Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkrieg

So, I noticed that Kaiserreich doesn't seem to have a thread for just discussing the game itself. There's a Hetalia thread and a Photos thread, but that's about it. I'm something of a noob to grand strategy and Kaiserreich specifically, but I really wanted to try Kaiserreich after spending some time playing Victoria II. So, I have two games currently running, both at 1937. In my first game, I started as the Americans. I tried to avert the Second American Civil War, that failed, so I played as Huey Long because Huey Long kicks ass and tried my best to keep the South alive.

I stopped that for a bit and moved onto a game as the Union of Britain, mostly so I could play as Mosley. Basically, I pushed for Maximist policies as much as possible, before eventually first electing Mosley to power, centralizing his position unconstitutionally to make him all-powerful, then holding a coup and killing those who opposed him. There are names for this, but it was mostly events and national focuses and they're slipping my mind. It was an interesting playthrough for the day, and I'm still in the beginning stages of that game. So that's fun, if really dark, but so are a lot of strategy games.

Anyway, so, what are your guys' experiences with the game? Any stories or comments on it?

There is a thread... kinda, it hasn't been posted in since February of this year, and the title specifies Kaiserreich for Darkest Hour. So there's definitely room for a both-base-games thread.

Weird, I thought I searched it and couldn't find anything. Anyway, so I think this works, then?

Hello *waves* I am one of the Devs for Kaiserreich mainly the US Countries, Canada, UoB, and UK. if you got questions, feel free to ask me. :)

Sure, what recent changes have been made in regards to AUS, the CSA, and UoB, and of the AUS and CSA, which are generally more likely to win in the current update? (1.08, I think?)

Sorry, I'm sort of a noob, so these might be dumb questions.

Also, it's so nice to see a dev so early in the thread, thank you for coming!

Kaiserreich best mod for both Darkest Hour and HoIIV. That takes skill. I am super curious how the big Italy retcon is going to play out in the next update

I'm excited for the Italy retcon and hope that the HOI IV KR team can finish the late-stage diplomacy tree for Germany. Also, I think that the CSA should be able to create its own faction or become head of the Internationale if the French fall.

I also think a CSA buff would be nice but then again I'm a dirty commie. An election mechanic for the CSA in Federalist or Autonomist path would also be great, since those are the democratic factions and they wouldn't just end elections. But hey, it's in alpha, I can understand things taking time.

I love playing CSA and just making this immense socialist 'Murica to be the ultimate defender of freedom and equality the world over. However, being able to get cores on Canada after finishing War Plan Red would be really nice. Having Chesty Puller as a commander for the USA and the victor in the 2ACW would be nice, too, with some kind of Marine-buffing trait.

So far, my favorite countries are Germany (obviously), the CSA, and Union of Britain. France is difficult but fun. Russia entirely depends on what you do with it, but so far I've loved turning it into the Soviet Union and just steamrolling everything FOR THE MOTHERLAND.

I'm just a player, but so far I've seen the CSA usually win. It has more industrial power so if it turtles up, takes New England quickly and grabs Washington but then just holds the borders, it'll be able to build lots of tanks and stuff, win by attrition.

I'm not quite sure what the Italy retcon is, but I could see the CSA ending up as the heir to the Internationale, that would make sense. I'm not sure if CSA needs a buff, to be honest, they seem pretty good as is, and elections would seem to make sense for Federalists. I've been trying to play UoB as the Maximists, which has been fun, and do you have any suggestions for winning as the USSR?

That would make sense, they kicked my Southern-fried AUS ass.

I don't I have about 100+ hours in Kaiserreich and in that time I have seen a non-CSA victory once ONCE and that was with me playing as Russia sending over 8 divisions of best troops to assist the Feds which ended up with me capitulating the PSA and AUS and slowly grinding down the CSA. The CSA almost always wins the civil war it doesn't need a buff

Holy shit, that would explain why the CSA overran the USA so easily in my AUS game.

Now I'm tempted to play the CSA, tbh...

Its easy just encircle US forces in Kentucky and Tennessee and crush them there and then rush to Denver with a few divisions while you leverage your industry and manpower to grind down the AUS. The US AI normally loses all their troops in the corridor area to D.C and then its basically just the CSA vs AUS guess who normally wins

Kaiserreich is very unscripted compared to vanilla--frex, Kruschev is supposed to take over Ukraine, but I've seen that all of ONCE--other times it's been nat-Pops or one case of Kruschev rebelling.

CSA is the industrial heartland of the US, their entire shtick is being able to outproduce the enemy despite starting with shitty troops.

Winning as the USSR--One war at a time, join the Internationale rather than starting your own faction, stay Syndicalist rather than going Totalist or Autonomist, and invest in medium tanks (T-34 is per OTL overpowered). You start out as the Russian Republic, so you're very weak, but if you can peacefully become the USSR you can easily crush the imperialists since now your political power will go way up and your stability will be higher, so you can just join the Internationale then cruise easily outwards.

1.8 is the current version for DH (which is about a year old now), 0.5.4 is the current version for HOI4.

Helps that part of the shtick is that there isn't really any canon for events after the start-date, beyond effective and early unavoidables like George V dying or Kerensky getting assassinated, just things that are more (ACW2) or less (Maximists take power and bungle it so badly an actually counter-revolutionary coup happens and restores the UK) likely to happen.

To be honest, I just tried this and failed miserably on the easiest difficulty. I failed as the AUS when I played them, and the CSA when I played them as well? Was a problem of mine that I immediately went on the offensive or something? It's mildly frustrating.

Send 2-3 divisions to take New England before the Canadians grab it, then use about 10 divisions as a spearhead to cut the Feds off in the West and hold the line, cut them off in the East from the sea with a slow march, keep 10-12 divisions minimum holding the line on the Western border, then march South with the rest of your divisions in a standard offensive front. Use the tactical planner on the army select bar for this.

Do you know where I could find a guide to the tactical planner, or is it really not that complicated? But, yeah, thank you, this is definitely helpful. Where should I get all of these divisions?

Shouldn't be that complicated; you start with like 40 divisions when the CSA forms, slightly more IIRC if you elect Reed. What you do is you select a bunch of divisions, form an army with them, put a general in command, and use the Draw Front Line and Draw Offensive Line tools to give them orders.

Try looking on YouTube for a tutorial. :)

I found a tutorial that was quite helpful, actually, it just didn't get into division planning, and thank you for the advice, I'll have to try it and see if I can do any better. Do I turtle up at all or just go hog wild offensive from the start?

Turtle up in the West until you have New England and have crushed the Federal forces between you and the AUS. Then swing down the East Coast, crush the America First scum, try to cut off Florida and encircle Atlanta before going in for the kill. Leave the AUS's western border for last. Once you've taken Atlanta (and you should be producing infantry divisions ALL this time, and about 10 tank divisions), send an army marching west, one down to Florida, and one to sweep through the AUS and across the southern USA.
