Despite its history as the only region to outright take up arms against the United States, the South was one of the later regions to experience regionalism. This sounds surprising to modern ears, but Southerners had a good reason at the time - even with Roosevelt's baby steps toward civil rights, the heart of the Democratic Party was the South, and that party held the reins of the government. It would take more than Huey Long for Dixie to leave the Democratic Party.
Still, any observer would have had premonitions of what was about to happen, even if they ignored the national situation. There were bubbles of independence, where the fact that Yankees and Republicans had burned Atlanta to the ground could no longer hold a one-party state in place, or where machine politics could seamlessly replace one party with another.
One of the latter places was Louisiana. Huey Long's homeland was shocked by his assassination, and when his seat was filled it would be by another American League member - his widow, Rose Long. When Huey was alive he had counseled against his brother succeeding him to the Governorship, saying that it would lead to challenges of nepotism. But in the special election to succeed him, Lieutenant Governor Earl Long won handily.
The 1938 Senate elections saw John H. Overton, a Long ally, win re-election. Meanwhile, anti-Longite Dudley LeBlanc lost handily to incumbent Governor James Noe. In short, the three most ostensibly important offices in Louisiana were held by allies of the late Huey Long.
The anti-Longist wave was coming.
On New Years' Eve, 1939, a group of anti-Long politicians led by New Orleans Mayor T. Semmes Walmsley (derided by Long as "Turkey Head") met at the home of Judge Harmon Caldwell Drew. What happened there would change the course of Louisiana history.

The Berbician presidential election of 2383 was held on 18 May 2383. A momentous occasion for the Republic of Berbicia, an ex-colony founded by ambitious Guyanese and Surinamese populists and scientists, it ended the era of Berbicia's control by the National Republican Party of Berbicia, which has went for an unbroken record of 75 years. Historically dominant in Berbician politics, the National Republicans began as a socially conservative, economically left political party that gradually shifted into a big-tent party.
However, with the beginning of the 2370s, everything began to change. The gradual "capitalization" of certain collective factories and the National Republicans shifting to the right alienated a large group of its Western voters, who formed the socialist, socially conservative Frontier League. The urbanization and the liberalization of the country led to the formation of numerous "liberal" parties such as Pasukan Kemajuan, Democratic Alternative and Liberal Party of Berbicia, but none of them truly could challenge the National Republicans. Finally, in 2377, an industrialist party, the Union for Patriotism and Industry, was founded in Witteslang.
The 2383 elections saw Joshua Barlay, a prominent labor leader and Governor of New Mahdia, step in as the candidate for UPI. Joshua Barlay was born in a family of second-generation immigrants from Sierra Leone in rural New Jateng and has historically worked in a steel mill while studying law. His opponent, Navin Harish, the governor of New Brunswijk, businessman and manager of the New Bell Telephone and Hologram Operating Company, a charming man who spoke fifty-cent words in support of the ruling National Republican Party and the old President Tirto Eko, was struck down by Joshua Barlay, who accused him of corruption and pointed out the suffering state of infrastructure in many regions of Berbicia, as well as the "cowardice" of the National Republicans when the Gagarians took West Guyana in the Second Crystal War and economically subjugated the rest of the Guianas. Meanwhile, the Frontier League's leader, Edwin Sen A Ting of Chung, ran his own presidential campaign appealing to conservatives and socialists in the western regions, taking away a large amount of the popular vote that could have went to the National Republicans.

How is man-made climate change in this world, and how is the Republic of Florida coping/planning to cope with it?

Thank you for the kind words! Climate change is happening in this world, albeit slower due to a combination of factors including public transportation (particularly streetcars) being far more popular, smoother transitions towards more green energy, atomic power is more popular, etc. Also, both Louisiana and Florida have more attention paid to issues with climate change and so have planned accordingly. Louisiana has a waterworks system to rival the Netherlands if not one up them and Florida, while more concentrated demographically in the north, has measures in place intended to keep people on dry land, stop waters as necessary, and take preventative measures against destruction of the ecosystem. Helps that there isn't really much natural fuel sources in Florida so they have long relied on either importing or, more recently, renewable energy like nuclear power.

This President, Benjamin Franklin Shaw, arms the United States maneuvers the US into a war with Japan in 1938, causing Japan's defeat in 1942, a few months before the Race invades and allowing time enough for the US to commence an invasion of half of Sicily, along with Sardinia, Corsica, and the Italian mainland.
Following the Invasion, the US seizes control of Japan, the Philippines, and the Dutch East Indies, and largely puppetizes the UK and Italy. He also founds the Anthropocratic Party, a majority party based on the ideals of human supremacy and Earth irredentism.
In 2023, a musical arrangement of Do not go gently into that good night is held in as high esteem as the Star Spangled Banner. The Seven Rings has replaced the 48 stars on the American flag. Nearly a billion and a half people worldwide openly salute the Rings and Stripes. The Young Humans' Alliance is a youth organization which enrolls nearly 200 million children, 70% of the children in the expanded United States, and 90% of children in the Expanded Territories (Europe and Insular East Asia). Membership in the Collegiate Humans League is mandatory for anyone attending a state University, and a majority of private ones nationwide. Membership in the Anthropocratic Party is an unspoken requirement for most civil service jobs. The Journal of Humanity is the world's second most-circulated paper, after the Race's Imperial Chronicle.
In Cohn vs. Tsseffelss, the Supreme Court ruled in 1957 that the term "person" in the constitution referred to humans only, as there were no aliens on Earth at the time of the ratification of the Constitution. All defectors from Race are classified as the chattel of the United States Government. Therefore, males and females of the Race are given rights and privileges in the United States in proportion to their usefulness and the awareness that the Fleetlord has of their plight (not to mention the Fleetlord's political capital at the time). Whenever relations with the Empire sour, males and females of the Race living in the US understand that their property and person may be at risk, as happpened during the Race-German War of 1965, when the US Marshall Service had to extract Shiplord Straha from Los Angeles lest he be caught up in the anti-alien lynch mob that killed 213 males and females of the Race.

While the whole Hawaii thing will be explained later if I ever finish this, the UP considering all citizens members is mainly symbolic. They mainly use it to seem like they've created "National Unity" or "United The Country" behind them, many don't care or resent their membership, for instance John McCain Jr before he was jailed. It doesn't stop the fact that Unity rigs most elections and arrests opponents, but the whole "Nationwide Membership" is just bullshit and propaganda.

The organization known as Al Qaeda, working for the theo-totalitarian Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan which formed after the withdrawal of the USSR from Afghanistan in 1989, was one such group. Sharing a fierce opposition to Communism, Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden forged an unlikely alliance with another such group, the An-Cap white supremacist militia known as the Posse Comitatus led by James Wickstrom. Together they concocted a plot to strike a blow in the heart of the Lesser Satan itself and send a message to all secular governments.
In the late morning of October 27th, 1999, several trucks laden with high explosive charges lit up in the basement beneath the North Tower of the World Trade Center, moments after several strategically positioned bombers strapped into suicide vests detonated themselves in the main lobby. It has been hypothesized that neither bin Laden nor Wickstrom actually expected the explosion to destroy the whole tower, and that the act may have been intended as purely symbolic. What they thought as the North Tower buckled, imploded, and collapsed will never be known, but the world looked on in awestruck horror as over ten thousand people were killed in ten seconds, followed by many more in the streets below as Lower Manhatten was filled with the dust of a skyscraper that was no more.
The event would define an era, end one cultural decade and begin another. A watershed lapse of the magnitude of Pearl Harbor. It would herald a decade of general east-west reconciliation and collaboration as a US-Soviet alliance would jointly invade Afghanistan, while the US accepted the election of a socialist government in the invasion's aftermath. A surge of cultural change would ripple through the world as religious fundamentalism and anti-social racism of all stripes would come under fierce attack and condemnation. The militia movement as an An-Cap organization was effectively over, though the age of fundamentalist movements had only just begun.
