Local pizza quality by US state. The redder the state, the more edible.

"Chicago Style" deep-dish "pizza" is excellent, if done well. It's just not pizza.

here's a WIP of an experimental map i've had in mind for a while but only just started working on. it's not for any larger project, i'm making it solely because i'm interested in seeing what the world could look like with these borders. i call it "Angular Borders", for reasons which should be obvious. i removed the rivers in Afro-Eurasia to make the borders easier to see (red is a placeholder--the final version will use Border Black and probably have classic UCS colors for applicable countries

That looks pretty... fair and square :p

That's like asking if I've ever swam in a dry river! There is no such thing as a thin crust pizza, Beedok!
More Dr. Oetker for me then. All that tasty cheese, and tomato sauce, and those wonderful toppings... Mmmmm....

(And I will be honest, deep dish looks pretty gross.)

Oh please. Not again. There is no escape from the pizza. The pizza is all!

Ian, can you make a Pizza discussion board? I think it would receive almost as much traffic as the non-pol chat. ;) obvious joke is obvious

Pizza is the Donald Trump of the map thread. At first everyone was amused by how much attention it was getting, then bewildered by its staying power and just when everyone thought it was finally done, it made an unexpected and frustrating resurgence.

Work in progress - Yellowstone erupts in 2020, ice age grips world, present day is 2121. Map is of the Kita Pact, so named for the Kita Sea, formerly the Sea of Japan or East Sea. The circles are capital cities, and overseas cities, and in the striped areas, frontier cities.

Kita Pact - known as Kita, the Kita, or KP,

State of Japan

Far East Republic

United Korea

Seven Provinces - (Manchuria, Hyang-Hai, Shandong, Yellow-Yalu, Tsushima, Hekojin, Taiwan)

Sovereign American - (State of Hawaii, District of Washington-Kaneda, Pacific Commonwealths, American Consulates, Cascades & California Trust, Salt Lake City)

Cascades & California Trust - American (Seattle, Portland, Obama City, Sacramento, San Luis Ospibo, Los Angeles, Catalina, Salton, Colorado City, La Paz), Japanese (San Francisco, Tijuana, California City),

Kingdom of Timor; Kingdom of Bali - Recent additions to the Kita, with substantially smaller populations than the founding members.

Siberian Territory, American Territory - Mostly uninhabited and uninhabitable, the Kita Pact has jurisdiction over parts of North America and Siberia. In Siberia, only Novokuznetsk and Irkutsk are developed as well as the top thirteen cities in North America. This is a result of climate as much as anything else, recovering territory that has been contaminated by the Eruption is easier than farming territory that is too cold and too dry all year.

Kita Quarters - Yellow-Yalu Metro, Shaghai, Nanking, Chengdu, Pearl Metroplex, New Saigon, Flores Metro, Muscat, Wellington, Mexico City - Sovereign outposts of the Kita Pact in foreign cities, populated by a mix of Kita citizens and locals.

Overseas Cities (Moluccas Straights) - Blossom (Malaku), Waterfall (New Guinea), Tranquility (Ambon), Majestic (Sulawesi), Dolphin (Sahul) - Each one is built on new land near a new natural harbor, with tight borders negotiated with local states later. They have a name in every language of the Kita Pact, each direct translations.

New China Federation - Egypt-like state along the Yangtze-Kiang, the west bank of the Yellow-Yalu, the Loess Plateau, and the Sichuan Province.

Luzon Republic

Free Chinese Republic of Sunda - On the southern bank of the Sunda River estuary, bordering Bali. The population is majority Chinese, most having moved here following the establishment of the Sunda Collective.

United Mexican States - One of the few places to have remained a functioning state through the Yellowstone Crisis, even if control was once limited to Mexico City and environs. The culture is heavily influenced by American refugees, though no distinct American population remains today; everyone is a little American.

Sunda Collective - Totalitarian despotism comprising most of the Sunda peninsula, main rival to Kita. Sunda has a total population of one point eight billion, half a billion Chinese, four hundred million Javan, two hundred million Thai, and seven hundred million members of ethnic groups smaller than forty million. There are numerous hold-outs on the coast and inside the borders of Sunda, many have been attacked, those that remain are in alliances with outside powers.

The Xia Clique rules a network of luzou (oases and fertile valleys) and hedao (seasonal rivers) across the Mongolia and North China desert, as well as part of the upper course of the Yellow River. They have been historically hostile to the Seven Provinces and the New China Federation, the result of attempts to annex them. Many consider them one of the New Warlords, albeit the most extensive and stable of them by far.

In New South China, there is a patchwork of city-states and warlords. In some places microclimates allow for more stable growing seasons, in others a semi-nomadic lifestyle is demanded even of farmers.

Great Zealand - Independent, first-world state, naval power, friendly to the Kita.

Base map for this? With the color?

Question about plate tectonics/worldbuilding, can two continents colliding create a sea like the Western Interior Seaway of OTL, or is ocean subduction the only way?

Why is western Ukraine flooded? It's above sea level.

It was apparently flooded during parts of the ice ages, though at certain points it was also lower than the global sea level. But, really, I liked how it looked on the map. So.... Bosphorus Dam!

edit: or rather, I liked the idea of a series of nations on the coast a new inland sea, recovering alongside the Mediterranean, engaged between Asia and Europe in trade, and so on

Anyone else also interested in creating migration-based maps? I've been trying to recreate this scenario for years now but haven't gotten around to it. If anyone else has anything similar to this I'd love to see it!
