The Reman People and the
Romulus Syndrome
A Report to the Gentlemen's
Club
Observations of the newly encountered world (B-0002) called Remus has once again shown the dangers involved in exploring the worlds accessible through the Lodge. It was clear from original contact that the Remans are not like the other Homo sapiens usually encountered in the parallel worlds. A testing of their DNA has shown the genetic differences between them and normal H. sapiens and a study of their ancient mythology supports the conclusion expressed in this paper.
Reverse transcription RNA, commonly known through our research of AIDS, is the process of RNA, a single genetic strand, duplicating itself into a portion of DNA. By this process the single strand of the AIDS virus is able to inject its own genetic code into an individual's cells, the reverse of the normal DNA into RNA pathway. The differences between Reman DNA and that of H. sapiens can be linked to a theoretical reverse transcription virus that was able to add its genetic code.
Mythology in Remus holds that the founders of the city of Rem were two brothers, Remus and Romulus. Raised by wolves, Remus and his decedents was said to have taken on some wolf traits such as being more muscular, slightly more hairy, and from a comparison of cultures a slight change to personality that makes them much more of a pack 'animal' than humans normally are, such as a decrease in brain activity in the area that urges skepticism when receiving orders from a superior.
It is possible, and the opinion of myself, that a virus on Remus was responsible for this travel of DNA, which has parallels in wolf DNA, into the DNA of a group of H. sapiens that were settling along the area of Rem, or Rome in our history. When this occurred is not known, but given the fact that about 45% of the Reman Empire is made up of individuals with this modification it must have occurred far back in history.
Already we have seen the dangers of similar viruses in this so called Romulus Syndrome, which was first identified in one of the unfortunate explorers to first make contact with the Reman world. Sufferers of this Syndrome do not experience the other effects of the Remans, the increased size and personality changes, but do have a sudden increase in hair growth across the body, even more so than that usually found in the Remans.
At this time only twelve individuals have suffered from this Syndrome, and quarantine measures appear to have stopped the spread farther. The Remans, who appear to have more common sense than those in charge of exploration in this world, have already implemented measures to stop the spread of the Syndrome out of their world. Similar measures should be adopted by our government and other Gentlemen's Club members to avoid a plague of Black Death proportions.
