Operation Sealion

so like what would have happened if Operation Sealion had like succeeded and like the Germans had invaded Britain....:D would this win them the war.

Well maybe go halfway? Albion doesn't fall but the Germans still have a beach-head. This complicates things on both sides? For the Allies by making Britain an insecure location to plan the opening of the Western Front, for the Axis by being an endless pit to which they must continuously sacrifice men and resources without getting anywhere.

So the war drags on longer, but not from the Germans being any stronger, just from logistical complications on the part of the Allies?

See, Operation Sea Lion has one major flaw... Germany has no surface fleet to speak of.

Oh sure, the Lufwaffe couldn't even out that edge a little bit, but not enough to support an amphibious assault with the Royal Navy on the watch.

Germany would have to spend at least three years building up their navy to be even able to challenge the Royal Navy on a regional level. And any effort being put into the navy is effort not being put into the Wermacht or Lufwaffe.

So Hitler instead chose to try and bomb Britain into submission. Not a bad idea until he started getting ideas like the Blitz.

Would it really win them the war?

Assuming they some how manage to take the whole of the island, Churchill n co decamp to America and wait for the atomic bomb...

Unless they pulled all this off before the US enters...

Psh, you don't think Hitler would retaliate in kind if one of his cities was nuked and he held Britain?

How long before he started setting up camps on Britain? Or just using nerve gas like he did against large settlements of Jews?

Well the only time frame in which Seelowee is somewhat possible is before the US enters the war, yes.

And in 1941, British land defenses are much stronger, meaning 1940 is the best window. British leaders feared an invasion most immediately after the fall of France. Indeed, they were so unprepared for it in July 1940, that Im thinking that if the POD was that the British army failed to evacuate utterly at Dunkirk, a German invasion led mostly by paratroopers could have a decent chance of early success; supplying them somehow becoming of course the main issue.

But of course even suggesting this probably condemns me to some sort of cruel and unusual sentence, like ASB forum-only for a week.

Did someone talk of that we shall not speak??!
im surprised this thread has not been cut to pieces already.
If German had invaded Britain, they would still lose as long as Hitler still invaded the Soviet Union plus he would not have as many units to invade Russia with since there stuck in Britain.

This is what the Nazis need...
