WI Taiwan not assigned to China in 1943?

It was sort of dumped on Chiang's lap. Neither he nor Mao had claimed it before, they thought of Manchuria as the lost province.

So assuming it's not thought about before the Conference, what happens at the end of the war?

I doubt the Allies will want to leave it with Japan, and leave that country so large and close to the Philippines.

At the same time, I don't think they'd have a concept of an independent Taiwanese nation.

IIRC the Taiwanese were not so bitter about the Japanese, unlike Koreans.

However, I'm not sure they became anti-Chinese until they experienced Chinese misrule from 1945 to 1947. If allied propaganda was all they had to go on, they might have chosen China by plebiscite if one were thrown together in 1945.

Any ideas?

a joint, bilingual republic with the Ryukyus?
