Famously dubbed a 'possible threat to British integrity' by then presenter of NOW!TV Denis Thatcher in 2000, Michael Portillo's radical socialist views have gotten him into trouble with the members of his own union and his own party. He came to prominence in the 1980's, when he opposed the anti-union policies of prime minister William Rees-Mogg. He was even assaulted by police when attending a riot in Durham. He used his activism as a springboard to politics when he stood for Liverpool Scotland to replace the retiring John Lennon (or 'lenin' as some dubbed him). However, he grew to hate the action going on inside the walls of parliament, and he retired in 1994 to take up union activism.

1999 proved to be fruitful for his career as he gained recognition for his involvement in the Barnsley strike. The photo of him shaking Hilary Benn's hand was used to discredit him in his campaign to lead the ISTC. He won massively anyway, and moderated his politics slightly. His leadership led to favourable resolvements in strikes across the country, and he ended up on many enemy lists in the home office.

After he was nearly killed by a derailed train in 2009, he considered retiring to Liverpool, but soldiered on. As of now, he's been attempting to co-ordinate links with international trade unions like those in the USA.

Ah, cool.

How come "Artos the Bear" isn't including in his list of alternate names? IIRC, it's one of the older ones, is it not?

Well, the etymology of "Arthur" is a little unclear in all honesty; it could derive from "Artos" or it might not.

There is the Artognou Stone in Cornwall, but that means "bear-knower" and might or might not refer to Arthur himself.
