alliance - Alaska's branch of the Green party, this branch is naturally more left wing than most its counterparts. However it still remains essentially a social democratic party, and wishes to slowly shrink the government sector back to more normal levels. It also wants to begin closing Alaskan oil wells to help improve the environment. The party's base remains Native Americans and Native Alaskans, particularly of the Athabaskan language family.
Mensheviks (Yupik) - The only ethnic based faction of the Menshevik party, they find their support among the Yupik natives of Western Alaska. While still believing in the merits of a socialist economy, they are considerably more socially conservative than the other Menshevik factions due to the Yupik's wide adherence to the Russian Orthodox Church, an oddity for a state which is 47% atheist. However, above all else the party remains committed to ensuring more subsidies to the Native of Western Alaska, and is thus willing to sacrifice their conservative views on abortion and gay marriage for a chance to participate in government.
Ecological Alliance - An eco-socialist party committed to the preservation of Alaska's natural beauty, they are surprisingly amiable and are often willing to put off their goal of shutting down Alaska's oil fields in return for an increase to the state park fund. The party's base remains entrenched in academia and the nursing industry, and always finds way to make increased teacher and nurse salaries sound good for the trees.
Black Panther Party - A black nationalist party that is considered left wing by most of the country, here in Alaska they are just another moderate socialist party. Given that their votes can be easily bought by just building another few statues in honor of Huey Newton or Malcom X this party always finds its way into the government cabinet.

Opposition:
Labor - The party of socially conservative workers, they are the most popular party among the military detachments which serve in Alaska. Specifically the city of Fairbanks remains an eternal Labor stronghold and a relatively socially conservative city, for a state where transgender conservation therapy is a considered fundamental right.
Mensheviks (Juneau) - The other major half of the Menshevik party, they went against the Anchorage-based majority to found their own Menshevik party based on decentralization. Popular in Southeastern Alaska as well as Fairbanks, its supporters have pretty much the ideology to that of the Anchorage chapter, yet continue to hate them for not allowing more co-operatives and local government owned businesses to flourish.
Constitutional Democrats - The only center right party in Alaska, they represent the bourgeoisie and unashamed petty bourgeoisie classes of the state. Still convinced that Alaska will one day return to capitalism their vote share has only just begun to approach the levels of support they had prior to the Second Great Depression.
Anarchist List - An explicitly abstentionist party, they refuse to support any sort of state and serve as a protest vote for anarchists of all creeds. The fact that they don't take their seats is often a crucial variable in government formation and helps prevent coalition having to include dozens of parties just to obtain a majority. While the number of anarchists present in Alaska may shock most Americans, even the vote for the Anarchist List is estimated to be only half of the true number of anarchists, since most anarchists believe that even the simple act of voting is too statist.
Socialist Liberartion - A broad tent party for syndicalists, libertarian socialists, and left communists they do not go as far as abstentionism but instead turn towards obstructionism, always voting no on every bill as a symbolic gesture of their firm resolve against the state.
Independents - A collection of minor localist parties, they exist only in the council, where the Single Transferable Voting system allows for independent candidates to flourish. Ranging politically from revolutionary communists to conservative politician who fear openly running as a right winger most of them are simple democratic socialists who focus on non-partisan issues and getting stuff done.
Parent-Child Organization - A clique for stay at home mothers, there very existence is due only to the council of Womens' Deputies, which was intended to help represent mothers trapped in the kitchen. While the idea had noble feminist intentions, the council soon became a breeding ground for conservatism, as these stay at home mothers refused to work when they could instead stay at home with their child all day. Even though the stipend for stay at home mothers has remained stagnant and forced many women back into the workforce, a dedicated minority of mothers still refuse to work, and continue to lobby for an increase in their stipend to the level of an average wage.
Socialist Youth League - The political arm of the Socialist Youth Club, which is the Alaskan equivalent to the Boy Scouts. The Socialist Youth Club was originally called the Menshevik Youth Club, however ever since the split of the Menshevik the Club has sought to stay politically moderate and forge its own ideological path. While the party does get some votes from older individuals which the SYC refers to as "youth allies" the party's leadership is entirely composed of people between the ages of 16 and 24. Since the overwhelming majority of students fit within this age range, the Socialist Youth League is a powerful force within the councils of local high schools and universities, though nowhere close the extent that the PCO is among "Women" councils.
65+ - A pensioner interest party, they are also remarkably socially conservative as many of them remember the days when the National Union still reigned and the Mensheviks were nothing more than the eternal minority. In particular, the pensioners constantly lobby for the "triple lock" on pensions to be increased to a quadruple lock, however such blatantly greedy calls have been ignored by all other parties.
Communist Party (3rd International) - A Marxist-Leninist party, they represent the interests of the 3rd International, which by extension are the interests of the USSR. They have banned several times for receiving large sums of rubles from questionable sources, but each time they just come back even more determined to preach the dogma of the Soviet Union.
Communist Party (4th International) - An association of Trotskyists, their main mission seems to be blind hatred of the Third International, constantly holding counter protests and harassing group meetings of the Marxist-Leninists. The party members also hates anarchists almost much and remain hated by most communist groups for their provocative antics.
Industrial Union Party - A DeLeonist party, they are surprisingly socially conservative, mostly due to the fact that their base consists of mostly old engineers and technicians who refuses to adapt to the future.
National Bolsheviks - While they claim to be a hard left Leninist party, they are in reality a hard right fascist party, which constantly preaches white supremacy and antisemitism. The party often gets into street brawls with the Black Panther Party, which has lead to their banning several times, however with the Second Great Depression only serving to radicalize many right wingers their membership has continued to grow.
Tolstoyans - The Tolstoyan party is an association of Christian anarchists who believe that God is only authority, not the state. Nevertheless, they remain a party of nonviolence and pacifism, with its more radical members going out into the Wild to practice anarcho-primitivism, though those individuals remain an ever decreasing minority as the harsh Alaskan winters take their toll on those who attempt to leave solely off the teachings of Christ.
Feminist Liberation - A party for radical feminists, they believe in the superiority of women over men and advocate for an increase of paid maternity leave from 78 weeks to 130 weeks, while at the same time slashing paternity leave from 26 weeks to zero. They are also shockingly transphobic, adamantly against the inclusion of conversion therapy as part of the state's universal healthcare plan and constantly lobbying for a "bathroom bill" to ensure that people only go into the restroom of their gender which was assigned at birth.
Communist Party (Councilist) - The Communist Party for council communists they party does not field candidates in the House as it believes any parliament in which non-proletarians can vote in are bourgeois. Instead they field candidates in the Workers' councils, and continue to advocate for the natural superiority of soviets over parliaments.
Men Rights Activists - The Men Rights Activist party is a right wing party which rallies against the "feminist socialists" which currently dominate Alaska. They view that a woman's natural place is in the house and also claim that abortion is genocide.
Alaskan Independence Party - A socialist party which advocates for the independence of Alaska as a truly socialist republic, they have only a small minority of supporters since the vast majority of residents realize how stupid it would be for Alaska to try to go sole with both the USSR and East Asian Prosperity Sphere hungrily eyeing Alaskan oil.
Communist Party (Posadist) - Originally founded as a satire party by death metal guitarist Screaming Lord Jack, after the onset of the Second Great Depression the party began to become filled with real Posadists, whose constant harassment lead Jack to commit suicide. Now the party's leadership is full of devoted Marxist-Leninist-Trotskyist-Guevarist-Posadists who have had repeated runs in with the law in their attempts to gain entry to nuclear missile silos.

Good God, that's simultaneously mind-blowingly incredible and gut-wrenchingly horrifying at the same time. A most certainly stellar and exemplary part of this great series.

Wow. Two green parties, three Menshevik parties, and FOUR communist parties... all you're missing is a Communist Party of Alaska that's in a perpetual feud with the Alaskan Communist Party...

I thought that was the point of the Communist Party (3rd Internationale) and the Communist Party (4th Internationale).
