WI after the frontier campaigns against the Plains Indians, the US Army had, instead of sending all Indians whether friendly or hostile to reservations, decided to retain all-Indian fighting units such as the Pawnee Bn, the Crow and Arikara scouts who served against the Sioux, and the black Seminoles and Apache scouts in the southwest ? Would the distinct identities and interests of specific tribes/nations have been benefitted by such units enabling them to demonstrate their martial prowess ?
